    Im just gonna say that rivens mate is definitely the most humanized of all the ahemkara in the fact that his final wish was for the safety of his children at the cost of his life. That just paints how little we know of the more emotional side of our advisorys and i want more storys that tug at our heartstrings

      Riven kinda touches on that during one of her dialogs. Basically boiling it down to her kind being so territorial that even finding a mate was something they struggled with, and when the great hunt happened, they couldn't be bothered even then to really come together for the survival of their own species.

    This mission made me love the Ahamkara more than I already did. To hear that an Ahamkara such as Taranis cherished everyone who wished to him and didn’t twist their wishes to his own desires fascinates me. Then again, I’m a sucker for characters/species that don’t give into their nature and use it for something other than themselves.

    The story of Taranis was actually quite heartbreaking. Riven was genuinely happy when she met Taranis and she'd probably have a completely different personality if it wasn't for the great hunt or the Taken king. On a side note I hope Byf is recovering well. Sending positive vibes and thoughts.

      It makes me wonder, instead of a second Great Hunt being inacted to end the rest of the Ahamkara once and for all, could there be the possibility for a better future? Where, like the Guardians, the Ahamkara of the next generation, may be more than their nature? Mara has said the curse in the Dreaming City cannot be undone, that Riven brought the city to ruin. But, doing the impossible is what Guardians do best. I could see Shaxx nurturing a better relationship between Sol and the Ahamakara. At the very least, eventually persuade them to not feed, much, on the innocent. Who knows what future awaits us and the Ahamakara? I only hope the Awoken, and us, are able to rebuild after our “eternal war” has finally ended.

    • @danteloyal8014

      @garrettviewegh9028 I heard a theory in anouther comment that Riven might grant a final wish after ours. A wish for the Ahamkara to be free from their wishing nature. Basically removing their need to twist wishes to feed and their ability to grant wishes, removing the need for a possible second Great Hunt as they couldn't rewrite reality anymore and only need food and water to survive. A true reinstatement of Rivens children and the Ahamkara as a whole at the cost of the rest of Rivens' existence by granting her own wish.

      A genocide is generally difficult to justify without demonising it's victims. And it seems the last city had a real long phase of demonising outside threats (even if justly) and exiling anyone who saw the enemy as a source of potential knowledge and information.

    I love Taranis, a real embodiment of the Traveler's philosophy. If it weren't for his devotion, bravery, sacrifice and death, the Witness would've remained unchallenged as it brought upon the Final Shape. Just such a great tie in to the overall theme, truly.
    And his description of the Darkness (or perhaps the Witness' use of Darkness), hunger without choice...chilling and accurate.

    • @Catalyst375
      @Catalyst375 5 місяців тому +4

      Hunger without choice, or with "purpose"? The Hive Gods were defined by their natures which became their 'purpose'. Oryx must always navigate; Savathun must always be cunning and lie; Xivu Arath must always fight. Deviate from their nature, their 'purpose' their Worm starves until it devours them.
      The Taken as well. All free will and individuality is removed, and the victim is hollowed out until it is filled with the will and 'purpose' of the one controlling.
      Even the Witness, potentially. It was created to be the 'salvation' its first victims desired, to be the Winnower. It is an entire civilization coalesced into one being, a being that might have all their memories, and might remember the individual wants of its constituents.
      In short, the Witness has a purpose. But is it so bound to that purpose that it literally cannot be anything else, even if a part of it might want differently?

