I enjoyed this trip back in time …. but mostly I’m just so glad you sorted out your notepad. You cleaned it, wiped it, moved it so it was perfectly straight, and then admired it. …perfect.
I played Disco Fever today! WHEW, Banana Flippers are WAY DIFFERENT! No wonder Ron reacted the way he did when he first started playing it. You’re right about the backhand shots you get with the different flippers.
Those early electronic Williams pinball rectifiers NEVER EVER fail. My step father has been in the business since the late 70's, he still has a Time warp, Laserball Firepower, Tri Zone, Contact and Disco fever, all have been on location for over 2 decades and he still plays them regularly and sends them out on Party hires. All these pinballs still have the original rectifiers.
I was about 9 or 10 when our operator brought a Time Warp to the bowling lanes my parents owned. I remember being fascinated by those flippers and thought they were really fun to play. But as I hazily recall, the machine wasn't all that popular and the operator changed it out with another game after a short stay. Never saw the other Banana Flipper game but I have always wanted to play Time Warp again. Thanks for filming this one.
Thanks for watching! It didn't catch on so most people probably didn't like it, or only kids did, or something or the other. Maybe the operators didn't like them....
Wow! What a game! Nice repair! I’ve actually found a location with Time Warp AND Dance Fever! Looking forward to enjoy playing them as much as you did.
LOL when you moved the camera to adjust the volume. I got as dizzy as Donnie did getting off the roller coaster in Dollywood. I would love to play that pinball game. Born in 1964 I should of had the chance to play Time Warp, just don't remember it.
Thanks Ronnie, for working and fixing my father's Time Warp. He loves playing it all the time. He loves the spin of the ball when it comes off the banana flippers, it takes a game or two to figure the spin out. He did change those batteries in it. Thanks Ronnie for filming so he could see what all you did on it. Thanks Frank
You can feel it when you play it, it's hard to describe. The angle is a little different but the bounce is different, it's like the ball is spinning....

Awesome machine. I never played the banana flippers but it did look a lot more fun than I imagined. Good point on keeping machines as originally designed.
What a great game. Speed and flow and action. I’m thinking you should make some extra banana flippers and try them on various other games and see how they play. Thanks for the video
Such an awesome game! I'm lucky enough to have played both games Williams made with banana flippers. It changes the whole dynamic of the way the game plays. For me it seemed to make it more about rolling shots than the point and shoot style of traditional flippers.
My friend found one of these dead, but intact in an auto repair shop 1995. he bought for $100. brought it to my shop and we fixed it up. He still has it to this day and its a go to machine when in his game room. In true Time Warp fashion, First ball - straight down the hole! 😀 While fixing his machine, i found the top right pop bumper had never worked from factory. It was wired to the wrong output. The no back ground sound was known to happen sometimes, and happened every time on a no score ball returned to play.
Thank you D for confirming the sound issue. I have seen a few things in pinball machines where I thought "That never worked!", if the operator didn't catch it it might have crippled the whole game... depending on where it went, like if it ended up at the beach or something, hell the operator might never hear about it not working and then when it didn't make much money, he might pull it off route and not be much of a player so not notice the issue again and it stays that way the wholllllllle time until you or I figure it out :)

Growing up near Boston's infamous "combat zone" and after my bicycle accident, Banana Flippers were the only thing in town that looked like me and were a role model for me. Every other flipper game was straight as an arrow.
One more thing... if you notice on the backglass, Michaelangelo's "David (1501)" is staring intently at daVinci's "Vitruvian Man (1490)" in a certain spot. The statue of David is known for "having a lot of guts" as well. I'm guessing this was intentional

