Nice! This is a good example of when I would use an external foot-switch. It would be nice to always have that foot volume access, at the same time setting another expression pedal for that little bit of extra gain or volume. I see. Very nice!!! 🤘🏻🇺🇸🎸
Really good tutorial. Explained very well. I'm struggling with working my pedal so if you could cover more basics for dummies like me that would be great. Thsnks for your hrlo👍
Hi, I still don't understand what you're trying to achieve? Do you want a violin patch for the GT-1, where your guitar sounds like a violin, or a specific patch for an actual violin used with the GT-1?
Hey Tim! :-) Thanks for your comment - I appreciate it! I basically have two ways I like to set it up: 1. Clean patches. For the patches where I start with a clean sound I will most likely have the CTL1 assigned to turn on the OD/DS-block. I like to use the T-Scream overdrive, so that's my main OD. Also, if I have chorus, or any modulation on, I will also assign the CTL1 to turn that off. On my FS-7 I will assign the A-switch to activate the OD/DS-SOLO feature, increase the delay level and reverb level. On the B-switch I might assign a compressor, if I think I might need that. 2. Overdriven patches. For the patches where I start with an overdriven sound I will most likely have CTL1 to turn off the OD/DS I have on, to produce the overdriven sound. I might also, still using the CTL1, assign the chorus to be activated along with the compressor. For the a-switch on the FS-7 I will assign the OD/DS-SOLO feature, in case I need to go back to the overdriven side of my patch. The delay and reverb level assigns are the same here. This time I might not use the b-switch for anything :-) Hope this helps, mate! Let me know if you need anything else, or have questions! Cheers!
Great, thanks. I'm trying different arrangements like that that i'll use across all/most of my patches. I did have one other question: If i assign, say, the EXP1 to control my Delay Level (E.level), and then i want to turn on the Wah, shouldn't that by default disable the Delay Level assignment? (same as it does with disabling the volume foot control when switching on the Wah on some of the factory patches).
Hey! You're very welcome, Tim! It's great to make use of the assigns - I really enjoy that, and it makes everything so much easier! Hmm, I don't think that it will disable the Delay Level assign.. atleast not as far as I know.. I believe that assign is set to be activated, also if the wah is turned on, but you might need to have a look at the settings for the wah, maybe that will tell you something. Or try out different possibilites and see what happens :-) Cheers, mate!
Sometimes I do, yes. It all depends on what I need. Most of the time I will simply add in an overdrive, and keep the clean preamp that I started out with - the Clean Twin preamp. That will do most of my patches, but if I need something different, then I might set up an assign for changing the preamps. Cheers!
Hi mate - lovely your easy to follow videos but am still having trouble with trying to unlink the wah pedal from my existing patches. I've tried to change the Ex1 to OFF but no matter what buttons I press after that the pedal won't save the changes. Can you please advise what buttons I need to press and in what order once I've done the Memory/Edit / Ex1 / OFF ...cheers. I hope this helps, if not, then let me know. Cheers.

Hi! I hate to bother you, but I've encountered a problem and thought that you were the right person to ask for advice. I set the expression pedal to control the amount of gain, so I could smoothly go from clean-ish to drive. However, when I turn on the Wah and start rocking the pedal, the gain changes as well. Am I doing something wrong or is it supposed to behave that way? I used to have Digitech RP255 and whatever I assigned to the expression pedal stayed locked when I turned on the Wah. Thanks!
Hey there. If I understand what you're saying, then I believe the pedal simply acts that way.. Because, you've assigned it to control the gain, but once it's activated, so is the wah, and rocking the pedal that way will also activate the gain, making it go up and down... I might have to take a look at this, when I get to my GT-1 - if you want that? Cheers.
@@GuitarNTabs Thanks for your reply! If you can find the time, I would really appreciate if you would test your GT-1 to see how it behaves when set up the way I described. Also, you want to use the Wah, activated by the Expression pedal, as well? Cheers.
@@GuitarNTabs I use the first patch called "Hi Gain Stack", which uses the preamp gain, but I think the same would happen with any OD/DS gain. Then I activate the Wah, expecting the gain to stay locked at 40, but it still changes when I rock the pedal in the Wah mode. Thanks a lot for trying this yourself! You are awesome!

