    This is a very general overview of the steps to installing a commercial or residential slide gate.
    In step five we install the chain. When looking down on the chain you don't want left to right flex between the chain bolt and the idler sprocket.

    I'm installing a solar gate opener with a chain. My chain looks like my motorcycle chain. I hate dealing with it. I took off a link and it was too short...what a pain in the butt to put that back together. I tried to hammer the pin back in, woudn't work because the pin wouldn't even sit in place!! I ended up drilling a slightly larger hole in the chain breaker tool to hold the pin and was able to push the pin back in place using the tool. Thanks for the video!

    Some manufacturers also make a rack drive system. These are great if installed properly. No chain to deal with.
    The other thing that makes a big difference is purchasing a get opener with a dc motor. The ac motors start at full voltage and cause the chain to jerk with that full power instant start & stop. The dc motor allows the unit to ramp up and down the speed and greatly reduces the chain slap and torque put on the chain. The other benefit with dc drives is they lead themselves to have battery backup easier than an ac system. A huge plus!
    Make certain that you systems accessories are wired into the circuit board for power so those too can have the battery backup. At minimum make certain the receiver is on the backup.

      Those are all good points that also have good counterpoints, no system is perfect which is why you have an expert review the site, ahj requirements, manual releases, etc.

    Hello, thank you for the helpful video. I changed the chain and everything works fine but my emergency pedal thats suppose to allow the gate to manually open, since I changed it hasn't been letting me manually open. Any suggestions?

      Think the chain is ok, not too tight. Might have figured out the cause. Thank you for your reply :)

    How much slack should you have?

      You have to check the manufacturers specs in the manual. An expert will most likely want to see 2" - 4" up and down travel per 10'. There are a lot of variables that any American Fence Association trained technician will be qualified to answer those questions.

      @@SafeguardControlsLLC LiftMaster CSL24VDC says chain should sag down 1 inch per 10 feet of chain. That seems to be correct. Mine is 5 years old last month and never given a moment's trouble

      @SafeguardControlsLLC  4 роки тому +3

      @@charlesvalenzuela34 That's what most manafacturer's recommend. We find that works on shorter gates. However, 2" per every 10' works for us.

    Mines only a year or so old, and it’s already starting to rust....

      Nickel plated chain will rust. It’s a step up from the black oxide chain but still gets rusty. They do make stainless roller chain. It last much longer but will also eventually rust too. Keep some chain lube on it. That really helps. They sell it at Lowe’s and Home Depot. Don’t use anything with thick grease. It stops the rust but also holds everything that comes in contact.
