  • Saint Patrick's day is this Sunday, and there are many ways to celebrate like Irish soda bread at breakfast or corned beef and cabbage for dinner. For those celebrating St. Patrick's Day with green beer, moderation is key. Alcohol has several negative effects on your body -- many of which can amount to a miserable morning after. Find out the science behind those brutal hangovers and alcohol's other effects on the body in our latest video, and maybe we can inspire some caution in your celebration this year.
Produced by the American Chemical Society, the world's largest scientific society.

2:44 that amyl isn't an alcohol, it's an ester.

while they drink or at all? because you're missing out. even though it may sound self-conceited, i'm pretty much completely honest and straight-forward about everything i ever say. unless of course i'm joking, but you know. prejudices won't get you anywhere!

Great video. I especially loved that it was the first alcohol caution vid that was not terribly gender biased. It showed that both men and women could drink to excess.

It means that you don't trust yourself. If you can't trust yourself by having a drink, why should I?

give it time, you guys who can drink & not get hungover, just wait a few years, I used to never get hungover but now,, its so brutally hideous I stay away from alcohol, , the "hangovers" became freaking unbearable, but I still had to bear them

Better yet, know about effective dose. In essence it's about 1.2oz. of pure alcohol for me. But the percentage in the drink works into it too. So beer at about 3% to 5% by volume, is better than wine at 9% to 15%, and hard liquor which can be upwards of 80%.

"They ask you about wine (any alcoholic drinks) and gambling. Say, "In them is great sin and [yet, some] benefit for people. But their sin is greater than their benefit." And they ask you what they should spend. Say, "The excess [beyond needs]." Thus Allah makes clear to you the verses [of revelation] that you might give thought." Quran (2:219)

No. Alcohol makes it worse. Trust me. I was a heavy drinker. And I have High Blood Pressure. It's getting better since I quit. No more excuses.

Don't trust a drinker. I was a heavy drinker...and I couldn't be counted on for much. The mood swings were horrible. The alcohol turns people into Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde.
