Nuri Bilge Ceylan's Masterclass at Film Academy Vienna - Viyana Türk Filmleri Haftası 2019

- TR - Türkiye Cumhuriyeti Kültür ve Turizm Bakanlığı Sinema Genel Müdürlüğünün katkılarıyla Viyana Yunus Emre Enstitüsü tarafından düzenlenen “Viyana Türk Filmleri Haftası’ 2-8 Aralık 2019 tarihleri arasında gerçekleşti.
Viyana’nın tarihî Urania sinemasında düzenlenen ve Türk sinemasının ödüllü filmlerinin gösterildiği Türk filmleri haftasına, dünyaca ünlü yönetmen Nuri Bilge Ceylan senarist Akın Aksu’yla birlikte onur konuğu olarak katıldı.
Film haftası kapsamında ünlü yönetmen Viyana Film Akademisi Öğrencileriyle bir araya gelerek söyleşi düzenledi.

DE - Das Yunus Emre Institut Wien hat mit der Unterstützung der Generaldirektion für Kino des Kulturministeriums der Republik Türkei vom 2.-8. Dezember 2019 die „Türkischen Filmtage Wien“ organisiert. Die im historischen Urania Kino veranstalteten Filmtage präsentierte eine Woche lang preisgekrönte Werke des Türkischen Films. Als Ehrengast der Veranstaltung waren der international anerkannte Regisseur Nuri Bilge Ceylan gemeinsam mit dem Drehbuchautor Akın Aksu anwesend.
Der namhafte Regisseur ist im Rahmen der Filmtage mit den Studenten der Filmakademie Wien zusammengekommen und hat hier eine Masterclass veranstaltet.

EN - With the support of the General Directorate of Cinema of the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Turkey, the Yunus Emre Institute Vienna organized from 2nd to 8th December 2019 "Turkish Film Days Vienna". Held in the historic Urania cinema for a week the film days presented award-winning works of Turkish film. The internationally recognized director Nuri Bilge Ceylan and the screenwriter Akın Aksu were present as guests of honor at the event.

Aslında oturumda tam olarak Nuri Bilge'nin anlaşıldığını sanmıyorum. Sinemadan önce fotoğrafçılık yaptığından ve etkilendiği insanlardan dolayı sinemasının imgelerden oluştuğunu adam anlata anlata bir hal oldu bunun üzerine "ses" hakkında sorular devam etti. Nuri Bilge'nin sinemasında ses yerine imgeyi ön planda tutması bir sanatçı olarak onun tercihi. Oturumda da zaten izleyici için sanatını yapmadığını, kendisi için önemli olanın başkası için olmasa da olur diye düşündüğünü belirtti. Çok saçma geldi yani bana sorular. Nuri Bilge'nin de "Ses" mi ? "Görüntü" mü? ayrımının yapılmasını doğru bulmadığından eminim.
Yukarıda açıklamaya çalıştığım şey de aslında buydu. Adamı iskandinav yönetmenler gibi algılıyorlar. Aslında bu, Avrupalı'nın sinemada Türkiye'deki hangi özgün unsuru nasıl görmekten hoşlandığıyla ilgili. Bizim ne olduğumuz realizmiyle ilgili değil. Böylece, Nuri Bilge Ceylan filmleri, kendi fotografik ve sembolik görselliklerinden çok izole ve melankolik bir dünyada asık suratlarla gezen tiplerle hatırlanır oluyor. Oysa bunun Türk insanının günübirlik deneyimiyle neredeyse hiç alakası yok. I really wonder which is worse. Being misunderstood, or gaining success for being misunderstood.
Nuri Bilge Ceylan, made an artistic choice based on his experience and mastery. But in europe they classified him based on his cultural-authenticy. Such "authenticy" is almost surrealism in Turkish culture. Even in "darkness" and "loneliness" successfully presented in his movies, Turkish people are far away from being so serious, long faced, and melancholic in their daily routine. Nuri Ceylan is emphasizing a hidden or potential feature of life, which fits to his photographic aesthetical liking. Modern day Turks, even in far away God forgotten part of Anatolian steps, are speaking a lot, telling stupid jokes, laughing, and making lots of noise most part of the day. The infinite feeling of sorrow and melancholy is an exception in Turkey.
Thanks for the native input. It's interesting because I feel that not only there plentiful characters in his films that coincide with what you describe, mundane, simple-minded and unworried, but at the same time I feel that when Ceylan portrays loneliness and detachment, he is touching universal themes and feelings that are found across all cultures. Perhaps the mistake here is to take such character as the norm, as you intelligently remarked, which is naturally bound to fail as a faithful representation. Best just to take them instead as individuals mirroring emotions and moods, with which all sensible beings or troubled souls may resonate with. Cheers.

There is a lot of dostoevsky influence(also Tarkovsky) in his films .if u have read books of dostoevsky ,you can see that.Anyway nuri is one of my favourite director.He clearly knows how to subtly adopt a literature into cinema.
His two most favorite books are dostoevsky’s The Idiot and Demons
also, his movie "winter sleep" is partly based on anton checkov's short story. I have heard him saying in one of his interviews that he keeps going back to russian classics for inspiration. He is also an admirer of chinese film director, "Jia Zhangke" and his movies.

That'd be Ercan Kesal, the doctor in the obligatory service that inspired Ceylan into making this film. He makes his own movies now and also starred in a lot more works. He is a great writer as well.
Would someone know the name of the Turkish director Ceylan offers as breing some one he especially admires at around 49: 50 ?
