  • Hello everyone,
Today in this video I am going to talk about the dynamic range setting on Fujifilm X-T2. The first time I picked up a Fuji X-T2, this setting confused me a little bit. Does it extend the dynamic range setting of the sensor? Does it apply to JPEG photos or RAW files? How to enable dynamic range setting 200% and 400%? Today in this video I am going to talk about that.
    How this setting works:
Dynamic range 200% is available only when ISO is 400 or above. When making a exposure, if there is over exposed area, the camera will try to under expose the highlight area by going with a lower ISO. If you are shooting with ISO 400, then your camera will go to ISO 200 to make a lower exposure. Then combine the under exposed highlight area to your original ISO 400 exposure.
Dynamic range 400% is similar. It is only available when your ISO is 800 or above. When making an exposure and if there is highlight area, the camera will try to under expose the highlight area by going down to ISO 400 and ISO 200, then combine the under exposed area to the original ISO 800 exposure.
However, this seems only to work with JPEG files but not RAW files. I tried a couple shots and found the improved dynamic range on the JPEG files, but the RAW files didn't make any difference.
For me, I always set this dynamic range setting at 100%. The first reason is I always want to shoot at the lowest ISO possible. At ISO 200, only dynamic range 100% is available. The other reason is that this setting doesn't support RAW files.
I hope you enjoy this video and found it helpful to understand this setting.
[UPDATE]: The dynamic range settings do apply to RAW files. Check out the updated video here: • Fuji Dynamic Range Set...
