These were uber reliable, we had one as a shop car, but the one we had was a 1981. My neighbor bought it from his girlfriend's father (who hated him) for $300. It ran great, easy to drive and great on fuel. Yes, 1982 for a "C" for the 10th of the VIN #. Same length of VINs since 1981, and we still have 17 digit VINs today on 2020 model year vehicles. Look at that mileage and you'll know why the Japanese kicked our asses with small cars. An '82 small car from the Big 3 wouldn't have gone that long. No, I don't think that graphics setup is original. The 3TC is a 1.8L. If you look closely right next to where you saw 108 cubic inches, you'll see where it says "Engine Family". In that mix of letters and numbers, you'll find 1.8. That is 1.8L.
I had a 1980 Toyota Corolla - same color - same liftback. Got it in high school ('83) from my Aunt. No sunroof. You just can't believe how reliable it was...only problem was me...and Lord knows how ROUGH I was on her! Should be the 3T-C (same). Such memories. Yeah...thanks for the video...happen to show up...memories...thanks...
Awww...this makes me miss my '80 SR5 hatchback stick my sister sold to me for $100 and it ran like a champ for years! I had so much fun and I never babied it. Started every single time. When you popped the roof I remembered that handle thing! I appreciated this video, thanks!
My sis has an 81 Wagon Corolla her senior year (89') had it til the mid 90s when she got married for sure had over 200k miles. I wish I had told her to save it for me but I was 13yrs when she married, didn't know any better.
Believe it or not these things were all the rage back in the day where i come from. The money some people spent to customize them was obscene. I personally was not into them but still cool to see!
I love the old Toyotas, my father had a 78 Toyota Corolla, he bought it new and I had my first accident in it on the Long Island expressway, the car was never the same after that and I felt like crap ! I would love to get my hands on another 78 Corolla, it would sure bring back a lot of good memories, except the crash .....lol
The headliner in those Japanese cars were so much better than the U.S. cars in the 70s and 80s. The domestic cars should have come with a box of safety pins from the dealer. Because you were going to need them.
Whoa, a Corolla Liftback, them SR5 can be zippy, this video is def a classic from Japan, I need to subscribe to your "Special" section, for reals. My Sisters 1st car was this Corolla but in Wagon form. she had it for Senior H.S. year til 4 or 5 years later and she got married and sold it. Thanks for the upload, always looking for Buicks & Toyotas.
I love old school imports bro. And yes the vin number is long. Most cars have 17 numbers and letters ( mixed digits) I’ve got a 1997 Toyota Tercel. 324 k miles and still riding strong. Never ever let me down and I’ve owned her for 4 years. Looks decent runs fantastic. No leaks. Best of all... still has the factory installed cassette deck in her too. They don’t make cars like that no more. I’m driving my old school bucket with 300 k miles on her and I pass a 2017 Chevy surburban that’s on the side of the road stalled with his hood up. Ha ha. My Toyota eats new cars for breakfast buddy!!
Nice! I've got an 82 Corolla Dlx with less than 100k miles original. 3SPD auto. Great car. Only problem with it is the sunroof has cancerous rust in the panel.
Cool car I like almost all older cars for me it is the muscle type cars I find a bit boring I think because they are so common at car shows and as diecast I like the regular ones
I just subscribed. Some reason I thought I already did but notice I haven't. Kept getting your vids in suggestion. I never seen a 82 version of this that wasn't already body kit the works.
A friend of mine had a Toyota Celica not a corolla but his had a sun roof and sport wheels had a lot of fun with it till we rear ended a 77 3/4 ton Chevy 4x4 truck at 60 m.p.h
I have one restored and am looking to modernize the Instrument cluster. Can anyone please, help with which cars/models cluster I can replace it with. Thanks
This was about as nice as they came SR5 with aluminum wheels, AC and a factory sunroof. Sure you could have gotten an automatic but I think the 5speed was more fun.
Ive been pretty busy lately but I want to make it out there soon. That place he tons of old iron and I really need a full day and plenty of storage/batteries to get that much footage. But ctc is about 45 minutes from me
Nothing lasted in the rust belt too long back in the sixties and seventies. Maybe the American cars or stayed on the road longer but they sure didn't look pretty when they were rusting.

Cool little car but so many people use them as beater car right till the end. That's what I'm doing with a 98 olds intrigue saves my classic mopars from the NJ salt brigade.
@@ClassicRideSociety I still daily my 74 charger and my 76 charger spring till November but I put them away in winter and run my 87 ramcharger in winter but I treat the bottom of the chassis with a ton of fluid film and that works well. Nothing wrong with throwing an import in just to have a change
I’ll watch your videos regardless
P.s just ignore the Toyota badge and name lol
👍
Oh!, what a feeling, TOYOTA
O my my, haven't heard that slogan in years, lol. I also remember, I love what you do for me--- TOYOTA!.
Miss those old car ads.
Dam I had forgot about that slogan.
My 1st car was a 83 corolla. My family had two that went over 400,000 miles.

I don't doubt that a bit, and they still can go over 400K
Our first car! 1982 corolla SR5 HB blue on blue. 5 speed manual. Had it from 1986-1993
If it’s old, it’s gold. 245k !, take that Ford and Chevy. Thank you for the imports. It’s all good
Ok the car earned my respect as soon as you opened the door and it didnt have a stupid frame around the window. Cool car I say

The headliner in those Japanese cars were so much better than the U.S. cars in the 70s and 80s. The domestic cars should have come with a box of safety pins from the dealer. Because you were going to need them.

I didn’t know SR5 was even a thing back then. I like old school imports sometimes.
I know they had SR5s at least as far back as 77
I like some as well. Especially fastback models
Nice my dad has 93 Corolla over 100k and still going. He thinks it's going to die but it won't.
Chevy Land T.V I never seen a 90's without already 350,000 plus miles. And that was ten years ago.