Hi can you please tell me can you download gt100 patches on to boss gt1 since it has the same chip. I have patches that I have downloaded from Glen delaune that I love. thanks great site Love how you help us to master the gt1
Hi there, Brian. Thank you for your kind words and question. The chips is somewhat the same, yes, but I haven't tried moving patches over... If I needed a certain patch, then I've just copied the settings from one unit to the other... I know there are a program called FxFloorBoard, and I believe there's a version for both the GT-100 and GT-1, so that might be the way to do it.. Sadly, I haven't used it that much, so I can't really go into much detail.. I generally just copy the different settings, and plot them in on the other unit - no big deal. Let me know if you have further questions, or need anything else. Best regards Cheers.
Hi new subscriber here, great vid this one! Slightly off topic, but id really appreciate some insight...when i save a new user patch/preset...and i tell it the "Target"..(which is the next number/patch..as perthe boss demo vid), it overwrites that target "Factory patch/preset"......thats not normal is it? How do i save a new user preset without overwriting the existing factory patch/preset? (Bit of background....i initially saved a new patch, then initialized it, then factory reset that specific patch -( i selected "From 59" - "To 59").. i then eventually did a complete factory reset "From Sys" - "To 99".. perhaps i shouldve selected "From 01"??..... im worried ive bugged the firmware)
Hi there, 0001musicman, welcome to my channel! :-) Thanks for watching and thank you so much for subscribing - appreciate it! Whenever you want to save a patch, and you select the 'save target', then you'll always overwrite the patch that is already in that 'target' spot. You can't save a new user preset/patch without overwriting the existing factory patch within that User-section. If you want to keep that factory patch, then just save it to another spot, before overwriting it. But hey, as far as I know, I believe the User patches and the Factory patches are exactly the same, so you should basically be able to just scroll to the Factory section of those patches and just save that to the User section. The Factory patches can't be changed, when they're in the Factory section, but if you save it to the User section, then you'll be able to adjust it and always save it :-) Initializing patches means that you wipe that patch clean, and basically start over - that's great when you're creating new patches and need a clean slate. The factory reset is going to restore all of the factory patches and settings to the default, coming from the factory. Did this answer your question?? :-) Otherwise, please let me know! Cheers!
Thanks for the reply!! :-) Ok i think i get it.. I could save over the factory patches that i dont need.. ""but if you save it to the User section"" Sorry prob a dumb question.. Where is the user section exactly? Theres the 99 factory preset/patches (ie. 01 High gain stack - to - 99 Retro Tremolo)... i assume thats the "Factory section".. Sorry im a little confused.. How do i naviagte to the "User Section"?.. or save to it.. what "target should i select? (are there empty user slots somewhere?) (edit* im out atm and dont have access to my GT1... in hindsight, probably shouldve asked this while i have it in front of me.. and btw sorry for writing another essay :P
The preset memory in the GT-1 has two sections: A factory section with patches and a user section with patches. Basically those two sections are the same patches, but the user section patches can be edited, initialized and overwritten. The factory section can only be copied/saved to the user section - and from there you can always edit/change them. You just have to save the patch to a slot in the user section - you decide where. The way you're able to identify the user section from the factory section is that the user section has a U displayed, then followed by the number of the patch you're on. For example, U01 - followed by the name of the patch, or just a clear screen, if the patch has been initialized. The factory section is displayed with a P, followed by the number of the patch you're currently on/using. No problem, mate, don't be sorry, I'm happy to help you out! I hope I've explained it so that it's understandable - if not, then ask again, we'll figure it out! :-) Cheers!
Really appreciate this feedback mate... Youre a legend! :-) OK so in your Tutorial Setup Vid (at 13:00 mins) ua-cam.com/video/uOlqhR0rG50/v-deo.html i can see you have a patch which is a big "U 40" (and incidentally, it isnt named..its blank where the name should be..) Then in this BOSS tutorial vid (at 1:36 mins) ua-cam.com/video/jaQapGH0n9M/v-deo.html hes on the normal "POWER METAL RIFF" Patch screen...(Top left, in small font, is P04, and the name of the patch is in Capitals) He then presses the enter button, and the display changes to a big "P04" (similar to your big "U40") and the patch name (ie "Power metal riff") switches to a small font... So how do i get to the big "U" screen? or the user section, period? is there something specifically to access either the "P" or "U" screens/sections? The official BOSS tutorial obviously he presses the Enter button to access the "big P" screen.... (Again im at work so i don't have unit in-front of me..i cant remember if when im normally scrolling through patches if there's a small "P" (and patch number) in the top left of my display or if its a small "U"...will double check this when i get home). Basically i just want to be able to understand how to access the factory and or user sections.. or even more literally..take "retro tremolo" slot #99.. edit it.. rename it to "retro tremolo 2" , and move it to slot #3 but not overwrite anything.. and then repeat this process with my other favorite 10 patches.. Thanks again man! edit* i understand theres 99 user slots (??) and that id inevitably have to overwrite something.. (its more the overall "patch management" and re-saving, re-naming, and moving patches/slots etc that is confusing me)
Thanks for your kind reply! I'm just happy that I can help you out here, mate! :-) Yes, that's correct, the patch that I'm on (U40) is a patch in the User-section, and the reason that it is blank, is because I 'Initialized' that patch. Meaning, erasing all the previous effects that were saved in that patch. Doing that just allows me to start from scratch with a new patch, without having to manually turn off all the previous effects, etc. You can Initialize a patch, only in the User-section, by pressing both the 'ENTER' & 'EXIT' buttons at the same time. The display of the name of the patch and the preset number can be changed by just pressing the 'ENTER' button - then the display will change, and you can select what display you like the best. Getting to either the Factory patches - starts with a 'P' then followed by the number of the patch's location -or the User patches - starts with a 'U' then followed by the number of the patch's location - you'll simply just scroll through the patches, until you arrive on the very first User-patch = U01. You're now in the User-section, where you can edit and create new patches. Remember, when you're in the Factory-section, then you can't edit the patches, but if you like any of the Factory patches, then you can always save them to a slot in the User-section patches. You just press both the 'ENTER' and 'EXIT' buttons, and then select your target - for example U05. Accessing the Factory Presets (P01-P99) and the User Presets (U01-U99) is simply done by scrolling through the patches, until you reach the U for the User Presets and the P for the Factory Presets :-) So it's just a matter of scrolling to get there, really. I get your confusion, it's hard at first to actually wrap your head around it, but you know what?! I'll take some time later today to make a little video about that! I believe that might be a little easier to explain it then! :-) I'll post a link here, so you can check it out, mate! :-) Cheers!
Nice! This is a good example of when I would use an external foot-switch. It would be nice to always have that foot volume access, at the same time setting another expression pedal for that little bit of extra gain or volume. I see. Very nice!!! 🤘🏻🇺🇸🎸

