- So happy I got the chance to test out this amazing lens, it's was a dream come true to play with a full frame anamorphic lens, Sirui has done it again!

This is the first video on this lens that actually feels like an accurate representation of the kinds of images it can produce. Not just a bunch of dudes walking around in slo-mo, but seeing it in action. Cheers man, solid video!

One of the best and most inspiring videos here on this lens. Real life action shots. I will buy it over the enxt few days for my S1H and can't wait until shooting in open gate 6K.

Does FX6 got 3:2 open gate anamorphic mode (like Panasonic S1H) to fully utilize this 1.6 squeeze ratio?
Looks great! The sony fx6 is not supporting anamorphic to my knowledge, so how did you do it in post? (Final cut Pro?)

Hi there, I love this video, because the set up is how I worked years ago (before high end digital cameras) and also because your action shots are great! I have a question: what kind of monitor do you use in this set up - I m sure yours is able to desqueeze and to have some focus assist. Thanks in advance and have a great weekend :)

Footage looked great! One thing I don’t see anyone mentioning in any of these reviews is the lack of barrel distortion. Does everyone hate barrel distortion or something lol???

I think that there actually is barrel distortion, but you'd have to film open gate (3:2) giving you the 2.4:1 aspect. This video looks like it's been filmed in 16:9 aspect ratio, resulting in a much wider aspect, something like 2.8:1
@@ItsTryHardGamer that…. Actually makes a lot of sense. Regardless of whether or not they say “for 16:9 sensors” they do look best on 4:3, right?
Caleb Pyke mentioned in his review that the flares in final production lens will be a bit more muted than in this prototype

It's sad that Sirui doesn't have EF anamorphic lens for BMPCC6k Or 6K pro. They only have EF-M.

I think it's perfect, I did not crop the frame at all, this is what you get.

I’m debating the lens but I’m not sure if I’m about all that flaring
I didn’t have the final version of the lens, I heard that the final one has more controlled flaring
None of these reviews talk about the 1.6x squeeze with this sensor size and the output aspect ratio you get which would be nearly 3:1? So how do you frame for 2.39 if that's the case? Answers below if you have any; as I can't find any answers online!
Thank you for the piece. I know it’s hard to avoid it but it would really help when “reviewing” something to try to avoid superlatives like “amazing” “I’m blown away” or “awesome” as these mean absolutely nothing to the viewer or at least me, as these superlatives are pretty subjective adjectives without a frame if reference. If you used a comparison to a known benchmark then that is incredibly useful otherwise one persons amazing is another persons really good or someone else’s really amazing. You may be blown away with any anamorphic so it would be great to understand your experience of using different anamorphics and other lenses. To say it’s amazing the effect of a lens on the picture unfortunately makes you sound rather naive. Of course the lens is going to have a massive effect on the image. The obsession with depth of field and shallow focus is pretty ubiquitous so it should be no surprise. Moving from spherical to anamorphic is obviously very different. I appreciate your efforts but a simple comparison where you might have used a similar spherical lens on the same shot would have been a great way to set a bench mark and understand more clearly what it is that you think is “amazing”. Thanks so much for the post.

I got it from amazon, just search for 82 mm lens diopter
The cam is 1.3 squeeze factor at ff but the lens is 1.6 squeeze it looks a bit too oval for me

Haha, so true! This is the problem I’m facing right now.
Actually the 0.8m focus distance is not any better on really expensive lenses Sirui made that limit because you will loose the anamorphic squeeze look if its any closer.

It's quite wide, 50mm x 1.6 turns out to be around 31 mm wide .

I think I don't like the lens...I don't know why I feel like vintage spherical lenses give a more interesting look than this. 🤷♂️

what diopters did you use?
I had some polaroid diopters laying around but they are not 82 mm, so I had to hold them by hand in from of the lens
