    thanks alot for the video... had issues in a new house, didn't think to look for splitters, found a huge mess under the house, cut out the unnecessary splitters and now have stable picture... yay

    So basically the 2 way splitters give out more power than the 4 way and the 8 way splitters correct???

    Dang. We have AT and T and one person basically told me he saw this issue. But for the most part our services have suffered from crap like phone fussy, pixelating TV, freezing TV, DVR freezing, Pay per view and premium channel freezing. Six techs outside and three inside have not touched the problem. My fault for using them in the first place.

    I'm looking into getting a coax-ethernet adapter. For the coax that would normally go out to the modem, can I put a coax splitter from the wall with one coax into the modem and one coax into the adapter? The modem will plug into a router via ethernet (yellow port) and the parallel adapter will plug into the same router via ethernet (other available port). I'd rather do this to prevent the adapter from being a single point of failure to my modem. The original setup has the wall coax to the adapter, and then from the adapter to the modem. I want to see if it is possible to configure my setup in parallel instead by using the splitter to connect my adapter to my modem and both to my ISP.
    In other words, can the two "out" ports at 50% communicate with each other?

    So I’m paying for Spectrum Internet cable. 400 mbps down and 20mbps upload. I’m actually getting 235 download and 12mbps upload. Walked downstairs to check things out. My cable from the Network box goes into my house thru a -3.5 dB grounded splitter. So 400x -3.5db is 178.8 mbps loss. If I disconnect my splitter and just use a junction RG6 grounding block I should gain my speed back, minus any line loss from the 100 foot cable loss

    A splitter is a power divider, yes 3db is half/double POWER as in watts. As we all know, with receivers, we are concerned with voltage or amplitude - that's why we use dbmv or decibels over one milivolt. In terms of voltage, it takes 6db to double/half the signal level, measured in volts or amplitude. Receivers measure signal stregnth in voltage or amplitude, not power. Power is more for transimitters - that is how much power in watts do we need to produce a certain voltage level at the rece

    ***** I have a 20dB cable signal and want to connect 6 devices. Would the Channel Master CM3418 8-way splitter/amplifier with +4dB per post be over kill or would the Antronix CMC2006V Passive 6-Way splitter with -9dB per post be a better choice?

    does a splitter lose that much if another wire is not plugged into the other
    what if you try to pass through one leg and take out of the other ignoring the input

    I'm using a coax splitter to connect a few powered rabbit ears to my TV converter box. It really helps improve reception having more than one rabbit ears working for you. However, I just noticed it's marked input and output. My rabbit ears are connected to the output connections and the line to my converter box is connected to the input so I got it going in reverse. The splitter device doesn't really work in one direction, does it?

      Actually there are 2 gerbals running a tread mill to power up an old Nasa computer inside your splitter!
      Just messing with you man, there's only 1 gerbil, There's no way Nasa could put 2 gerbils in there. Now, they tried, but it was too messy.

    Are splitter's reversible? Can the input be used as an output and the output used as an input? For example I have two different antennas, One is a plugged into an outlet with a Coaxial cable and a 75 mile range the other is an LG HD antenna with a 50 mile range, so if one goes in 50% and the other goes in 50% does it come out 100% . . . ? they are aimed in different directions.

    • @Wardell43
      @Wardell43 5 років тому

      Theoretically yes, they can be.
      However I'm more concerned about your splitter. If the Frequency range is 5- 900 or 5- 1004, toss it in the trash and buy a 5- 2.3Ghz. Also buy Blue coded cables and connectors from your antenna to the tv, no cheap crap or red crap unless you want a crappy picture.
      Back in the 70's and 80's I ran 2 antenna and it worked fine, but know the digital stuff seems to cut out signals when I add another antenna.
      I run 5 tvs and changed out my whole harness and get a great crisp picture on every set(1 set id a 15 year old 32" old school Tube type with a converter box that gets roughly 36 channels.

