  • [HEADPHONES RECOMMENDED] There are songs that serve as markers; markers in time and history and space and emotion. Both secular songs and religious songs can do this. I can think back and recall a moment or feeling or place just from a simple reference of the marker.
Here are a few of my spiritual music markers that come to mind....
    - my Grandma's piano and living room as she played Rock of Ages
    - Sweet Hour of Prayer which was one of the first songs i ever played in church
    - David Crowders "Free" or God of Wonders" takes me to NYR in the Colorado mountains
    - Dave Barnes reminds me of singing with Lindsay for our wedding in Powell Gardens (today is our 12th anniversary)
    - 'Beautiful Things' takes me back to the hospital room as my boys were born...it was on our playlist.
Graves into Gardens is one of those songs. It always transports me to all of the baptism services we've gotten to help with at Healing House, as this is a tune that we've been doing there for a long time and it makes me think of all the broken and desperate lives getting a second chance (same for me). Love this bilingual version we did with an Andean flavor!
What are some of your favorite songs like this? secular or religious i'd love to hear them!!!!
