When he says thirds it's like a playing a scale but you add the third in between each scale note. So instead of stacking thirds continuously (C-E-G-B-D etc) you instead play C - *E* - D - *F* - E - *G* - F - *A* etc. This is a common exercise in many technique books for all instruments.
@@frankvc6181 … It’s not old to me and that clears it up. Thanks Max for asking and Frank for explaining. A very cool video. Is the Backun clarinet as good as it is pretty? Such a thing of beauty.
Love it! How far into the altissimo do you recommend? I've been trying to address some habits with my embochure and air support currently, so any tips would be really helpful!
When I was a student, breath support was my biggest issue. I always had a "thin" sound until I learned how to support it. Think about breathing from your stomach rather than breathing from your chest. You also need a hard enough reed to provide enough resistance to achieve that "full," rich sound. Good luck!
Aim for 16 seconds, 8 up and 8 down with maximum dynamic change. Once you have that, aim for 18 and then 20! Build up your air capacity and control. You can do it!!
@@nebulablinx Aim for 14! See what you can get. Make sure to take in is much air as possible, filling up as low as possible. Once you get to 14, aim for 16, then 18....
"It's like going to the gym for your mouth" 😂👍 love it!
It sounded dirty
Thank you for the lecture
I found with twenty seconds I always have a bit of air left... But if I use more air it just stays louder for longer.
Intonation Sensation try 22 seconds!
"in thirds" -- How is going from C to E and then to *D* playing in thirds? Shouldn't it be from C to E to G? Please explain.

JaxemsR you could try all the way up. To high G perhaps. See how you go. It’s great for your control up there
Marvellous. But take a look at Martin Schmidt-Hahn s clarinet- sound. His sound on a german-system- clarinet is one of the best ones nowadays
What do I do if I just have a bad sound? It sounds really dry and I tried different reeds but the tone is always not very "full" or "strong"

@@fortyseven915 Thank you!

What if you can't get 20 seconds

Why are you playing with your chin down?