    Query: ...I have a 4-way splitter, and a signal strength of 3db.....if I don't 'plug-in' 2, 3, or 4 tv's, and use just 1 leg; isn't that one leg still giving out 100-ish % of signal strength?....sharing resistance loads equally results in power loss by a factor of .5, right?.....but, NOT sharing load (only one tv is plugged in; other leads unplugged), shouldn't that 1 tv get the full share? I ran four hi quality leads during home-build this last summer, into the attic, industry-quality lines, connections, splitter.....quadra-shield outdoor run of 50 ft.....checked every line w/ that clever Klein Explorer-2...idiot proof, easy to use, n' all connections are sweet....plugged everything up; could not get a signal to the lone tv....but, get my usual OTA channels when I plug lone tv back into antenna alone?.....frustrating, climbing up n' down damn attic, re-checking everything for signal strength, blabla....should I get an amplified 4-way?...do they actually work?....we're fringe, here, in E Tx ...got any help?

    if i use a 2 way splitter from my main cable that is connected to my internet modem and split it so i can have one cable to the modem and one to my tv so i can watch cable tv, my question is would i loose a lot of signal? and would it even work smoothly?? i read some say yes some say i should use a Db amp to boost, or i can just get a Db gain splitter?

    • @Papa_Izzy
      @Papa_Izzy 9 років тому

      Any split is going to cause attenuation. Your biggest issue is the distance at which the jumpers are coming off the splitter. If its a few feet its not an issue. if you trying to go from room to room then that will cause an issue.

    Buy 5 - 2.3 Ghz and only buy Blue coded RG6 double shield cables and connectors and keep the cable lengths concise(don't use a 100' cable when a 25' will do) Your connectors should have the Blue plastic insert. Get rid of any RED coded or unmarked cables and connectors.
    Cheap inferior cable will give you a cheap inferior signal
    I'm running 5 tvs of my Channel Master extreme with an RCA preamp and a LTE filter and I get a crisp picture on every set. My channel Master is 20 off the ground and about 7 foot over my roof.
    I'm in the country surrounded by trees and about 39 miles from the local towers. Currently 36 stations, If I turn it either way I can pick up Raleigh or Myrtle Beach.
    All I need is a Tower and a rotor. I was 30 foot high but Hurricane Flo readjusted my pole to look more like a pretzel.

    Hello Ron, I am looking to split my sat. signal to 8 to cover all of the TV's in the house.I am using RG-6 cable and looking to see what splitter to use for 8 channels and will I need an amplifier? I am sure I will need an amplifier to cover 8 TV's. thanks Don

    a two way looses 3.5 a four way is 7 and 8 way is 10. by connecting a two way and two 4 ways turing that into an 8 way is not that smart unless u have no cable boxes and or internet other wise depending ur location off the tap ur reverse would be to high killing ur two way from working and that would cause ur channels to say temporarily unavailable and ur internet to run slow if at all. now this guys is right for the most part if it was still 1997.

  • @kevinweber2936
    @kevinweber2936 7 років тому +5

    this guy doesn't know what he's talking about.. I'm a sr. Tech with spectrum. you lose 3.5 db on a 2 way splitter, which is not near half of your signal. An average signal in the nid is around 17dbmv. just an example. garbage video..

    • @Stonez1512
      @Stonez1512 7 років тому +7

      Kevin Weber I'm a technician too and even though he didn't mention the 3.5 db loss on two way splitters doesn't mean he doesn't know what he's taking about. If your home run has 8db and you add a two way splitter you'll end up having 4.5 db coming off those two ports, which is the same as loosing 50% of the initial signal.

    • @JeramieCurtice

      Also, db may not mean dbmv. He is likely deferring to dbi for the explanation.

    • @BelgianGurista
      @BelgianGurista 6 років тому +3

      It's simplified.. It's correct enough in my books. There's so much to high frequency coax signals you can't explain it in 10 minutes.. Signal to noise ratio, bit error rate, tilt, QAM, micro reflections, higher freqs impeding more, etc etc...

    Can I run rg11 the same distance (100 feet with) as rg6 for a better or faster connection? Or would the signal be too strong needing attenuation?
