I had a weird Smash Mouth kick back in 2018 after finding a copy of Astro Lounge at a garage sale and absolutely loving it. I later ended up seeing them live not long afterward (during a brief stint in which cofounder Greg Camp rejoined) at a local fair and had a damn good time.

For me, it's just late 90s. I was like, 10 in 98 little young and wet behind the ears. I just remember living in Cleveland lot of summer barbecues with my friends. My sister play that cd alot I no longer see those friends anymore. But when I hear that song. I think about that time in my life that was simple.

All Star was the song of my childhood, me and my cousins used to watch Shrek all the time and we’d always sing along to it during the intro those were great times, I want to try to convince my cousins to watch it together again now

Without them the opening in Shrek wouldn't be so memorable. I have a voice acting background and I gotta say I used that song as a vocal warm up. The vocal training was really tough, sometimes without noticable results for months and months and I realized that changing and implementing different exercises can be really good. PS. You almost saw me as Leon in those new RE games :)

I'm 15 and I'm obssesed with the early 2000's rock scene. I came across a Scooby Doo episode where Smash Mouth was playing one of their songs. That was one of my introductions to rock and the early 2000's music. Since then I bought three Smash Mouth CD's and I loved their stuff from 1997 to 2003. The band was the most original of alternative rock of their time and Steve's voice and charisma really hits everyone no matter the age. It’s really sad to see him go so young and after losing a fucked up battle. So glad you saw them live. From Argentina I send my love to his family and friends. You've been an all star, Steve. Rest in peace

man this one hits deep, Shrek is still one of my favorite animated movies to this day and it's what got me into Smash Mouth like so many others. R.I.P to a legend, i just hope he knew that he wasn't alone and that he's found peace at last. crazy to think how we've lost so many of our biggest influences in the past 10 years alone.. showing how fragile life is is an understatement 💔

I didn't have a huge attachment to the band but i teared up too. Not just for the music but because he seemed so unhappy for so long. The death of his son, the anger over the Shrek memes, the public ridicule of him losing it on stage, and I'm sure there were other reasons. To see someone become so successful yet be so miserable they drink themselves to death is heartbreaking. RIP, Steve. 💙💙💙

I was only made aware of the news of his hospice care yesterday evening & it’s so devastating that this happened not even 24 hours later. Smash Mouth really were one of the voices of my childhood. Songs like All Star, Then The Morning Comes & Walkin on the Sun really piqued my early interest in music. It is tragic & difficult to accept another legend from what seems like such a short time ago no longer being with us.

Obviously besides being introduced to them cause of the first “Shrek” movie, I remember hearing Smash Mouth songs in other movies I watched as a child and my favorite song by them is “Hang On” from the live-action “Cat in the Hat” movie. That song is ridiculously underrated in my opinion and one of their best. RIP to Steve

What Smash Mouth was to me was simply My Childhood. I was 7 when Astro Lounge came out, it was something my Mom(Rest her soul) brother and me listened to on weekends going to the mall. We did it so often it became tradition as we grew older. It hit me like a truck to hear he passed. At least mom can listen to him sing in heaven. RIP Steve you were THE All star.

I get you. Even though I was never into pop-rock back then, Smash Mouth gives me that happy-summer-time vibes from what people now call the Y2K years. Steve Harwell is stapled to my early teenhood memories as a cultural icon of the times. His passing is sad to me because of all those memories that are connected to him, like a passing of the memories themselves. So to me, he represents more than a singer and more than himself, like he's part of the cultural zeitgeist of the late 90s to early 00s.

Smash Mouth had the hits, there’s no denying that. I enjoy plenty of songs by Smash Mouth and as fun as All Star still is, it’s a great time when it’s sung at karaoke. My favorite is Walkin’ on the Sun and their cover of Why Can’t We Be Friends and that’s to name a few. Thank you Smash Mouth for the music and for being around my early years of growing up in the 2000s

Most iconic song of the late 90s imo. They had a bunch of great hits, but All Star is THE song of the late 90s, of which there are tons of contenders. It's that good and that important. Shrek put that song on the map too.