Hello, thank you very much for your useful information. I am waiting for the violin programs 🎻
Hi,
I still don't understand what you're trying to achieve?
Do you want a violin patch for the GT-1, where your guitar sounds like a violin, or a specific patch for an actual violin used with the GT-1?
Yes, of course. Like a open book. Many thank. I m so happy.
Hi Berg, Can you share your preferences for how/where you like to assign which functions to which CTL's?
Hey Tim! :-)
Thanks for your comment - I appreciate it!
I basically have two ways I like to set it up:
This time I might not use the b-switch for anything :-)
Hope this helps, mate!
Also; So you don't necessarily use the CTL1 to switch pre-amps in your live-rig? (i.e. this video is just for demonstration purposes?)
Or try out different possibilites and see what happens :-)
Cheers, mate!
Sometimes I do, yes. It all depends on what I need. Most of the time I will simply add in an overdrive, and keep the clean preamp that I started out with - the Clean Twin preamp. That will do most of my patches, but if I need something different, then I might set up an assign for changing the preamps.
Cheers!

How about if I push down the expression pedal to activate the button and assign it to different effects, will it affect the assign of the expression pedal you had assign to?

Hi can you please tell me can you download gt100 patches on to boss gt1 since it has the same chip.
I have patches that I have downloaded from Glen delaune that I love. thanks great site
Love how you help us to master the gt1
Hi there, Brian.
Thank you for your kind words and question.
The chips is somewhat the same, yes, but I haven't tried moving patches over... If I needed a certain patch, then I've just copied the settings from one unit to the other... I know there are a program called FxFloorBoard, and I believe there's a version for both the GT-100 and GT-1, so that might be the way to do it.. Sadly, I haven't used it that much, so I can't really go into much detail..
I generally just copy the different settings, and plot them in on the other unit - no big deal.
Let me know if you have further questions, or need anything else.
Best regards
Cheers.
Thanks for watching and thank you so much for subscribing - appreciate it!
The Factory patches can't be changed, when they're in the Factory section, but if you save it to the User section, then you'll be able to adjust it and always save it :-)
Initializing patches means that you wipe that patch clean, and basically start over - that's great when you're creating new patches and need a clean slate.
The factory reset is going to restore all of the factory patches and settings to the default, coming from the factory.
Did this answer your question?? :-)
Otherwise, please let me know!
Cheers!
Thanks for the reply!! :-) Ok i think i get it.. I could save over the factory patches that i dont need..
""but if you save it to the User section""
Sorry prob a dumb question.. (are there empty user slots somewhere?)
(edit* im out atm and dont have access to my GT1... in hindsight, probably shouldve asked this while i have it in front of me.. and btw sorry for writing another essay :P
Cheers!
Really appreciate this feedback mate... Youre a legend! :-)
OK so in your Tutorial Setup Vid (at 13:00 mins)
ua-cam.com/video/uOlqhR0rG50/v-deo.html
i can see you have a patch which is a big "U 40" (and incidentally, it isnt named..its blank where the name should be..)
Then in this BOSS tutorial vid (at 1:36 mins)
ua-cam.com/video/jaQapGH0n9M/v-deo.html
hes on the normal "POWER METAL RIFF" Patch screen...(Top left, in small font, is P04, and the name of the patch is in Capitals)
He then presses the enter button, and the display changes to a big "P04" (similar to your big "U40") and the patch name (ie "Power metal riff") switches to a small font...
Yes, that's correct, the patch that I'm on (U40) is a patch in the User-section, and the reason that it is blank, is because I 'Initialized' that patch.
Accessing the Factory Presets (P01-P99) and the User Presets (U01-U99) is simply done by scrolling through the patches, until you reach the U for the User Presets and the P for the Factory Presets :-)
So it's just a matter of scrolling to get there, really.
I get your confusion, it's hard at first to actually wrap your head around it, but you know what?!
I'll take some time later today to make a little video about that! I believe that might be a little easier to explain it then! :-)
I'll post a link here, so you can check it out, mate! :-)
Cheers!
THank You
You are very welcome! :-)
I'm glad that you found my video helpful!
Rock on - cheers!
