Hey Sports Historians! What do you think about Fenway Park almost being replaced in the early 2000's, and do you think there'll ever be a time Fenway gets replaced? Let me know in the comments below!
Replacing Fenway Park would be like repainting the White House yellow. Ain't gonna happen. They might come to build a new stadium for the Red Sox, but they ain't demolishing the Fenway any time soon
@@tonyarceneaux286 In some cases yes, like the Hard Rock stadium in Miami. But I think in many cases, the stadiums are so old (like old Yankee stadium built in the 1920s) that it just makes more sense to knock it down and build a new one from scratch. Not that I agree with tearing down Yankee stadium but you get what I mean.
It’d be like the Cubs replacing Wrigley, the Dodgers replacing Dodger Stadium or the Pirates replacing PNC Park. It’d just be a bad idea. There might come a time when the Red Sox might need to replace it, but if they keep up maintenance and repairs, it should be there for a long time to come. You’d just hate to see it go the way of the Old Comiskey park, replaced with something with no special meaning at all. My uncle went to old Comiskey many times between 1970 and 1990, even though it was a 3 and a half hour drive away. He’s been to new Comiskey once, he hated it and decided to never go back.
I'm really looking forward to going to Fenway Park in September when I'll watch the Red Sox go up against the Rays. It'll be my first time that I've been to Boston, and I already know that Fenway will be the highlight of the trip. The place just exudes incredible history even from afar.
As a Red Sox fan Fenway is a gem of historical and architectural significance to sports culture in the city of Boston. From a Red Sox fan from Saskatchewan, Canada for 42 seasons.!
Wrigley has already met a fate worse than demolition. They put signage up in places that ruined what made it special. Granted, that would be hard to do at Fenway.
Fenway is beautiful. Seeing that green grass and the Green Monster for the first time, as a kid, was mesmerizing! The history you feel then and now, every time you enter the stadium, is awe inspiring and fascinating! The problem is, for regular attendees, that comfort isn’t good. The seats are small and many views are obstructed. Myself, brothers, and friends are all big guys and are literally squished against each other with no wiggle room whatsoever and no place for drinks, food, or anything else. I’ve been to several other arenas and stadiums and really enjoy the comforts of modern venues so much more. When news first hit about a possible new stadium, I was excited! I wanted a new Fenway with the exact same field features and dimensions but all the wonderful comforts new venues bring to the experience. I still feel the same way to this day however I do understand it will probably never happen and I definitely understand why with all the allure, beauty, & history Fenway has and the visitors it still attracts.
New York sports fan here... During the 1975 World Series, I fell in love with Fenway Park and its uniqueness. At first I thought that during the new ballpark craze, it was going to be replaced, but the Red Sox ownership did the best thing that was fortunately repeated in Chicago, in not tearing down the original park, but restoring it in such a way that most people wouldn't know. Kudos to the mastermind of renovations of Fenway Park and Wrigley Field, for keeping these true jewels of baseball architecture alive and well. Too bad they couldn't save the original Yankee Stadium and Tiger Stadium in the same way.
@@juancheto0177 obviamente... Pero como muchos que quieren tener juguetes nuevo, los dueños prefieren que le regalan un estadio nuevo que alreglar el viejo.
A recent trip to the US from the UK and visiting Fenway has me fascinated in the history of baseball and the Red Sox, thanks for the video. They should leave the stadium alone, it's truly iconic.

Wed, April 17, 2024. I finally made it to Fenway to see the Red Sox play Cleveland. I got a lot of funny looks wearing my Astros cap, BUT the Red Sox fans were great. Connor Wong is from Houston, he hit a home run and I wore my Ted Williams #9 jersey. Red Sox beat the Indians 2 - 0. Looking forward to returning to Boston soon.
Walk into any other stadium and then walk into Fenway, the nostalgia grips you and it’s beautiful. I might be biased being a local, but I’ve been to a lot of parks and they don’t measure up.
Absolutely. I've lived in different parts of the country and been to many parks and only Wrigley is in the same discussion. Maybe Camden or Dodger Stadium have some nice character in terms of comparing. All the new stadiums come off as gimmicky and similar.
I hate the Red Sox as I'm a Yankee fan, but I can't deny that I'd hate to see a brand new stadium built in its place. I was torn when the Yankees announced they were tearing down Yankee Stadium and building a new one. I literally grew up in old Yankee Stadium and it was beyond historical. But a new stadium WAS needed. So many great childhood memories there. And Fenway has that same hallowed ground status behind it.
The park as opened in 1912 doesn't really look anything like the park today. The outfield in particular was changed due to bleacher fires in 1926 and an overall blaze during renovations in 1934. The green monster as we know it today was not installed until those renovations were final on opening day 1934
They can continue to add more higher level seating 💺 around from left to right field and perhaps above the enclosed clubs and press sections above the Red Sox Park sign facing to diamond.
I think if the ever replace Fenway it should be used as the every year Allstar venture out of respect for its history. I hope it’s never replaced however no awa days the rebuild atadiums every 25 years ago. Fenway is a shrine to Baseball. Always will be.

Fenway is an iconic baseball stadium, with unbelievable history and great memories. Ok with that said…. It’s a dump and a horrible place to watch a game!! All the undersized uncomfortable seats point straight ahead. Which means past the bases your facing the outfield. Which also means you have to turn your head to watch the pitcher and batter. Look I get it , it’s historic, great. It’s also outdated uncomfortable and time to go. Which will never happen
