    I wish you attended the Great Western Steam Up at the Nevada State Railroad Museum during the July 2-4 as they brought in so many engines from the mid 1800s, all but one being operational. I was there on the 2nd and it was an unreal experience

    An excellent video of the Rio Grande Narrow Gauge Railroad. Great this steam locomotive, today as 425 of the D&RG and not as 315. Very nicely filmed the track and the landscape of New Mexico and Colorado.

      When the locomotive was purchased from the Florence & Cripple Creek RR, in 1917 by the D&RG RR, she was originally numbered 425. In 1924 she was re-numbered 315 when the D&RG became the D&RGW. Same engine, different time period.@@funtechxtream8753

    I’m curious as to why the lettering was yellow instead of white like the 168’s lettering since they were double heading wouldn’t it have made more sense for them to match? was also the large yellow numbers being in the Railroad Roman font on the tender reminds me of the Southern a little bit

    • @TheWeigman
      @TheWeigman 2 роки тому +1

      There was a bit of a historical discrepancy with 168s lettering and later with 315s lettering as well when we backdated her to 425. It was pointed out to us that D&RG documentation at the time showed all locomotive lettering was to be "Chrome Yellow/Orange". There are also accounts of people in the last 40 years or so sanding down the paint on a couple D&RG tender cisterns and finding remnants of large yellow numbers. So by those as well as a deep dive into a ton of historic photographs and documents for the shape/size/kerning it was determined this would be the correct for the target time period of 1917 or so. However by the later teens to the 20s or so before the D&RG reorganized, they made a switch to immiation illuminum/white lettering. So, one could say the difference between 168 and 425 is correct as a sort of transitional period. Theres a hand full of threads to read through on the NGDF if you're interested further.
      Crew member Dave Taylor had applied the yellow lettering onto 425 the Friday before the VIHR event, and had the vinyl cuts to do 168 as well, however time ran out by then. These were applied to 168 for the Lerro charter however, which is the same event most of this footage in the video is from.
