      Yes, but also the non-derby crabbing system allows owners to lock up high amounts of catch, they can then sell to others, thus creating another level looking to profit from the crab, sometimes without even fishing themselves.

The more drama, the larger the viewing audience. The larger the viewing audience, the more expensive the commercial airtime becomes. Anyone that claims they aren't in it for money is lying. My biggest question is, why do nearly all of the fishermen smoke? What's the connection? Funny how nearly all suspects/witnesses on police shows are smoking as well. Something to roundtable.

    I watched Deadliest Catch from about 2005 or 6 until the channel I was watching it on substituted another program 2015 or so, maybe longer. Naturally, I had my favorite boat captains like anybody else, I really liked Phil Harris and that may be why I don't care for Josh, he's nothing like his father. I've always liked Sig Hanson also, but wasn't happy seeing his daughter run the boat! But if the show comes back on, I'll watch it again because I really like all the other boat captains (I had to learn to like "Wild Bill" but like him now, and I think that overall, they are all a good group and for the most part, their deck hands work hard and are mostly good workers also. The Cornelia Marie and the Northwestern were favorite boats when I first started watching DC, but I was horrified to hear about the FV Destination but that was during the time I wasn't watching on a regular basis. (There is NO room for negligence on a FV and sadly, Destination paid the ultimate price.)
    When I'd see all that ice build up on the boat and watch them beating the ice off, I was glad I was home watching! Ice is heavier than one would think!
    Where they fish, along the Bering Strait, is really cold and hazardous fishing, but I guess they have to go where the crab is! I used to buy whole-cooks (Dungeness) all the time when I lived on the Coastside below San Francisco but the store where I live now in the mountains, never has fresh crab and I've never learned to like the canned kind.
    I wish all the boats and crew the very best for a good season this year!

    • @lux.illuminaughty
      @lux.illuminaughty 5 днів тому

      Not all minors are the same, in so many physical/experiential/social and legal ways that to list even a couple would turn this comment into a dissertation. A person turning 18 tomorrow inhabits a different community of minors than a baby born yesterday does. Yes, defined with broad and generic terms, both of those hypothetical people are minors. But there are worlds, galaxies, universes, and multi-verses of difference between them, and for all the minors in between as well.
      I'm not informed about Josh's case and I am in no way going to speculate about the specifics *(especially since those legal documents ought to be permanently sealed by the Court, to protect the rights of privacy of ALL involved minors),* but I just wanted to give one simple example of where to start on such a question.
      I hope you have a great week! Protect your rights and those of the people around you!

      @@johnl2998 Ever heard of an advanced directive? Well, in those lovely pieces of legal documentation, a person can set very specific circumstances in which family/kin ect are allowed or directed to "pull the plug". Some folks wish to only be kept on life support for a very short time as the risk of brain damage & other things shutting down, even if they regain a waking life....their bodies could be too far gone to live a dignifed exsistence after such trauma.
      Now, did that person have one? I have no idea. But I have known quite a few who have set very specific time limits and scenarios in which their final wish is to taken off life support. 24hrs isn't as unusual as you would think.
