- In 15th century England, against the backdrop of the War of the Roses, three women, Elizabeth Woodville, Margaret Beaufort and Anne Neville, are caught up in the brutal battle for the throne. British writer Philippa Gregory chronicled their stories in her bestselling The Cousins' War series of historical novels, which is now the basis of a ten-part drama from Company Pictures.
The White Queen, starring Max Irons as the young King Edward IV, premiered on BBC One earlier this summer and is set to roll out in the U.S. on Starz in August, with Starz Worldwide Distribution representing the rights in most international markets.
World Screen caught up with Gregory and Irons to discuss the challenges and rewards of period drama, and the world's enduring fascination with British royalty.
"And he's every inch a prince, it's wonderful" - His reaction to that... THIS SMILE!!!! I swear: I am crying. My heart is just melting. After I saw many interviews with Max Irons I am sure, that he is a lovely and smart man (besides his beautifulness!) . I would die if I could meet him.

Max was incredibly good in this series. I wasn't so impressed by his performance in the Host (not that I really cared for any of Stephanie Meyers' lame stories), but he portrayed King Edward, a relatively uninteresting and straightforward monarch, with such depth and contemporary relevancy that I was very much moved by his performance. He's a worthy inheritor of the arts from his father the great Jeremy Irons!

I would LOVE for The White Queen to have a second season!
The first season helped me so much to be able to understand Edward IV's reign as well as Richard III's reign. This really helped with my A Level history work. Plus, Max is also very nice to look at when you are watching hour long episodes ;)

Charlotte Brokenbrow There is a second season coming this spring. But it features different actors.
Dane Mitch just watched the first episode. Some of the actors are the same...like one so far (Cecily, Edward's mother)...I don't get why they didn't cast the same actors for the roles. Oh well, the music is the same at least.

This show is riveting to me for I dunno know what reasons. Wherever I cut int, could always go directly to the end. The script, the line, all are tailor-made to relive a history. And the acting part, just EXCELLENT. Always forgot I am watching a show.
I love this show. I love the relationships, drama, historical accuracy, etc. Max was great.

'La reina blanca' es una excelente producción, lástima que 'Princesa blanca' no estuviese a su altura. El personaje del hermano 'George' es terriblemente malvado, pero fue brillantemente interpretado por David Oakes, quien también interpreta a otro príncipe aunque alemán: Ernest de Sajonia-Coburgo Gotha.

George was the only one of the brothers who loved truly his wife ! Yes, at first he was cruell but he died for her. Edward slept with many women and Richard at first was the good guy but he became another man and the power changed him. He diserved what he got !!
I suggest you actually research Richard III instead of buying into Shakespeare's fantasies and The Tudor propaganda machine.

What frustrates me is that one of the questions was in regards to why are time periods so popular now. I am a fan of them myself, but why if they are so popular why do they keep cancelling the time period tv shows. Just recently, this show was cancelled. There will be no season two with Elizabeth and Henry as they had planned. :-(
