I’ve loved your brutalist series! Thanks for taking us with you on the adventure. You have given me a few ideas to try out here in Cincinnati with our river and rail history.
Love the vibe of this video. From the soundtrack, to the behind the scenes insights, and of course to the photos. It's always interesting to see how 2 photographers can get such wildly different compositions of the same place, but also go for very similar ones (like looking up at 11:30). Also cool to see you playing with vertical panoramas again. Lovely video.

Karin, your work & videos get better and more refined. Shooting modern buildings w their stark lines and angles takes patience so it tells a story or conveys a mood. You nailed it here, even if the cap was still on your Leica rangefinder. Well done 👏
I love those pictures, hopefully I'll get the chance to see those buildings myself sometime. Personally, I think the contrast between the inviting feeling of the good weather and the nature around the bunker with the threatening mood of the building itself worked quite well. In a way it represents the paradoxical nature of brutalist architecture. One would think that buildings are supposed to be inviting and hopefully pretty or at least practical but brutalist architecture goes in the opposite direction. So yeah, I think it fits because the images are as paradoxical as the building itself.
I've been really interested in Brutalist architecture lately. I love the shots here! The UA-cam algorithm does a fantastic job sometimes. Your "Beer can pinhole camera" video popped up in my recommendations today and it was great. Then I saw Brutalist videos on your page and had to watch them immediately... and subscribe.

I’ve made all those bingo mistakes through my 55 years of photography. A few others are opening the back of a 35mm camera before rewinding, not having a spare battery when my electronic shutter based cameras would not fire, and also pouring in the fixer instead of the developer when developing a roll. Another is setting the ISO incorrectly or forgetting to set it on the cameras with meters.
Oh yes, all of these also deserve to be on the list! Luckily I did not have that happen to me with the developer and fixer swap, but other than that I probably had all of the other happen to me. Thanks for your comment :)
Amazing video! Your voice is so calming! Love the xpan shots. I have done the same with a Canonet. But instead of rewinding the film, I stupidly just opened the camera with the film in place basically ruining the roll. Other fail is using a point and shoot camera and having the strap appear in frame when composing vertical but not appearing in the viewfinder!
Went there a couple of weeks ago with one of my 10 euro 90s SLRs and a roll of APX 400. This building, like it or not, is one of a kind. In my opinion, it should be a listed monument.
Two of my favorite subjects, Architecture & Photography. Save the bunker. Let ivy grow all over it, top to bottom. It would transform it. I spotted a lens cap when you where making faces close-up, and you confirmed it. Lima, Peru where I am at has its share of State Brutalist buildings, thousands of cubic meters of beautiful poured in place concrete. More concrete images please.
Great video! was excited for this since the last one inspired me to start reseraching brutalist architechtuer in my city! surprisingly, there's quite a bit (city is Ottawa, Canada), but I feel like it didn't register to me as cool or interesting or even brutalist before since I'm so used to seeing all those structures! can't wait to get a chance to photograph some of them, maybe in the winter when theres snow on the ground! Also loved the old parking lot segment! the photos of that car with the flowers near the mirror were amazing, I would have also done a classic film photographer mirror selfie haha!
Sometimes we don't pay attention to what is around is daily - but sometimes it needs a little push to get noticed by us :) Glad that this video series helped you look out more consciously for brutalist building in your area, have fun taking photos of them! And yes, I was in fact tempted to do the mirror selfie as well haha

The Maüs-Bunker would really make a fantastic backdrop for a sci-fi movie. Things with a vibe like that are super rare. For the lens cap, have you thought of attaching a red "Remove Before Flight" ribbon to it? That would make prevention so much easier 😁 As for the photo-bingo, you forgot leaving home with dead batteries in the camera and no spares in the bag.
100%! I know there is a documentary ("Battleship Berlin") about the bunker, but I am actually surprised that is does not seem to be used more often as a film location. Yes, leaving batteries at come is the worst - luckily mechanical cameras make up for that!

