  • “My aunt contracted polio. Our family was quarantined. It was an epidemic, no one knew what was causing it. People just didn’t wanna get too close.
Polio is viral and my aunt was totally paralyzed from the neck down. Even though she was in an iron lung she was still gorgeous and she raised money for the cause.
I was just a kid. So I went to rotary clubs, veterans groups, asking for money for eradicating polio. The Salk vaccine was later discovered, which was an amazing feat. Later in life, when I started doing community service, it all came forward again.
For the last 21 years what I do is advocate for resources. Putting a spotlight on important issues. Everyone needs to keep a level of engagement. When the community rolls up its shirt sleeves, there is nothing that can’t be accomplished.”

My friend Charlie had Polio.. 60 years ago I visited him at home when he was in that Iron lung. The idea was to make him smile and it worked.. I would help him walk with those braces on his legs at school and stop the bullies from laughing at him.. That worked too..