    • @Fanatator

      Risen Taranis 😮

    • @kyleespinoza7201
      @kyleespinoza7201 5 місяців тому +1

      @Catalyst375 and therefore, hunger without choice seems to be a perfect description of the Darkness, or at least the brand that the Witness uses and wants to impose on reality and everything in it.
      I'd imagine Darkness at its most neutral would be considered just "hunger" then, since that would arguably be the most universal driving force behind all living creatures, and being aware of hunger leads to fear, which leads to self preservation, which leads to consciousness or a sense of self which desires to continue living.
      Which, if you think about it, sort of is the Dark mirror of the Traveler's philosophy.
      Devotion = Hunger
      Bravery = Fear
      Self Sacrifice = Self Preservation
      Death = Life

    I wonder if this mission will be a turning point for Riven’s character. Up until now she’s been acting very spitefully towards Mara, Crow and the guardian, demanding that they retrieve her eggs but not exactly helping them do so. Finding Taranis and learning that he is the reason her eggs are scattered across the ascendent plane and that he sacrificed himself to protect them, she remembers the one Ahamkara she knew who acted selflessly. Maybe she will realise that a future where the witness wins is one where her kind cannot survive, and maybe she will sacrifice herself in some way to help us reach the witness.
    I must admit I was pretty fed up with Riven’s antics and her hostility towards us as we help her, but I noticed how she took on a more somber tone in this mission and I actually felt pity for her

      @@heliospyrus1941The Guardians and the Awoken also did have her imprisoned. Mara desired a “unique power” to be the seat of power within her city. Used Riven as a weapon, a trophy, a relic of influence. Keep in mind, a civilization that the Hive killed off, had a peaceful community, a good relationship with the Wish Dragons. With all she’s suffered, no wonder she worked to hinder us. Guardians, Awoken, Ahamakara, our other allies. None of us are purely good, and innocent. We do not subscribe to the Sword Logic. But we have done bad things in the hope to safeguard our future, and that of others. Perhaps by the end of this, we may all learn to be as selfless, and kind, as the honorable Taranis. Still, I don’t blame Riven. She’d been used as a weapon, a slave, by the Awoken. Then, butchered by the immortals that wear her kin as trophies.

The way I see it, Beyond Light, was the beginning of a shift in status qoe: From, light is good, we are good, darkness is bad, so we must destroy all darkness. Guardians accepting that, we are not heroes. We are morally grey defenders. Guardians of humanity. And now, Guardians of the Coalition and Sol. We’ve done bad things, we wield Darkness and Light. But all in the hopes to build a greater future that our enemies took from us. Only difference now is, before we’d made excuses, and believed ourselves to be good, and just. Now, we’ve simply accepted, we, and many things in the universe, are not so black and white. We’ve admitted, and realized we aren’t the good guys. But we aren’t evil like the Hive, Witness, or its followers. Even the seemingly “perfect utopia” of Neomuna has recently realized that they aren’t perfect either. They have so many skeletons in their closet that Nimbus has only begun to learn of, thanks to Osiris. There are more grays in the Destiny universe than we’d thought.

      It isn't really a problem. His wish was to keep the uncorrupted clutch out of harm's way until someone arrived to protect them.
      Savathun having one of them was integral to lead us towards their existence; as well as putting us in the position where we, enactors of the great hunt, wouldn't be incentivised to "finish the job", and conversely protect them.

      Yup. This season has sprinkled in a few hints as to how the Ahamkara could have been. Riven pondering about how things could have been if her kind were more "human", a symbiotic relationship between a lightbearer and an Ahamkara, an Ahamkara that resisted his nature to keep others safe, and that same Ahamkara sacrificing his existence to keep his children safe. I personally see this as not just hints of what could have been for the species, but also what can still be.

    This mission has me so mixed, going back to the Black Garden is so cool, and the lore around it is great, the one issue I have with this mission is that there is no ralley flag for the first or secone encounters! I had to kill the first boss with an SMG, and dying meant I had to restary with less than I should have had. I hope it's a mistake that will be fixed soon because that was honestly miserable. This activity has wyverns, cyclops, and taken Phalynx, death can't be that punishing.
    On a more lore-related note, I'm honestly ob Riven's side now, the recent lore heavily suggests that Riven did not want the great hunt (this is all subject to change if there's a twist that she did), which means Mara wiped out Riven's race and imprisonned her for her own reasons, destroying her home and killing her brother is honestly fair enough with the context that she was imprisonned forever whilst her spiecies were hunted to extinction. And considerring the Guardians were responsible for the great hunt too, Cayde's death seems more than reasonable as well.

