    You are an open minded person👍 Hope more westerners can develop their independent view about China. Enjoy your study in China!

    Lived in Shanghai for over 12 years and drove past JiaoTong Uni so many times but never ventured inside, certainly is a beautiful campus. If you ever get to Xiamen, check out the campus there, another stunning location.

    My mental health is kind of suffering here in Europe (life is too expensive, people are hyper individualistic, having to work part time besides my study to pay my rent...) and It's been a thought for a long time now to move to Asia. I wanted to go to go to university in Vietnam but there weren't many alternatives available for a psych major. China is also very appealing and if you can see through the western propaganda it truly is an amazing country. Do you have any recommendations (I'll probably visit China next summer first and maybe do an exchange year later on)?
    Thanks :)

      If you can get a scholarship, it may be a good choice. If you can't get a scholarship, it is also good if your family can pay for your living expenses, because overseas students here may not be able to take a part-time job (I am not sure whether overseas students can take a part-time job, because I am not an international student). Besides, there are many good and bad universities here. I'll look into it for you if I see it.

    Lol. Very brave to try dialect of Shanghai. I can pick up what you said after repeating listening a few times. University students in China would not do military service, but about 2 weeks to a month military style training to discipline students.

    Hey Luke, am I correct in guessing that was mandarin you were speaking, if so that's great as I am told it is difficult to learn as a slight tone change can alter the meaning etc, may I ask where you studied it and also, what made you decide to move to China ?

    • @livinlavidaluke
      @livinlavidaluke  Рік тому +5

      It was a local dialect, Shanghainese, quite different to Mandarin! For Mandarin, i just listen to music, watch tv and speak to friends! Living in the right environment is important!

    • @dionydonny
      @dionydonny Рік тому +4

      Mandarin is actually very easy to learn because the grammar is exceptionally simple(probably the easiest of all languages). But if you want to learn to read and write Chinese characters, it's a nightmare.

    • @erfanyu902
      @erfanyu902 Рік тому +2

      Learning Chinese characters is actually not as difficult as imagined. Because Chinese characters are pictures, it is easier for you to recognize pictures than vocabulary! It may be more difficult to write Chinese characters, but now there are computers to type, it is much more convenient. It is difficult for you to recognize characters at the beginning, but after you have recognized fifty characters, it will be easier to learn other characters, because these characters have rules to follow. Don't shy away from learning Chinese characters, because learning Chinese characters can help you memorize new vocabulary.
