I laughed heartedly when I saw the title of your work this morning Donald. Congratulations for having a go. That turned out really well. I must say I could not believe how well it worked when I first tried it. I know there is an artist in Asia who draws exclusively with sticks he finds on his walks and he does beautiful work. After all a stick was almost certainly the first writing and drawing implement. Can’t wait for your next posting.
Thanks Sue. Well since it was your suggestion that I try this, if it all went wrong you were going to be getting the blame 😄 Having tried it now I can see why artists might use sticks as a legitimate tool, it seems you can make very expressive marks. That’s true, sticks would have been the first artistic tools. The only thing left for me to do now is start finger painting on the walls of caves 😅
That's so cool! I've heard about drawing with a stick but never gave it a try. Your sketch is a boat with no squint. You have really grasped the essence of drawing with these tools (quill and stick). Remarkable!
Thank you 😊 The stick thing is well worth a try, you could even just use the stick as it is without making a pointy tip. What I most like about these old fashioned tools is that you have no idea what the sketch will look like, it’s very different to using a normal pen. Cheers!
Hi Donald, I've not seen you here for a while. I hope you're okay. I look forward to seeing a post soon because I like your art! Carolyn (art for art's sake)
Hi Carolyn, thanks for your message. Nice to hear that. No I haven’t made any videos for a while, been so busy with other things and UA-cam does require a quite a time commitment. Hopefully I can pick it up again at some point. Hope your art is going well. Cheers, Donald.
After your success with the stick you will find that sketching with a bamboo dip pen a doddle. Very nice
Thanks Lesley, I will have to try it sometime.