    • @josh___something
      @josh___something 5 місяців тому

      I mean, of course she's against the great hunt. It's a genocide of her own species, done by nigh unkillable zombies that can't easily be wished away because they're made of the same stuff as *your wishes*.
      Also, for the entirety of our time dealing with riven, she had already been taken. Her power and actions being seized by someone other than herself. Her nature is still selfish, but it shows us that she can still be sympathetic.

  • @FinxOmally
    @FinxOmally 5 місяців тому +3

    This will leave an interesting dynamic if all the eggs hatch. Because I get that we have evidence of a ‘good’ Ahamkara. It will only take 1 to go rogue and cause the death of the good ones and we’re back to imposing doom due to 1 dragon that didn’t as easily forgive us for mass genocide. Which is kind of understandable that’d they’d not be too keen to like us.

    • @josh___something
      @josh___something 5 місяців тому

      It's an example that benevolence is a path an ahamkara *is able* to take.
      It's like a vampire proving they can sustain themselves on something other than people. It's in an Ahamkara's nature to be selfish and cruel cause that's how they survive, up until now, we've seen no evidence (even from hefnd) that an ahamkara can grant wishes and sustain themselves _WITHOUT_ a cost.
      Unlike hefnd, who was only able to grant wishes with little consequence because the burden of retaliation was carried by Naeem, Taranis WAS able to live without scorning everyone who bargained with him.
      It's a path that Riven's clutch can now take, where previously Ahamkara would only assume cunning and deceit was the only way. And knowledge to us that Ahamkara aren't doomed to be malevolent monsters that can't be left alive.

  • @acgearsandarms1343
    @acgearsandarms1343 5 місяців тому +3

    I was originally of the opinion that if the Ahamkara return as a species, they’d have to leave Sol for everyone’s safety. But with the introduction of Taranis, there’s a new potential for the eggs. They can find a new way to live for themselves and not harm anyone else. But the only real tradeoff is finding someone to raise them and safely feed off desires and wishes. Like Taranis once did. Who’s going to be babysitter for a pack of whims? Can’t be Mara. Ideally it should be a Guardian or Lightbearer who can handle the burden, kind of like with Naeem and Hefnd.

    • @josh___something
      @josh___something 5 місяців тому +1

      As with dragons in fantasy, tales of malevolent destruction were there to set the stage. To show how ahamkara were POWERFUL, and formidable.
      But to keep them in stories without their power warping the whole narrative around them, you must either kill them all off, or to find a reason they can live on without turning your world into swiss cheese with all the plot holes.
      It's a bit elegant how they did it. This new generation of Ahamkara is free to be benevolent, but heavily implied to come at cost to themselves. So you can have a powerful and dangerous ahamkara that can act like your stereotypical dragon, or tamer ahamkara that can be bargained with safely but with heavily limited power (grandiose wishes require a lot more energy from ahamkara, and require much more twisting so the ahamkara won't be net negative on the exchange. Also why granting their own wish would kill them, the difference between their own desire and what they make reality would be 0. And even if it wasn't, it'd only be feeding on itself like an ouroboros)

    1. Get well, Byf!
    2. Great to get a chance to "meet" you editor Martin, albeit it would've been better to do so under different circumstances.
    3. I have a sneaking suspicion that our efforts, as valiant and thorough as we thought we were, did not fully extinct-ify the ahamkara as were lead to believe, with this new mission bringing more details of a full clutch of eggs gone missing. Eggs that are spread across wider, varied environments tend to favor evolution differences and promote diversity in future generations. Thereby, Taranis, by his actions was also further influencing the survival of the future generations of what could hopefully become a new ahamkara lineage/era. What an amazing under-story of parental love and loss and hope for future. Beautifully executed mission and cutscenes yet again!
    4. Happy [insert localized December celebration name]! If you celebrate, may it be a joyful celebration/occasion!