Thanks for your comment! I love Soviet Constructivism and the impact it had on the art world, focusing on the industrialisation, machinery and the reduction of the human element. I feel like brutalism is also somewhat in line with this.
Went out with a 4x5 camera and 6 dark slides and only found out when I got home that they were all empty! Great video as always. If you want to see some brutalist images from England look up the work of Martin Dust.
I have some more Bingo Tipps: 1. Shooting a Roll of film which was not fiddled correctly into the transport spool. 2. shooting a roll of film with light meter and forget to change the iso in the fist place. 3. open the back and forget that a film was loaded. I‘ve checked all three and with my new zenza Bronica I will work on mistakes with the dark slide. That’s for sure. 😅 Nice video and cool brutalist shots. 😁👍
More bingo fields: 4. Using the same film twice. Happens if you don't wind back the film entirely into the roll when finished. 5. Using a film that was used to test the mechanics of old cameras or used to practice rolling film onto the development spool. Of course none of these happened to me...
I know the lens cap issue happened on the XPAN, but with my Leica MP, the light meter arrows will flash if the lens cap is on. Is it the same with your M6?
Thx for this cool video! I made a funny photo fail a few weeks ago when I shot with my Holga 120N. By mistake I took most of the pics in "B"-mode which caused some blurring. But I love the results and shot my next roll in B again. - Mistakes most often bring you forward.
I did something years ago to prevent me from ever forgetting to remove the lens cap and it has worked flawlessly ever since. Install a UV filter and lens hood and throw away your lens cap. It's that easy, you'll never shoot another blank roll in your rangefinder ever again!
I would add "forgetting to change the ISO settings when changing rolls" to your film photographers' fails bingo. Can be fixed by pushing/pulling during development but still frustrating if it wasn't done on purpose.
You’ve probably already photographed it, but the flak tower at Humboldthain is a great bit of concrete - and Berliner Unterwelten do a great tour inside it
I haven't actually, thanks for the tip! I usually stay with friends that live close to Humboldthain, so on my next trip to Berlin I will definitely check it out :)
I haven't noticed compositions being not in line with the video footage. But your pants at 3:37 are not in line with the rest. 😂 Regarding mistakes, my most popular ones are mentioned here: trying to shoot with a dark slide (RB67) and shooting with the lenscap. I do that with my GW690 quite often, but until now I discover it right after the shot. I don't have it with my GSW680 III, because the built-in lens hood covers the aperture and shutter speed ring. In order to change you have to pop it up, which only of possible when you take off the lens cap. That's one advantage of the III vs I, if you ever might consider a Fuji GW/GSW range finder🙂 Other mistakes I made, only once fortunately: in a MF camera with a cassette like the M645 or RB67: loading film in the wrong way, so you are exposing backing paper. My very first roll of film ever that I shot in 2009, was with the M645j. Loaded wrong so I got 15 black prints back 😂 Fast forward to 2021, I explored Köln with my C330. Advancing the film felt weird. After the 12 shots were done I found out there was no film at all in the camera 😅 So now I always take the paper from the memo holder when the camera is empty. Fortunately it was just a stupid mistake you made, when I read the description I was afraid your Xpan was about to die. Great places you found in Berlin. I now really want to go to the Plattenbau thing and the Mäusenbunker.