    Man that's sad.
My most fond memory of Smash Mouth was obviously both All Star and their cover of I'm A Believer being on Shrek, but I did know Walkin' On The Sun and also Hang On prob for watching The Cat In The Hat as a kid.
I knew they weren't famous just off of Shrek, I mean by watching the All Star music vid you can already tell.
But yeah they were a really fun band that I always rescpected. They weren't cringy to look back on, the music held up and Steve was always on board with the resurgence of All Star. He never got oversaturated of it cause he embraced it. He knew he made a great song and was proud of it, which not lot a lot of people do once a song of yours gets memefied.
He will die a legend and he was trully an all star. He's now walkin on the sun all the way up in heaven, if he was a believer, and yes, we can be friends, we always could've. Sorry for the bad phuns, I tried to end on a good note but I got caught up in it.

I had the self titled Smash Mouth album when I was a kid and I remember seeing Shrek in theaters. It is so sad to see what was a part of my childhood die. First, one of my dogs that I had since late elementary school passes, then Paul Reubens (Pee Wee Herman) and now Steve Harwell. Tbh I’m having a great year, but the biggest downside of this year is seeing my childhood fade away. RIP Steve Harwell.

Rest in peace Steve Harwell. This band were a big part of my early teenage years, I remembered all the lyrics to All Star and would always annoy my family by singing it. Years later I sat down and gave Fush Yu Mang a listen and it was one of the finest experiences I've had listening to music before. Fun from front to back, truly a treat to listen to. This band may be made fun of or only enjoyed ironically, but I always loved their music with all of my heart. Also shoutout to Pacific Coast Party because that song makes me weirdly emotional every time I hear it and especially will be now.

I was lucky to see Smash Mouth with Steve perform before the first game of UCF's 2019 football season. I didn't care that much for football, but me and my stoner buddy Avery went just to see Smash Mouth. We got to be front row off to the side... & and then, for my first time, I moshed to a non-punk/metal song...their cover of "I'm A Believer". Steve cracked some jokes (& some more beers that the audience handed him). ..it was one of my most fun moments of my time in college. RIP STEVE 🙏🖤

Going beyond the obvious to talk about, "Walkin' On The Sun" is one of my favorite Summer songs of all-time. It embodies the feel-good spirit of Summer absolutely perfectly, and "Pacific Coast Party" is up there as well. Not to mention the band's appearance at the end of the 2001 film Rat Race and their song used on the TV show Alias...Smash Mouth has had a quite an impact on various points of both my childhood and my adulthood and their music coincides with memories for me. I was in Naperville Illinois flying a small plane for the first time, and I looked over and I saw a huge crowd gathering it look like a fair was going on. Little dots gathering. I told myself that when we landed, I was going to go and check whatever that was out because I was free the rest of the day. That was one of my favorite days of my life, because I just stumbled upon a carnival fair with a cool live band and next was to be headlined by Smash Mouth! I got to rock it out front row and relive my childhood. This was 2013. R.I.P.

Obviously I heard All Star because of Shrek and also Come On Come On because they cameoed on Kim Possible singing and it was in Big Fat Liar with Frankie Muniz and Amanda Bynes, but for me it’s their song Hang On from The Cat in the Hat that I grew up with and listened to the most. And even though the movie sucked, I still have a soft spot for that song and even re-listened to it after hearing the news and it actually hits even harder now. Smash Mouth was basically part of my childhood so hearing the news broke my heart. Sending prayers to his family and his band.

Just a minor correction... 1997 Smash Mouth burst onto the scene with their big hit "Walkin on the Sun" from their album "Fush Yu Mang"... it was 1999 when Astro Lounge came out and then "All-Star" was released, and was a hit even before it went into Shrek's soundtrack where it seems that is more where it's associated for its legacy. I have such fond memories of playing the game Disney’s Extreme Skate Adventure on the gamecube with my brother and neighbor as a kid, and the song Pacific Coast Party was one of the highlights of that game’s tracklist. That song never fails to cheer me up. Rest in peace Steve

The funny thing is I really like All Star in spite of not really being the biggest Shrek fan. That and Walking On the Sun are insanely catchy.

I didn't know smash mouth at all until Shrek of course I heard that song and I loved it never knew it was smash mouth but I hate to say I'm 21 now and just now getting to listening to them because I only heard all star and walking on the sun and I took forgranted how good this band actually is and now I'm listening to them and realizing what I missed out on rip Steve you will be missed🙏. P.s Artv your content is awesome and so glad to have subbed to you long ago and keeping up with awesome music news keep it up man:)
