Omg! I remember this day! The scariest day of my whole summer vacation of 2015. I was 6 years old when it happened. It was a beautiful sunny day where I lived and my grandma and my mom were at my house while my dad was at work. Then around 3 o clock, not a lot of clouds started moving in. Then around 5-6 pm, it got really dark. About 10 minutes before, my grandma left to go home so she drove in this whole storm. We were all worried because we didn’t know if she was okay or not. Luckily, she made it home safely but there was lots of damage she drove past. None of the houses near me were damaged but the trees and other stuff outside were. My dad was also safe. He stayed at his work place until the storm was over. The skies turned navy blue, it was so creepy. But after the storm, the skies turned like yellow. Of course at my age i thought the world was ending lol. I’m 15 now, and I haven’t seen a storm like this in New Jersey ever since and we’ve gotten some big storms. If people say that was just a severe thunderstorm, that’s not true. That was a BIG ASS TORNADO!
It was actually a derecho, or a squall line of straight line winds. Although this storm does share similar characteristics to a tornado, a derecho is much different, and more often than not, causes more widespread damage than an EF1 tornado, in my opinion. Granted, a tornado could still develop in a derecho, but unless there was a confirmed tornado where you were, it was most likely a derecho that caused the damage.
I'm also in Delco! I haven't forgotten this Storm! I was getting a Tattoo at 5p that Day & the Storm hit right as I got in the Door of the Shop. It sounded like a Freight Train!! I'll never forget how Quiet it was right before it hit, the Abrupt Temp Drop right before it Hit, how Black the Sky was before it hit, how big the Shelf was coming into my Town, how Green the Sky was during the Storm & the Orange Colored Hue after the Storm. The Destruction of Trees Down, Poles down, Power Outages, Flooding, House & Roof Damage, etc was CRAZY!!! I'm glad I was able to find Footage from my Area... Thanks for that!! I've been reminiscing this Terrifying Nightmare in light of what's supposed to hit this Area Thurs into Fri this Week. They're talking a Repeat of this Storm!! Be Safe!! 🌪⚡🤙
I read your comment before getting to that point in the video so I was waiting to see what you were referring to and damn it definitely came all at once and completely changed the whole dynamic. It just goes to show that things can change in an instant and catch you off guard. Had he been on the backside of the shed doing something he'd been in a lot trouble. When storms come rolling in it's always best to stay away from trees if you have that option.
Wow....what a beast of a severe storm and I love your camera positionings as well!!🤩 In the UK we very seldom get gust fronts like that and that is, raw power!! 👌🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