For your Rolleiflex TLR bingo; loading an exposed roll back into the camera, the auto counter will engage properly and give one a set of upside down double exposed negatives.
My bingo mistake that I must admit I've done too many times is to shoot a high speed or pushed film, then shot a fast film afterwards and not changed the ISO on the camera, leading to under exposed images.
concerning the film mistakes... a lifetime ago, when i was still shooting on filml i was on an assignment with my two olympus om cameras. there was a lot of action happening in a short amount of time and things got hectic. i had to change film roll in mid action, and was constantly running to follow the people i had to photograph. so i rewound while running, then i had to focus on climbing over some kind of obstacle and when i refocussed on my cameras i opened the back of the one that wasn't wound back.
When things get hectic and you handle several cameras at the same time, it can be really hard to keep track. Hope you closed the camera quickly again to at least be able to safe a couple of the images?
@@KarinMajoka some of them, but even so i slammed the back shut imidiately, there was a lot of dammage. But in our modsrn digital days i have also managed to erase ta card i had not downloaded the pictures yet. So nothing much changed. I used to develop bw film myself, but quit film completely when i did the moove to digital, even so i still have some of my old cameras. Nice to follow your film adventures.
About the film-photography fails: Leaving the lens cap on is a classic... I recently hat 5 black frames on 36 with a Yashica MG-1. But forgetting film is better: Around 20 years ago I wanted to shoot at the Kamares Gorge in Crete. It's a 3 hours of mountain-hike up there, it's a magical place that was used for ceremonies at the Minoan age (about 3000 - 1000 B.C.). Arriving at the Gorge I realized that the film was finished and I forgot my other rolls. Some days later I tried to return, this time with my camera loaded and spare film, but very bad weather forced me to return. So no images of Kamares Gorge at all...
I recently left the lens cap on until half way through a roll 😅. There should be a mechanism that ejects the lens cap if you try to shoot with it still on.
Wonderful series! The building should stay. Architecture is too important historically to be cast aside because some people attache certain feelings to it. I have tried range finder cameras & I wanted to love them ,including Leica's, but in the end I ended up with an Olympus OM 1n which I do love. Definitely ends the lens cap problem.
Not every camera is the right tool for every photographer, so I am glad to hear you have found what works for you :) I agree, the building is a historic peace and should not be judged by subjective standards of beauty.
Haha, good reasoning! I am not sure if the crazy scientists in there would agree with that, but if the bunker would be an institute for photography, I am 100% sure it would have worked haha
I won't be able to ever complete the bingo as my Bronica S2A will not allow the shutter to fire when the dark slide is in. ;) I am also not sure if I will ever shoot large format. The others I have already checked off my list though. :)
I consider I’m 4 out 5 on the bingo list. Haven’t lost a frame due to lens cap on rangefinder but got the warning signal from my MP so many times. I thought I shot a full roll of family photos but the film wasn’t caught on the receiving end. Tried to fire medium format with the dark slide on so many times.Luckily the Hasselblad doesn’t let you take the shot. As for the finger in front of the lens, I managed to do that on my Leica (the Summicron is so tiny…). Haven’t tried large format yet but I’m sure I’ll manage to mess that up as well. 😅
@@KarinMajoka thinking of it, I shot large format on a pinhole camera. I managed to put the 4x5 sheet the wrong way round so the back of the sheet was facing the light coming in. So I’ve done it all I guess. 😂
My first roll of B&W I forgot to set my camera's ISO to the film's speed. So I accidentally pushed 2 stops. Luckiest mistake of my life because the images turned out beautifully!
For the bingo, I'd like to add: shooting a roll of 100, after 800, and forgetting to change the light meter resulting in shooting 3 stops under... I've done that, not installing a roll of 35mm properly, and putting my finger in front of the lens.
Yeees, that one definitely belongs to the bingo as well. I had that happen to me several times as well. Overexposing is not too bad, but underexposing can really ruin the shots.
@@KarinMajoka as a bonus (but this is a “bad lab” bingo). I asked the lab I used at the time, if they do push processing. They said “I’m not sure, but I’ll take it and let you know”. I came back the next week, they had developed the negatives, and told me “unfortunately not, we don’t offer push processing”. So I had a whole roll of very dark shots! Like, at least tell me first, and then I will find another lab. (I did though, never use them again).

