I purchased an audio technica LP120 because of your videos. I purchased a pair of the Klipsch r-15pm because of your videos. and today, I purchased Bohren & Der Club of Gore sunset mission on vinyl. Because of this video. You are doing a fantastic job. Keep it up.
Yes, please! I've been wondering about this since all the newer music these days is recorded digitally. They still press records, but since the master recordings are digital aren't we still losing whatever magic true analog recording is supposed to give us?
In a way, yes but with proper digital recording in lossless formats with high sample rate and bit-depth I think most people wouldn't be able to tell the difference.
I was looking at technics on ebay the other day and there's currently a pair of special edition gold plated decks going for £10,000. I mean...what a steal.
Bohren & Der Club of Gore - Sunset Mission will be released in the US on vinyl via Amazon and is up for preorder! so you dont have to have it shipped from germany.. you can buy it local :D
Vinyl Eyezz, SACD is not entirely dead, although the material being released on it is very limited considering. Companies such as Mobile Fidelity and PS Audio are currently releasing both new and remastered SACD content.
Can you make a video about TMR's The Vault or other subscription based vinyl services? I'm considering to buy a subscription on The Vault and I'd like to know some of the options.
Glacier Records I recently just signed up for TMR's Vault after doing some research as a HUGE fan of Jack White, how could I not?? Also, I am a subscriber to other montly vinyl mail services including VNYL, Vinyl Me Please & Feedbands all of which are fantastic and unique in what they offer their subscribers. I highly reccommend, however would love to hear what Mr. "pizza for breakfast" thinks! :)
Jarrett, have you ever heard anything by Set Fire to Flames? They have two albums, both of which are very minimal and include many interesting room noises. Their second album Telegraphs in Negative was recorded in a barn in canada, and you can catch the sounds of doors creaking, footsteps, and some quiet talking all captured under some very interesting music.
PIAS stands for Play It Again Sam. They released a lot of industrial or electronic bands in the 80's throughout Europe (so they'd be imports for you and me). Bands included Meat Beat Manifesto and Front 242 just to name a few.
Fun video. Though I think the main reason SACD/DVD audio, etc failed is just that their supposed "higher resolution" produces no benefits discernible to human ears over 16-bit/44.1Khz CD quality, no matter what kind of high end speakers you have. Placebo effect may excite a few audiophiles but across the marketplace as a whole knew better.
you have no idea how frickin excited I am about Sunset Mission. It will look good next to sitting next to Parlour Trick. right on Jaret. you rock. thanks for the tip on Sunset Mission.
Sunset Mission is my new favorite album to listen to at night, right next to Royksopp's Late Night Tales. Thank you soo much for mentioning this album!
Talking of dust covers, any plans for a video about them? Whether to have them up or down or off completely? Yesterday, I got my new Rega Planar 3, yet I can definitely hear vibrations when the cover is down.
I hate to tell you this but they still make new SACDs. It's the only format I buy besides LPs. The low end player is $6500 from Esoteric and the high end from Esoteric for DAC/Transport is around $88,000 so 15K is not to bad of a price in there product line.
Jarrett when are you going to be making a video on your complete list of all-time fav records?? Beyond "Sunset Mission" I am curious to know what others would make the cut?!
How are you liking Sunset Mission on vinyl? I just ordered it myself after listening on UA-cam. I hear people are noticing some pressing flaws in the vinyl though. I'd like to hear your take on it.
Whoa, does anyone know the name of the cartridge on the Technics turntable at 7:39? Thing looks straight up Sci-fi, and if it sounds decent, would probably find it's way onto my wishlist...
I found a $10,000 unreleased version of a Kate Bush b-side (Lord of the Reedy River) that was supposed to have been destroyed but one of the people in the studio kept it and stored it in a safety deposit box for nearly 40 years LMAO. It even is scratched in some places where it was halfway to being destroyed lol
As for the speakers, I'm thinking JBL Everest DD6700's (about 36K on eBay). I've heard them play with a full TOTL McIntosh set up, and it was like having an eargasm. I could save enough to cover a good chunk of college tuition. But that's what makes horse races, I guess. Cheers.
