This is a great rundown of Aikido's functionality.
Bastl and Casper have been really delivering in terms of aesthetics, build quality, and ergonomics.

I'm looking to buy a VCA with envelopes and have in mind either the Aikido, Qarv or Joranalogue Morph 4. Any preferences by anyone and why?...

I would go with qarv. It changed my system and let me dedicate maths to something more specialized

still trying to understand if the aikido is stereo itself or if it needs external routing to be stereo

Each VCA is mono, the mix output is mono. But you can pair up two VCAs if you want to make a 2 channel stereo setup rather than a 4 channel mono setup, like I show in this video.