@@KarinMajoka An sich habe ich nichts mit der HHU am Hut außer dass ich da aktuell seit ein paar Wochen studiere und denke dass du dort ein Video drehen solltest! Man müsste nur vorher eine formale Erlaubnis beantragen um auf dem Campus offiziell fotografieren/filmen zu dürfen aber das sollte kein Problem sein denke ich :) Also falls du wen brauchst der den Kameramann macht hmu!
I love brutalism. I really enjoyed this video. I think this particular building is a bit “too much” for my tastes, but I wouldn’t want to see it destroyed. Unfortunately for me, living in Los Angeles, there aren’t many brutalist buildings in my area. There is a library at UCSD that I like and a couple of other buildings in the area that fit the style but nothing like what I imagine exists in eastern Europe.
The mistake I make the most is I forget to change the camera ISO and keep the ISO from the previous film to shoot a new one with a different ISO. I do forget from time to time to remove the dark slide on my Bronica 645 before taking a shot
True, that seems to be a common mistake as well, that also happens to the best ones. Luckily the Bronicas are forgiving and don't let you take an image if the dark slide is still in
I wish my light meter was through the lens or at least above the lens, but my current rangefinder of choice is a Yashica Electro 35 GTN, which has an awesome lens, but the light meter is next to the range finder. And I constantly forget to take it the lens cap 😂 I wish I had that light meter warning
Well, even with the warning I was not smart enough in the moment to realise what happened - if that helps you to know in any way haha. But generally through the lens metering makes sense indeed.
I will add one: Forgot putting in a roll of film into the camera and went shooting. Only realized it when you were done shooting and open the camera back and see nothing in it！(A true story of me shooting my medium format)
@@KarinMajoka yea definitely could have happened with the Leica 😂 Mostly Battery stuff like leakage and damage from that and also that the internal light meter isn’t that great
The only camera I use a lens cap on when I shoot is my Barnack type camera. I do this so I don't burn holes in my shutter. Of course the second time I pull it out, I shot several photos without removing the lens cap. Now I know why people were looking at me funny. They were probably like "what does she think she is doing? The lens is still covered" 🤦🏻♀️😂
Hahaha, or maybe they thought that you are an artistic grandmaster who does some wort of photography with the lens cap nobody else understands. Great story, had me smiling :)
I very recently did the missing SLR catch. I didn't notice until I was at shot 39 of 36... =D It took me about a month to "use" that roll. At which point, many of the images I'd taken were impossible to try again, or I'd forgotten I'd even tried to take. Luckily, it's a mistake that doesn't waste the film, at least. So I was able to use it again, and properly this time.
Oh snap, even though this didn't happen to me yet, I can feel that one! So sorry to hear about the missing images - but gladly the roll was not put to waste.
@@KarinMajoka I can just count them as practice runs. =D I just today actually started with a new medium format TLR, also. A new challenge to me. I'm looking forwards to the classic double exposure mistake. Trying to remember rolling on a new frame each time.

And it's built in Berlin which was pretty much flattened in the WWII. So in my mind it should stay. However, that glass monster that was built in Graz, Austria for example, in modern times, meaning it's brutalism on steroids, should go ASAP...
Hahha, for sure 😂 Yes, brutalism was a way to quickly rebuild Berlin after the destruction of WWII - so I feel it has a lasting historical impact which shall not be removed purely because of a subjective aesthetic disagreement.
Actually I retrieved the tip of the film using another roll of film (since I did not have my retriever with me on location). So I reshot this roll already which are the images you saw

I have been shooting since the late 1950's. All of your mistakes, plus add in the wrong ISO/ASA, tungstun v daylight, flash plugged into wrong socket, meter wrong (handheld meter), not notice film not advancing, wrong filter - BW on color film, not notice back door not closed light leak. And many, many more. With digital there are many more things to mess up. I have to say that is one nasty ugly building.
Film Photographer Fail Bingo.......I went to a friends wedding with two cameras, one with a wide lens, the other with a telephoto. For the first part of the wedding I shot away not realising that there was NO FILM in the camera with the wide lens. Thankfully the shots from the other camera worked OK.......I just pretended that telephoto was always my intention!
Ohhh no, I can feel the anxiety coming up only thinking about this! Glad the the other camera was fine and you found a way to make it look intentional ;)
@@KarinMajoka i actually got lucky and the Mäusebunker fence was open because there is a film crew currently. Problem was my camera shutter broke after 10 frames 🫠

I know the lens cap issue happened on the XPAN, but with my Leica MP, the light meter arrows will flash if the lens cap is on. Is it the same with your M6?
Thx for this cool video! I made a funny photo fail a few weeks ago when I shot with my Holga 120N. By mistake I took most of the pics in "B"-mode which caused some blurring. But I love the results and shot my next roll in B again. - Mistakes most often bring you forward.
That's what I (or Bob Ross...) would consider a happy little accident! :) So cool you got to embrace the "mistake" and turn it into something good
I did something years ago to prevent me from ever forgetting to remove the lens cap and it has worked flawlessly ever since. Install a UV filter and lens hood and throw away your lens cap. It's that easy, you'll never shoot another blank roll in your rangefinder ever again!

