    I bought the solo for myself. I severely underestimated how hard it is to play with 6 mallets, I’ve bought books on how to master it but it gets really difficult to gain independence and dexterity with each mallet. What Therese is doing here is just mind-blowingly impressive.

      Hello! I saw you comment. I was just here checking out this piece. I was searching for solos for marimba that I could purchase and practice. I find myself seeking challenges lately. I have to ask, are you highschool age? Just wondering, because that's where i am, and I watched a video of yours, and your skill set was very good. If that's not a good question, may I ask how many years you have practiced? I also have to say I don't think books may be the best way to try that. I mean, information is information, but I have also never been good at music theory, aka the names and rules that come with music. I listen, and then project what I listen to. I also practice over and over again till I get a satisfactory result. I don't know if you would learn better from trying to project what you hear and see, or if the books do help. Just another way to think about it, I suppose. May we all improve ourselves further in pursuing our passions!

      Hey man. Nice to see that you’re looking for marimba solos to play, there’s just an awesome amount rep to immerse yourself in for the instrument. Yes, I’m in highschool, for reference I’m a sophomore. I started percussion when I was in kindergarten and did that for a few years. I took a break for a bit and got back into it in 8th grade with a new teacher her and I’ve been going hard at it ever since. The way I’m approaching developing my 6 mallet technique is through the resources put out there by Joe Porter (you may know home from his UA-cam channel.) he has a whole book outlining every detail of 6 mallet technique with pictures , with a ~90 minute video guide that I’m yet to check out. He also wrote another book which includes plenty of 6 mallet solos and technical exercises to go with the technique book. I’ve always taken to learning material by ear observing technique from videos I see of people playing. That’s just what I’ve been doing, but I still have a long way ahead of me to reach my full potential. I wish you all the best in exploring marimba and any other percussion endeavors you may have!

    • @filipecalixto6569
      @filipecalixto6569 6 років тому +1

      Adam Tan really? Cause, as a Burton player myself, that is some impressive six mallet technique... I've been trying to learn six mallet myself but since all my teachers think that 6 mallet is too much work none of them actually know how to play. And since there aren't a lot of Burton 6 mallet tutorials on UA-cam so I've been basically teaching myself which is pretty hard.

    Hey Adam, (unrelated question) what do grades in solos mean? I’m learning rotation ii and it says it’s a grade 4 or 5 solo but what does that even mean? And Therese is super good.

    • @AdamTanPercussion
      @AdamTanPercussion  6 років тому

      Ahhh the grade thing is really in proportion to whatever else they put it - it’s an arbitrary thing and I don’t think it’s a standard! That being said, Rotation II is definitely an intermediate level piece! And yes she is ahahaha

    What mallets were you using for the first and third movement? They must be pretty durable for that power of playing. The second movement seems to be 2 sets of Nancy Zeltsman's mallets.