Another great video... Thanks! I kind of like the banana flippers. Besides the backhand, I think they throw the ball a lot harder, because they act with the same physics as playing Jai Alai.
I always loved the banana flippers. The ONLY acceptable reason to replace them was when the rubber covers for them were unavailable for a while many years ago. Time Warp is one of my favorite Williams pinball machines from that era. VERY fun game to play!
I remember Disco Fever machines breaking constantly.................those flippers. I guess the ones on Time Warp don't move together. Eventually regular flippers appeared on the Disco Fever machines. I didn't bother playing any more after trying it.
I got the Norton reference even before you addressed the ball. For those who hate banana flippers, you can make them red, and they'll be jalapeno flippers for extra spicy game play!
you know how you said there were only two with banana flippers. in 81 a Williams Flash from my local arcade went away for repair. When it came back someone had swapped out the flippers into banana flippers! We hated it, no-one would play it more than once so after a month of it sitting getting no play the owner sent it back to the repair company to replace the flippers back to normal. When it came back everyone started playing it again. that tells you what we thought of them at the time
The Idaho Pinball Museum has Disco Fever (Williams, 1978, I believe). I love those flippers and wish Williams had used them in more games. And I'm thinking that if I ever get an old Williams pinball machine that doesn't have them, I could always add them, right? Think Black Knight with banana flippers! I have both of the machines. The banana flippers make things feel so different. People hate them because they are used to straight flippers and can't adapt. It is the same reason that they do not like Orbitor 1.
People hate things that are different, hardcore pinball players are very weird, it's this "ooh ooh hit the ball" mentality, and they try to act like it's a sophistication. I never get the same stuff from Arcade game players, much more laid back. It's a very strange phenomenon, I can't completely figure it out but it has something to do with the simplicity of hitting the ball. Thank you for watching Jeff!
@@LyonsArcade I have over 50 machines in my collection now including both banana flipper games as well as Orbitor 1. I see you enjoy AvE also. I had a laugh at the little "hello ball" reference to him. I love how the online experts like to spout off about things they know nothing about. You are absolutely correct that you need to use a silicon based dielectric grease on those sliding contacts. When you use some contact cleaners they leave a dielectric lubrication film on the contacts too, and it is specifically designed for the purpose of cleaning contacts. They should go and search it. As per a particular encylopedia, starting with b. dielectric, insulating material or a very poor conductor of electric current. When dielectrics are placed in an electric field, practically no current flows in them because, unlike metals, they have no loosely bound, or free, electrons that may drift through the material. Instead, electric polarization occurs. Okay, rant over now
I had a question. When you clean the contacts, do you try to use isopropanol alcohol first? A lot of computer gurus use IA to clean. Have you tried it and has it worked for you? I don't remember you saying anything about IA as a cleaner and if you don't use it, can you give a reason why you don't use it?
Having worked in the electronics manufacturing field, I can tell you (or those reading) that 91% isopropyl alcohol is used to clean electronics during manufacture. (There are some things it shouldn't be used on, such as some printing, of course.) I don't see any reason why it couldn't be used to clean contacts in a pinball machine. Contacts where the parts slide (like in the video) would still need the dielectric grease applied afterward.
Not sure, they're usually off center a little bit, but these are more so. My theory would be, the flippers add more english on the ball, and theoretically if it still had considerable english on it after bouncing back past the flipper, it might bounce off the apron in a weird angle so they moved the bars to block it better than usual...
The temperature (light CCT) of the filament usually dictates how long the bulbs will work, if the bulbs are underdriven then it has longer lifetime. Usually when the transformer output is shorted it doesn't blow the mains fuse (something I learned when I was a teenager) until the transformer itself is cooked to death so fuse at the wrong side of the rectifier is a mistake worth fixing._
Does anyone know why SCR burn up lamp bulbs wear out the life span of the lamp bulbs compared to using FETs to turn on/off lamp bulbs extends the life span of the lamp bulbs?
I doubt it has anything to do with the type of transistor. Bulbs will last longer if run at a lower voltage and if they are not turned on and off suddenly. Perhaps the Williams runs a tiny bit of current through the filaments when the bulbs are not lit which will reduce the thermal shock.
A 3AA plastic battery holder is .60 on Digikey Why not remote it off the board where it won't ruin a rare board. Used to do this in the 80's when I worked on these every day.
The problem with putting grease on the drop targets is it attracts dirt. In six months you’ll have to take them out and clean them again. Try NMP sensors. No horseshoes, no sliders, nothing to get dirty, nothing to wear out, nothing to adjust. Put them in once and never mess with them again.
I went looking for the Super Lube at my local Home Depot. They don't carry it in store, at least at my location. *sigh* (And I needed it right away, so I went with another brand.)
The reason I’ve never really been into pinball is because of how hard they are to find in the wild! I still see the odd arcade game out there, and most of the good ones have Atari or NES ports, but I’ve only ever seen _one_ pinball in person. I’d love to play more but they’re nowhere! I know there’s games like pinball fx3 that simulate a few tables, but _c’mon people!_
@@TheRealScooterGuy Any bar my family goes to has Golden Tee or something. Our local bowling alley is also video games only. The only place I know of near me with a table is, surprisingly enough, a used record store with an Elton John themed game. Pretty fitting and very fun.