Accidental double exposures when using an Old folder like my Zeiss Ikon Nettar which had 3 on the last roll. Some were quite interesting

I would add "forgetting to change the ISO settings when changing rolls" to your film photographers' fails bingo. Can be fixed by pushing/pulling during development but still frustrating if it wasn't done on purpose.

You’ve probably already photographed it, but the flak tower at Humboldthain is a great bit of concrete - and Berliner Unterwelten do a great tour inside it

I haven't noticed compositions being not in line with the video footage. But your pants at 3:37 are not in line with the rest. 😂
Regarding mistakes, my most popular ones are mentioned here: trying to shoot with a dark slide (RB67) and shooting with the lenscap. I do that with my GW690 quite often, but until now I discover it right after the shot. I don't have it with my GSW680 III, because the built-in lens hood covers the aperture and shutter speed ring. In order to change you have to pop it up, which only of possible when you take off the lens cap. That's one advantage of the III vs I, if you ever might consider a Fuji GW/GSW range finder🙂
Other mistakes I made, only once fortunately: in a MF camera with a cassette like the M645 or RB67: loading film in the wrong way, so you are exposing backing paper. My very first roll of film ever that I shot in 2009, was with the M645j. Loaded wrong so I got 15 black prints back 😂
Fast forward to 2021, I explored Köln with my C330. Advancing the film felt weird. After the 12 shots were done I found out there was no film at all in the camera 😅 So now I always take the paper from the memo holder when the camera is empty.
Fortunately it was just a stupid mistake you made, when I read the description I was afraid your Xpan was about to die.

For your Rolleiflex TLR bingo; loading an exposed roll back into the camera, the auto counter will engage properly and give one a set of upside down double exposed negatives.

My bingo mistake that I must admit I've done too many times is to shoot a high speed or pushed film, then shot a fast film afterwards and not changed the ISO on the camera, leading to under exposed images.
Taking photos of such a brutal building can cost you an extra film roll! So it is dangerous after all
Yes, the risk is real to shoot way more film there than originally planned ;)
concerning the film mistakes... a lifetime ago, when i was still shooting on filml i was on an assignment with my two olympus om cameras. there was a lot of action happening in a short amount of time and things got hectic. i had to change film roll in mid action, and was constantly running to follow the people i had to photograph. so i rewound while running, then i had to focus on climbing over some kind of obstacle and when i refocussed on my cameras i opened the back of the one that wasn't wound back.
When things get hectic and you handle several cameras at the same time, it can be really hard to keep track. Hope you closed the camera quickly again to at least be able to safe a couple of the images?
@@KarinMajoka some of them, but even so i slammed the back shut imidiately, there was a lot of dammage. But in our modsrn digital days i have also managed to erase ta card i had not downloaded the pictures yet. So nothing much changed. I used to develop bw film myself, but quit film completely when i did the moove to digital, even so i still have some of my old cameras. Nice to follow your film adventures.

