Yeah, this video clearly shows the difference between driving it for a few days and owning it for 20 years. The guy speaking in the video is a tech enthusiast and ranks anything with a lot of tech high points. If the only thing one cares about is a car that drives nice for 2 years, great, get the Ford Ranger. But if you want a vehicle that will last 30 years, get the Hilux. The older the platform, the more reliable. Putting the Ranger in S tier despite clear track record of defects, breakdowns, and expensive repairs, just destroyed any credibility this dude had, if he had any.
@@motorpolitan8884 You neglected to include the horrible Ford service departments. They are known to treat their Australian customers like dirt. My own experience was paying for the 60,000 km service and the oil was not changed. I picked it up straight away because I do not trust them and always check everything myself after a Ford Service visit.

Went from a 2019 sr5 hilux to the gwm cannon x and towing was a downgraded but eveything else is just so much better! Will definitely be a brand that will be up there in price in a few more years just like Kia and Hyundai did went from everyone hating them to everyone buying one
Still a risk. Chinese makers are dumping stock at cost price as they struggle to sell in China as the economy is downgturning. While the manufacturers are claiming normal sale numbers, the insurance registrations are about half of that number, which indicates many are owned by the banks and not truly sold. If the parent company gets in trouble good luck with support.
@@bazza2540 Fact is that chinese makers are selling well in domestic market, but put their old old model to australian market. MG3 is a out dated model in China which is off market from 2019 but still a good selling car in Australia. The only problem needed to be concern is the dealer of chinese makers broke because of financial issues, such as bad cash flow management especially in this high cash rate situation. The makers from China are so rich, SAIC, Cheery and GWM. It seems like they will not abandon Australian market easily without come out their brand new models, have already sold in China for several years.

Would love to see the Mahindra Pickup in analysis like this. In standard guise they are pretty dull but here in SA they get sold with a ton of aftermarket kit like uprated suspension, aggressive AT tires, bull bars, roof racks etc. Still more affordable than a base model 2.4 Hilux or bottom of the range Ranger 4x4. Its a real option for the budget minded buyer, not just a laughable tractor based bakkie 😂
Personally I wouldn't care about Power or cornering ability when it comes to utes. My main concerns in a ute would be for work so Durability, Reliability, Towing Capacity, Common issues, Costs of services, maintenance and Fuel efficiency. Not so much interior design and technology as most the newer utes all look good and have nice interior. Also, maybe even offroad capability comparison would be nice.
I just got the wildtrak V6 in may. Its so far ahead of the dmax, hilux and everything else its not funny. The amarok wasnt around yet but its a bit more expensive for less kit so i ruled that out. The hilux is a bit of a joke, so expensive and you get literally an 8 year old car. Only truly considered the dmax because its great value.
Paul Maric's Raptor suffered a broken differential after 1820km. Watch the video he has on it. Ford Port Macquarie fixed it straight away. They wouldn't for Kentaylor though.

The izuzu will outlive both the utes you just mentioned and i have Toyota's myself. In the mines the izuzus are proving tougher and more reliable than your choice but it's a three way split between Izuzu toyota and Mitsubishi in the nw. Izuzu utes have truck components in them from Izuzu trucks good for a million kilometers. James.
Really enjoyed this review. It would have been even better if you could have included comments on warranty / parts availability etc as I have heard (unsubstantiated) that owners of big US utes and some of lower budget utes don't have a good network despite have extended warranty
I really wish to buy a Ford, but I recently found out "wet belt" issue and not sure should I move to Dmax or just give a shot with a Ford, wishing now Ford fix the issue. And I am really surprised that no one cares about this major crisis. Now I am wondering is it because it is actually minor issue but few people making a fusses about or people just being ignorant and don't care because it is 100k miles later.
Really fair judgement, the only one I disagree with although they were valid points, is the raptor, as it not designed as a work ute and with the price the extras (especially the suspension set up and the engine and front diff lock) it more than pays for itself as it would cost you way more to do those mods yourself

79 series are reliable and customisable, that’s about it. Poor stock power, very, very outdated interior, uncomfortable, not great off road due to lack of flex and getting hung up on the leaf springs, and expensive for what they are

They weren’t designed for comfort, heavy off roading, smashing km’s on bitumen, being tuned etc. They were designed to be unfazed in harsh climates, rugged environments and pulling heavy loads at moderate speeds. The LC’s design and engine is as much as the people it was designed for, and it’s longevity is as much as those who respect it for what it was designed to do.
Sorry Mat, but I can’t agree with your Dmax rating . I owned an LS-U for two years and it drove me nuts. I now have a Ranger Sport and love it. Other than the brake pedal feel, it’s awesome👍. We have 3 in our fleet and none of them suffer from the screen glitching you mentioned.

Not a good comparison I’ve owned a few utes & drove a lot you should compare the utes that can tow 3.5 ton & have @ least 500Nm of torque under that is very underpowered especially as a lot of Ute owners tow

I test drove every dual cab ute, the nissan is shocking my wife said is this supposed to sound like this ,while accelerating ,sounded so noisy and stressed and not going anywhere real fast.
Raptor is by light years the best. After owning my Raptor for just on 12 months my round town economy is 13 litres , 10.2 on highway. Getting up it in Baha mode off road will chew a lot of juice but boy how much fun it is to drive. I owned 3 wildtrakc X’s before and while they were all good utes they were not even close to the raptor for sheer fun of driving
Heard the Great Wall Ute front seat on long journeys (1 hour plus driving) really affects your legs due to no seat tilting? Is this true? I know it's true with the Havals.
A friend just bought a Jeep Gladiator Rubicon - it's actually pretty impressive. I think it might do pretty well against some of these utes. ps. You're also missing the Dodge Ram 1500

I had a PJ Ranger for 14 years. Super reliable, only spent money on tyres and batteries. Now I drive the new Ranger 😃
