- With all-time, six-to-eight-foot southern hemi bombs pouring through the Lower Trestles lineup and absolutely stellar, glassy, blue-bird conditions from start-to-finish, the performance of all of the WSL Final 5 surfers was inspired and elevated.
Countdown the top scoring waves featuring surfing from 2021 World Champs Gabriel Medina and Carissa Moore, as well as rivals Filipe Toledo and Conner Coffin.
For Medina, this is his third World Title and puts him amongst some very heavy company. He joins surfers such as Tom Curren, Andy Irons and Mick Fanning with three Titles. The only other surfers also in this club are Mark Richards, with four Titles, and Kelly Slater, who holds surfing's record with a remarkable 11 Titles.
For Moore, this marks her fifth World Title and a successful defense of her 2019 Title, effectively making this the first time in her already storied career that she's won back-to-back championships. It also caps off what may be one of the most successful seasons in the history of professional surfing which also saw her capture the first-ever Olympic gold medal for surfing.

The only airs I actually enjoy seeing tbh. Everyone else’s look so generic because they throw them desperately in a clutch, but Medina can actually fit them in unpredictable areas of a wave so that it’s actually innovative
I really enjoyed to see wave number 5. .Toledo shreds that thing.. What a display of awesome surfing. Is truly the epitome of surf. Speed, power and flow. 😎
I rooted for Toledo a lot, but I'm happy for Medina's trio that was (Deserved)! And a great response to Igarashi and his big tongue.

I wasn't too sure about this new world champ finals day format but there was some all day smoking surfing like I haven't seen on the WSl for a long while. Interesting, to me some of the most stylish waves were from Carissa Moore, it feels like the ladies get the style really right sometimes, classic timeless lines.
Yeah it was great to watch but id put it down to the waves rather than the format. It was absolutely firing
@@erob6823 the format does allow for a really wide open wait window and because there's so few heats to run they can hold all of them in world class conditions. I think that was one objective of the format, settle on the world champion in amazing waves and not slop.

I feel they need to revise the scoring. The waves are so randomly scored, they should just ask a simple question after 30mins “who surfed better?”

Idk man areal surfing is so Amazing to watch . We all know barrels are the nostalgic point grabbers especially at barrel type breaks . But the pure skill of pumping fat airs , flipping and spinning should be scored equally. There’s a lot of novices that can get barrels. No novice can do these acrobatic strength type maneuvers . I just hope as the sport modernizes the skill of the tricks follow
Yup, Im glad that airs are being rewarded because not everyone can do airs let alone do it when it counts in competition.

It’s all relative to the females. The chicks have more of a focus on turns and rail because airs are rare. When they’re done, they’re rewarded

High scores for fairly average waves
Carissa's surfing is so far ahead of any of the other girls, ill be amazed if anyone can beat her in the next 5 years... The rest of the girls surf like very average dudes... like me, actually. They all have that stinkbug stance and mechanical turns... looks awful
Carissas posture is what makes her look fluid and smooth and not a dainty female.

For what is supposed to be a high performance waive it seemed too slow and full. Little disappointed as I want to see a surfer destroy the fury of the ocean to win. Like the Olympics. I know the waves were crap but what you saw there was surfing at its most cutting edge best