About the film-photography fails: Leaving the lens cap on is a classic... I recently hat 5 black frames on 36 with a Yashica MG-1.
But forgetting film is better: Around 20 years ago I wanted to shoot at the Kamares Gorge in Crete. It's a 3 hours of mountain-hike up there, it's a magical place that was used for ceremonies at the Minoan age (about 3000 - 1000 B.C.). Arriving at the Gorge I realized that the film was finished and I forgot my other rolls.
Some days later I tried to return, this time with my camera loaded and spare film, but very bad weather forced me to return. So no images of Kamares Gorge at all...
Oh no, so sorry to hear about this! I hope you at least have the memories saved in your head, which is what actually counts.
I recently left the lens cap on until half way through a roll 😅. There should be a mechanism that ejects the lens cap if you try to shoot with it still on.
Haha, that would be so funny if you think about it. Pressing the trigger that ejects the lens cap on the floor
Wonderful series! The building should stay. Architecture is too important historically to be cast aside because some people attache certain feelings to it. I have tried range finder cameras & I wanted to love them ,including Leica's, but in the end I ended up with an Olympus OM 1n which I do love. Definitely ends the lens cap problem.
Not every camera is the right tool for every photographer, so I am glad to hear you have found what works for you :) I agree, the building is a historic peace and should not be judged by subjective standards of beauty.
Add this to the bingo: Forgetting which film type is in your camera because you have too many cameras.
I am a bit confused as to why you didn‘t enter the premises. You did have two access all areas passes after all: an M6 and a XPan! ;)

For your bingo card - forgetting to change the iso between two rolls of film. Slightly problematic when going from a 400 to 100 iso film

I won't be able to ever complete the bingo as my Bronica S2A will not allow the shutter to fire when the dark slide is in. ;) I am also not sure if I will ever shoot large format. The others I have already checked off my list though. :)
Same with my Bronica ETRSi luckily! I am glad it does not fire, because otherwise it would have probably happened to me a hundert times haha.
I consider I’m 4 out 5 on the bingo list. Haven’t lost a frame due to lens cap on rangefinder but got the warning signal from my MP so many times. I thought I shot a full roll of family photos but the film wasn’t caught on the receiving end. Tried to fire medium format with the dark slide on so many times.Luckily the Hasselblad doesn’t let you take the shot. As for the finger in front of the lens, I managed to do that on my Leica (the Summicron is so tiny…). Haven’t tried large format yet but I’m sure I’ll manage to mess that up as well. 😅

@@KarinMajoka thinking of it, I shot large format on a pinhole camera. I managed to put the 4x5 sheet the wrong way round so the back of the sheet was facing the light coming in. So I’ve done it all I guess. 😂
My first roll of B&W I forgot to set my camera's ISO to the film's speed. So I accidentally pushed 2 stops. Luckiest mistake of my life because the images turned out beautifully!
I love those lucky mistakes, they are one of the many reasons why shooting film is so rewarding :)
Add this to the bingo: Not changing your ISO setting for your in-camera lightmeter.
For the bingo, I'd like to add: shooting a roll of 100, after 800, and forgetting to change the light meter resulting in shooting 3 stops under...
I've done that, not installing a roll of 35mm properly, and putting my finger in front of the lens.
Yeees, that one definitely belongs to the bingo as well. I had that happen to me several times as well. Overexposing is not too bad, but underexposing can really ruin the shots.
@@KarinMajoka as a bonus (but this is a “bad lab” bingo). I asked the lab I used at the time, if they do push processing.
They said “I’m not sure, but I’ll take it and let you know”. I came back the next week, they had developed the negatives, and told me “unfortunately not, we don’t offer push processing”. So I had a whole roll of very dark shots!
Like, at least tell me first, and then I will find another lab. (I did though, never use them again).
Hey Karin, besuch mich gerne mal an der Heinrich Heine Universität in Düsseldorf! Einige Gebäude hier erinnern sehr stark an Brutalismus und wenn der Campus leer ist hat das ganze bestimmt eine ganz andere Wirkung (Auch sicher Nachts mit ner Rolle Cinestill) :)
Was hast du denn mit der HH Düsseldorf am Hut? :) Ich kenne den Campus und kann mir got vorstellen, dass man dort auch tolle Motive findet!
@@KarinMajoka An sich habe ich nichts mit der HHU am Hut außer dass ich da aktuell seit ein paar Wochen studiere und denke dass du dort ein Video drehen solltest! Man müsste nur vorher eine formale Erlaubnis beantragen um auf dem Campus offiziell fotografieren/filmen zu dürfen aber das sollte kein Problem sein denke ich :)

You can see the lens cap on when you were fooling around. Don’t feel bad every owner of a Leica has had it happen to them, even me.