Thank you for the band, I found it on Spotify. Its a bit like the horror music we play in the background when we play the call of Cthulhu table top games but this sounds more like jazz. Truly unique.
What would be purpose of buying reel to reel player nowadays - especially if you can go with cassettes? Could you actually get tape for it somewhere? Is this thing still some-what popular?
One time, I called some guy up about a reel to reel he said he had, he said "yea it was my dad's, don't know anything about it, maybe it's just garbage. I'll do some research on it" I go over the next morning expecting some rinky-dink webcor or Roberts machine... It was a Rt-909... it needed some service and a pinch roller but still. I wish he didn't do any research because he was wanting $800 for it, after he called it garbage.
Vinyl Eyezz, I never heard about Bohren & Der Club Of Gore before this video, now I am listening Sunset Mission on repeat :p. It gave me similar vibes to Ulver's Perdition City, so if you haven't checked that album I'm pretty sure you will like it. cheers!
I'd picked the two reel-to-reels side by side. Four reels are better than two. With my car, I like it more with four wheels than with two. It can't stand on two wheels.
A lot of people who bought B&O will tell you that they're not worth the money. Which basically is a fact for everything in this price range. At a certain point you pay ridiculously increased prices for unproportionally minimal - if even experiencable - increases in sound.
Why did the $3,500 Pioneer RT-909 not appear in the list of most expensive reel-to-reel players between the 3,600 Ampex Zeus and the $2,590 Technics 1500? What's wrong with the sorting algorithm of E-Bay?
So because my turntable trans rotor zet1, with a SME IV tone arm, and Grado cartridge is shit because it didn't come with a dust cover? If you want there are JBL, Vandersteen, only to name a couple of speaker brand the cost 60k+$...
Most people who buy those expensive audio gear usually never set it up properly nor do something about the room acoustics, they just buy it to show off
Hello Jarret just to let you know the not so well known format (Super Audio CD) SACD even though not popular in America is still alive and well in Japan. New titles are still being released. Thank you for the cool video.
Just got RT-909 for $900CAD, waiting to get it back from my service guy. Hey Jarrett, why didn`t you include power amps and pre amps or equalizers in this video?
anyone who spends that kind of money out of their minds cuz I used to be an installer and I can install home system for $11,000 that sounds like a Concert Hall so you don't need outrageously expensive equipment for good sound
+Tyler Wu if it's your first pair of Hifi headphones I'd go with the Audio Technica ATH-M50X's but if you like more bass, I'd go with the Meze 99 Classics.
So glad to see you recommend the Audio Technica ATH-M50X headphones. I bought a pair online last Friday (anxioiusly awaiting the mail delivery today). I like that they come with three cables too.
Laserdiscs look really cool, but the analog nearly-VHS quality is just not worth it. Love to have a CED Videodisc though those are a feat of engineering.
What, No Amplifiers? A pre-amp and two mono-blocks should ramp up the cost a bit. Cables. Don't forget the $1k Denon digital interconnect cable... and so on. Mains filters are supposed to be expensive audio gear too. :)
oh damn those reel to reels are affordable compared to the other shit yer showing here. Still out of mah reach but someday I'll make sure to have one that takes 10 inch reels. Selling my GX620 was already one of the biggest mistakes I made, the prices only went up and up!
~ 2 YEARS LATER: Interesting as always, but please please: mention THE YEAR OF MANUFACTURER FOR EQUIPMENT, OR THE RELEASE YEAR FOR ALL RECORDS. Thank you, Cheers, DAVEDJ ~
Should have searched for the most expensive Crosley.
A few hundred dollars. Checked.
7.99 (for the worth)
I purchased an audio technica LP120 because of your videos.
I purchased a pair of the Klipsch r-15pm because of your videos.
and today, I purchased Bohren & Der Club of Gore sunset mission on vinyl.
Because of this video.
You are doing a fantastic job. Keep it up.
hey !! yo !! leave his girlfriend out of this !
Impostah! *coughs in Italian*
hey jarrett, you could do a video explaining the differences between remaster, reissue, repress and bootleg please :)
i second this
Yes, please! I've been wondering about this since all the newer music these days is recorded digitally. They still press records, but since the master recordings are digital aren't we still losing whatever magic true analog recording is supposed to give us?

