Absolutely fascinating follow up on the Archeologist's visit and his views of Auskerry. The story about the WWII pilot was wonderful, and especially that he and his family were able to return. Hamish your reporting style is so refreshing and you kept me captivated during the entire video. Thank you for taking us along!
Thanks Hamish. Such a beautiful place. My soul could use a few weeks of wandering around the island. Love that you now have a drone. It adds a new dimension to this adventure. Doing a superb job documenting previous and present life. I'm enjoying this more than you know.
Aw Marty thanks so much! The drone certainly makes it easier to show the scale and shape of things. I’d never seen the Gerson dyke from above like that before and therefore never really noticed it meets up with the chapel. It’s all so cool to think of the people who lived here before us. All the best to you 👍
Another fantastic video its so interesting to learn about the history of the island. Sorry to hear about your dad having to move away hope he is doing ok .thanks for sharing 🏴👍
I love your family. I love Auskerry. The sheep, the wool process, the sea, the history known and the archaic facts still to be uncovered. And a Canadian connection on top of all that! My father was a lieutenant in the Canadian Army during WW II. Cheers Hamish this one was a banger! Looking forward to Paul's return and future unraveling of some more history. Staggering to think of how many lives have lived there over such a great length of time.
Aw Sue this is such a kind comment! That’s amazing that your father fought too. We’re grateful for his service ☺️ I’m so glad you’ve enjoyed the video - and there’s more to come when I get round to editing them!! All the best to you
What an interesting video, and your drone shots really add to the understanding of the land layout. Nice job! Love from Pennsylvania, USA💕🌷🐻. Your mom looks great! So nice your dad could join by phone!
Thanks so much Betty! Aw it chokes me up hearing dad saying it’s nice to see it all on the video call. But mum and dad are doing great. Thanks for watching! ☺️
Such a wonderful surprise to see that for once UA-cam’s algorithm got it right by offering your video to me. Unwilling to think that lightning might strike the same place again, and not wanting to tempt fate, I have liked and subscribed! Thank you for this fascinating glimpse into many phases of history. On seeing the chapel I was reminded of an old Time Team episode done on Mull where a somewhat similar chapel ultimately had some burials nearby. It causes me to wonder if that might also be so for your chapel - Thanks again.
Ah welcome!! Thanks so much for your support. That’s really interesting about the Mull digging - I haven’t seen that episode but I wouldn’t be surprised if there are a lot of things under the ground here that we have no idea about. I’m surprised I’ve never found any human remains in the peat bogs that we dig for fuel but maybe one day! All the best to you and I hope you enjoy the other videos in the series ☺️
Interesting that you have a Girson dyke... is that the correct spelling... as there is a Girsonfield in Northumberland . Is it a personal name or does the word have a meaning. Your mum has such an infectious passion and I do hope the island will stay in the family for the future. 😊
If you'd like to support the creation of future videos, please consider buying me a coffee www.buymeacoffee.com/hamishauskerry ❤ Thank you
Having the drone up was a great idea, Hamish. It allowed views that you simply cannot see from the ground. Thank you!
Thanks Kathy! It’s been amazing to see a different perspective ☺️

Ah this is so good to read!! Thank you so much. I love telling stories and honestly what better place to tell them about. Thanks so much for watching!
It would make a great training ground for student archaeologists. So many eras in one small spot. Great Vid as usual.
Thank you!! There’s certainly a lot to explore! ☺️
I agree - Give Sheffield Uni a bell
It is neat to think how the island nourished all these peoples throughout time. thank you, kris