I love brutalism. I really enjoyed this video. I think this particular building is a bit “too much” for my tastes, but I wouldn’t want to see it destroyed. Unfortunately for me, living in Los Angeles, there aren’t many brutalist buildings in my area. There is a library at UCSD that I like and a couple of other buildings in the area that fit the style but nothing like what I imagine exists in eastern Europe.
Had that (lens cap) happen a couple of times. Luckily discovered it quickly. Stuff happens.

The mistake I make the most is I forget to change the camera ISO and keep the ISO from the previous film to shoot a new one with a different ISO. I do forget from time to time to remove the dark slide on my Bronica 645 before taking a shot
True, that seems to be a common mistake as well, that also happens to the best ones. Luckily the Bronicas are forgiving and don't let you take an image if the dark slide is still in
I wish my light meter was through the lens or at least above the lens, but my current rangefinder of choice is a Yashica Electro 35 GTN, which has an awesome lens, but the light meter is next to the range finder. And I constantly forget to take it the lens cap 😂 I wish I had that light meter warning
Well, even with the warning I was not smart enough in the moment to realise what happened - if that helps you to know in any way haha. But generally through the lens metering makes sense indeed.

I will add one: Forgot putting in a roll of film into the camera and went shooting. Only realized it when you were done shooting and open the camera back and see nothing in it！(A true story of me shooting my medium format)

The only camera I use a lens cap on when I shoot is my Barnack type camera. I do this so I don't burn holes in my shutter. Of course the second time I pull it out, I shot several photos without removing the lens cap. Now I know why people were looking at me funny. They were probably like "what does she think she is doing? The lens is still covered" 🤦🏻♀️😂
Hahaha, or maybe they thought that you are an artistic grandmaster who does some wort of photography with the lens cap nobody else understands. Great story, had me smiling :)

I very recently did the missing SLR catch. I didn't notice until I was at shot 39 of 36... =D
It took me about a month to "use" that roll. At which point, many of the images I'd taken were impossible to try again, or I'd forgotten I'd even tried to take. Luckily, it's a mistake that doesn't waste the film, at least. So I was able to use it again, and properly this time.
Oh snap, even though this didn't happen to me yet, I can feel that one! So sorry to hear about the missing images - but gladly the roll was not put to waste.
@@KarinMajoka I can just count them as practice runs. =D I just today actually started with a new medium format TLR, also. A new challenge to me. I'm looking forwards to the classic double exposure mistake. Trying to remember rolling on a new frame each time.

On the more serious note, you said that building is from the year 1970, what makes it a part of the history.
And it's built in Berlin which was pretty much flattened in the WWII. So in my mind it should stay.
However, that glass monster that was built in Graz, Austria for example, in modern times, meaning it's brutalism on steroids, should go ASAP...
Hahha, for sure 😂 Yes, brutalism was a way to quickly rebuild Berlin after the destruction of WWII - so I feel it has a lasting historical impact which shall not be removed purely because of a subjective aesthetic disagreement.

That film should be good to use, just need a film lead retriever. None of it should have been exposed with the lens cap on.
Actually I retrieved the tip of the film using another roll of film (since I did not have my retriever with me on location). So I reshot this roll already which are the images you saw

I have been shooting since the late 1950's. All of your mistakes, plus add in the wrong ISO/ASA, tungstun v daylight, flash plugged into wrong socket, meter wrong (handheld meter), not notice film not advancing, wrong filter - BW on color film, not notice back door not closed light leak. And many, many more. With digital there are many more things to mess up. I have to say that is one nasty ugly building.
Film Photographer Fail Bingo.......I went to a friends wedding with two cameras, one with a wide lens, the other with a telephoto. For the first part of the wedding I shot away not realising that there was NO FILM in the camera with the wide lens. Thankfully the shots from the other camera worked OK.......I just pretended that telephoto was always my intention!
Ohhh no, I can feel the anxiety coming up only thinking about this! Glad the the other camera was fine and you found a way to make it look intentional ;)

@@KarinMajoka i actually got lucky and the Mäusebunker fence was open because there is a film crew currently. Problem was my camera shutter broke after 10 frames 🫠