Lorvald
thanks dumbass
Great idea!
*At f.y.e looking at their records*
Mom: *points at crosley* Hey, i used to have a record player like that
Me: *Cries*
I was looking at technics on ebay the other day and there's currently a pair of special edition gold plated decks going for £10,000.
I mean...what a steal.
Hey Jarett, are you going to do a most expensive music stuff on Amazon video?
Bohren & Der Club of Gore - Sunset Mission will be released in the US on vinyl via Amazon and is up for preorder! so you dont have to have it shipped from germany.. you can buy it local :D
You hit the nail on the head when you said "why am I doing this" Sometimes it's just about doing a video that's different. This was fun to watch.
Video starts at 2:57
Many thanks for the Sunset Mission recommendation. Have just ordered it, and can't wait to hear it on my Linn Axis.
Vinyl Eyezz, SACD is not entirely dead, although the material being released on it is very limited considering. Companies such as Mobile Fidelity and PS Audio are currently releasing both new and remastered SACD content.

You are right again ducky ,thePioneer Rt 909 was a magnificently engineered machine!
The album you recommended at the beginning of the video is magical. Thanks for that!
Best channel this year.. so far Thanks !
I purchased Bohren und Der Club of Gore- Sunset Mission; because of you and also got 4 other people to buy it. Good stuff.

'Sunset Mission' is an amazing album! I just ordered a copy on CD. Thank you for the recommendation.
No problem! Glad you like them! Phenomenal album!

Would like to see cables and interconnects added to the list. Fun vid!
Oh, true! Some cables are out of this world expensive.
you have no idea how frickin excited I am about Sunset Mission. It will look good next to sitting next to Parlour Trick. right on Jaret. you rock. thanks for the tip on Sunset Mission.
Have you ever had annoying hum or buzzing in your system? If so a video on it would be pretty helpful for a lot of people.
Sunset Mission is my new favorite album to listen to at night, right next to Royksopp's Late Night Tales. Thank you soo much for mentioning this album!
I had no interest in vinyls until I got to this channel. I think it's your personality or attitude that sucked me into subscribing
Why no receivers?
I used to work at a Radio-Canada studio where we had 5 ''S7A MK2'' from Adam set in surround... These are worth about 50k$ each :)
Kanye has those B&O speakers in the Runaway movie!
Talking of dust covers, any plans for a video about them? Whether to have them up or down or off completely? Yesterday, I got my new Rega Planar 3, yet I can definitely hear vibrations when the cover is down.
Yoooo, Jarrett. That Bohren & Der Club of Gore is right up my alley. It's soooooo good. Definitely gonna pick up that Vinyl.
Wow! definitely gonna check Sunset Mission out! Nice video

Jeffrey Stohl 100kH is the X dimension that can only be heard on a great set of speakers.
I love you for adding. The pre order link!!! I've been waking a vinyl of that that isn't $200 bucks lol perfect thank you
This was fun to see i Had a Bang & Olufsen tv many years ago the best sound ever and i still have a Bang & Olufsen radio from 1962 in great condition
Personally, I'm waiting for those Nine Inch Nails reissues.
I'd like to hear your take on it.
my copy didn't have any pressing flaws, it sounds incredible, especially with headphones
Awesome. Saw your comment on the other video too. Thanks for taking care of your viewers. Earned a sub from me. Cheers.
Whoa, does anyone know the name of the cartridge on the Technics turntable at 7:39? Thing looks straight up Sci-fi, and if it sounds decent, would probably find it's way onto my wishlist...
mygetrichslowplan that looks either like an original ortofon Concord, or a late 80s to early 90s ortofon mc
This label is in use since around 1999, before that it was known as Play It Again Sam Records
Just found out you listen to bohren. Sunset mission was absolutely beautiful. So glad I found your channel :)
Doom jazz ;)
Great music suggestion, I'm enjoying the jazz very much.
I found a $10,000 unreleased version of a Kate Bush b-side (Lord of the Reedy River) that was supposed to have been destroyed but one of the people in the studio kept it and stored it in a safety deposit box for nearly 40 years LMAO. Sunset mission is a bugger to get hold in any format, cheers mr new i have just purchased it :)
hope they do a good job on the mastering
Im just getting into vinyl and I'm wondering what tracking force you suggest on a turn table (and great video)
Wondering what's your opinion on the Gramavox vertical turntable....
One time, I called some guy up about a reel to reel he said he had, he said
"yea it was my dad's, don't know anything about it, maybe it's just garbage. I'll do some research on it"