Ed "Ron" Norton..
Some of that stuff is the foundation of good Comedy
The background sounds switches off on Time warp if the outhole switch is closed twice and thus double kicks before scoring.
You must address the ball ha ha

Seems like a lacrosse shot with the flippers
A friend of mine owned a Disco Fever years ago. I wasn't a big fan of the banana flippers.
Is that a banana on your playfield or are you just glad to play it? 🍌
Boooiiiiinngggg
Hey Ron!!
The background sound issue is a known code bug.
Thank you sir
Fun game. I’m not in the 2% and that’s not cool. 😂 thanks for filming it.

Any idea as to why the biff bars are not symmetrical and so off center on this game?
Not sure, they're usually off center a little bit, but these are more so. My theory would be, the flippers add more english on the ball, and theoretically if it still had considerable english on it after bouncing back past the flipper, it might bounce off the apron in a weird angle so they moved the bars to block it better than usual...
Can I buy that notepad somewhere?
Sounds like there’s an AC hum mixed in the background sound.
The people who put rubbers to cover the outlanes are the same ones who use cheat codes on console video games.
Yup, and they're probably the type that read movie reviews so somebody can tell them whether to have fun or not!
I figured I'd leave it so you'd have something to complain about
He does that on a number of machines. But it adds to the cost for the customer (the part AND the labor). He said he would leave it up to the customer.
No thank you
I went looking for the Super Lube at my local Home Depot. They don't carry it in store, at least at my location. *sigh* (And I needed it right away, so I went with another brand.)
Yep. I wanna play a banana flipper game.
Really cool, never played banana flippers. Now I want one and it's all your fault.
I don't know where you are in the world, but truck stops, bars, bowling alleys, and the occasional pinball museum are where I find pinball to play.
@@TheRealScooterGuy Any bar my family goes to has Golden Tee or something. Our local bowling alley is also video games only. The only place I know of near me with a table is, surprisingly enough, a used record store with an Elton John themed game. Pretty fitting and very fun.
Who Me ????????😇
"If you change the game, you're not playing it"
...20 minutes later, left outlane has sucked up nearly every ball, tilt is hyperstrict, and perspectives are revisited.

Joe. People. I love your videos and meant only to participate in the banter. Heck. I even bought one of your shirts today. I am a fellow electronics tech, and I understand that communications can be the least-fun part of the job (for me, anyway), and I'm still going to watch your videos, and probably comment, because I like the people. I mean, come on!
The biggest issue I see with this pinball is that there isnt alot to do... targets on the left and right side and one ramp on the right and thats it... very little to game on.
You missed a lot of the stuff to do
It's true that many of the 1960s-era machines had a lot more open area in the middle (than today's games), but this game has a decent amount of things to do.
"Let's do the Time Warp, again!"
Sorry -- someone had to say it!
No Rocky Horror showings in North Carolina, Joe?
They used to have them all the time in Charlotte back in the 90's but I don't know if they still do...

I hated curved flippers I could not aim, could never get a good score
