In today's episode, Danny + Rich have a look at how to play a blues guitar solo - or even fake one! We use the term "fake" very loosely! It is more for people who are starting out on their blues guitar journey, or even for those who have been playing a while but want to make a more "informed" choice on their note choice whilst playing the blues.
We show you how to play a blues solo in this video, what positions to play in and when to play them over a blues guitar chord progression. This is just a guide, there are no rules! You can play whatever you want, over whatever you want! But.. if you are after a starting point, these can be some great tips to get you going and give you the framework to experiment in.

Great stuff! 👍
Thanks mate!
Kudos guys for doing this bare bones blues breakdown 🙏 very rarely do you see this done for beginners- normally some dude skips over the basics into 100 mph licks. Although i guess im more an intermediate player these days this would have been v useful back in the day
Hey Tim, thanks for the feedback, makes it all worth it! Hopefully it can get people on their way!
Could you guys do a lesson on soloing, using chord tones.
Hey Kari we can certainly do one on chord tones and soloing, we will add it to the list!
Hey guys, maybe a bit more on when/where to target bends, slides, etc. when mixing major and minor like this? Getting some melodic ideas out of blues soloing.
Thanks Bill! That'll be a good follow up to this one!
coincidentally I started with a new guitar teacher 2 weeks back and rather than focus on songs as my previous instructor did I asked them to focus on techniques, scales, theory etc for this year as I wanted to know why I'm making these sounds or using these notes etc. And we're doing the A minor scale and he did something similar to this where I basically faked solos and it was immediately apparent to me when I hit a wrong note that it was out of whack with what he was playing. A great way to learn and understand how it works. Long road ahead but plenty of time and a lot more patience than when I first took up guitar at 11. (46 now :) )
That's awesome Airblazer! Even though you've supported us for a long time I'm not sure we ever found out where you are based? A good teacher can accelerate things beyond belief even if it is just giving you the pathway to explore yourself!
The Lick Loft I’m just a stones throw away over here in Ireland 😀
I’m hoping to get over to the UK sometime in the new year guitar shopping while the kids goes to ThomasLand
@@Airblazer oh awesome not far at all! Anything in particular you are after? Or just wanna have a look?
The Lick Loft I’m leaning towards the Charvel San Dimas. I’m looking for that 80s metal sound ie Maiden , Def Leppard, Whitesnake etc.
I’m a leftie and the guitar shops over here are sadly lacking so want to check them out and feel what they are like.
Nice choice! Just gotta choose colour now!
I read the title. Click thumbs down based on that alone. Isn’t there enough fake, easy, no work involved, microwave guitar culture today?
Hey Les D, That's why we nestled the word "fake" in quotation marks ;) It is a starting block for anyone who wants to play a blues solo but by no means a complete solution - it takes years as we know to become a proficient guitarist - and even then we are all still learning :) Thanks for taking the time to comment!
Yeah, Les D, give it another watch. It's not fake, it's the real deal. 👍👍👍