I wish he didn't do any research because he was wanting $800 for it, after he called it garbage.
Aw that's too bad! I wish he wouldn't have done that research online lol, you would've gotten a great price!
Yeah I know! But part of me would have felt bad for taking it from him for so cheap though Lol
0:54 Piás means alcoholic (person) in Hungarian :)
What are those headphones you are wearing? Look really good
Vinyl Eyezz, I never heard about Bohren & Der Club Of Gore before this video, now I am listening Sunset Mission on repeat :p. It gave me similar vibes to Ulver's Perdition City, so if you haven't checked that album I'm pretty sure you will like it. cheers!
“A fool and his money are soon parted” Dept………🤣🤣🤣
I'd picked the two reel-to-reels side by side. Four reels are better than two.

Pre ordered sunset mission cause i have a feeling once its out of stock it'll be crazy expensive
"This year 2016"... Man time really does fly.

Still trying to get a copy of NIN the Fragile on Ebay and that's cheap compared to what's come up in this video
So... how about an amp and possibly a tuner? :p
There's a complete vintage Fisher tube amp/preamp/tuner combo for only $5,299.99 + 350/shipping.
The "acoustic signature 'invictus" comes in at $165,000 AUD and thats without a tone arm or cartridge
Most people who buy those expensive audio gear usually never set it up properly nor do something about the room acoustics, they just buy it to show off
what about 8 tracks
Hello Jarret just to let you know the not so well known format (Super Audio CD) SACD even though not popular in America is still alive and well in Japan. New titles are still being released. Thank you for the cool video.
Where was the LuXman amplifier ? :D
I dont do vinyl but your voice is so nice
Do you know any good (reliable) places on the internet for buying vinyl; there are two specific vinyls I'm looking for
I'm trying to buy the club of gore record but the site don't reconize my zip code :|

hi, can I request a video about speaker impedance? Thanks!
Just got RT-909 for $900CAD, waiting to get it back from my service guy. Hey Jarrett, why didn`t you include power amps and pre amps or equalizers in this video?
pias in portuguese means "crappers"

You forgot to look into a very important part of the set up; some top quality cables. Very, very important.😉
How about headphones and headphone amps?
Can you review all the songs on A Rush of Blood to the Head - Coldplay? Please?
Laserdiscs look really cool, but the analog nearly-VHS quality is just not worth it. Love to have a CED Videodisc though those are a feat of engineering.
whats with amplifiers?
Hey man nice all your videos make one for minidisc's !!!!
Can anyone tell me how much an excellent condition Nakamichi Dragon is worth?
the most expensive vinyl I've seen on Amazon so far is Mount Eerie's Dawn. Starting at $295...What a deal
0:12 to intro- my life 😂
Hey, what about amps?
What, No Amplifiers? A pre-amp and two mono-blocks should ramp up the cost a bit. Cables. Don't forget the $1k Denon digital interconnect cable... and so on. Mains filters are supposed to be expensive audio gear too. :)

All you need is the most expensive Black Album original pressing by Prince to be played on the most expensive turn table.👌💜🥁🎸🎤🎹💜
"With boring legs" im crying
