After everything that has unfolded in Ukraine over the past few weeks and seeing all the hate being thrown at Sergei, with people calling for his cancellation due to his past support of Putin and cheering for his recent injury to his Achilles tendon during a gala performance in Russia in early March... I just have this to say:
I will not cancel beauty. I will not cancel Sergei Polunin. I will not abandon or shame, or seek to crush and destroy a man who dares to be flawed and to bare his soul anyway, a man who dares to pour himself out as a gift of beauty to an ugly world that frequently attacks everything it finds unacceptable in him.
I will not cancel Sergei Polunin. Regardless what he has said or done in the past, I will not place on him any political demands or burden him with heavy dreams or expectations that he bring about peace in the world.
This is not wide-eyed hero worship speaking - This man is not a god. This man is not my idol. This man is my brother. A fellow human being with many strengths and many flaws. A man with a generous heart and a sensitive soul. A man who dares to feel deeply and to express himself the best he knows how. A man who creates beauty that brings light and healing to those who are open to the gift he gives. Those who know what they are talking about call him a genius of his art form. Others see a visionary with a childlike heart - with all the accompanying impulsivity, passion, tenderness, curiosity, naivete, and yet-uncrushed hope to make the world a better place that such a heart can hold.
One doesn’t have to turn a blind eye to Sergei Polunin's flaws to still see something deeply precious and worthy of being guarded in him. I regret only that I cannot do more. That I cannot grant him the forgiveness and mercy of the ever-present mob. That I cannot give him a world that truly values beauty and individual human life.
I will not cancel beauty. I will celebrate and guard it to the best of my ability, even if what difference I can make seems underwhelmingly small. And wherever the unstable present and the uncertain future may find him - I pray Sergei is safe in mind and body, that he knows in his heart how deeply he is loved, and that he is truly at peace in his soul.

✨WORTH FIGHTING FOR ✨ For those who haven’t heard: Sergei was injured during a gala performance in early March. He had surgery on his Achilles tendon and was treated by medical specialists in Dubai where he and his family were staying. FURTHER DETAILS below.
[ ** 4 MONTH UPDATE: July 5, 2022 ** New performance dates announced!! Sergei is optimistic about how well his leg is healing. He has returned to many of his normal activities, including working out at the gym and doing ballet class regularly. He and his family have returned to Moscow. He and Elena recently announced their official engagement and they are excited about working on several upcoming creative projects. One of them will be a ballet production of "The Master and Margarita."
Sergei is excited about returning to the ballet stage and is confident enough in his recovery that he has recently announced that he'll be performing at an upcoming ballet gala (July 28 & 29). He has also announced additional venues and performance dates in October and November 2022 for his "Rasputin" tour - beginning with his scheduled performance on October 8, 2022. He has also released a new promotional video for his upcoming "Dante" performance scheduled for December 7, 2022. **]
The current political situation will make it challenging for him to continue dancing on as broad an international stage as he has in the past. But I’m praying all the best for him. And as long as he wants to keep dancing and sharing beauty with the world, I will be in his corner. 🌹✨
As I mentioned to another fan here - It’s all too easy to fight ugliness in the world by dishing out ugliness onto other people. (Sergei has admitted to doing this himself at times.) But it’s a much harder and much more valuable thing to combat the ugliness of the world with gifts of beauty. And Sergei does this so much more than his critics will ever acknowledge or will likely ever give themselves. His art is a priceless gift that I will gladly receive from this fellow imperfect human being - a flawed, yet generous and beautiful man.

Wonderful video which I think shows the true facet of Sergei. He has a strong personality that not everyone likes, but he has the courage of his opinions and I know he fights for children and the oppressed. Those who criticize him would do well to look in a mirror and what they would see would be far from beautiful. When the Paris Opera refused to receive him, I then understood that it was because he was denouncing things that were happening there that were far from normal. I like Sergei and I know he's a nice person. I feel that justice and truth are on his side and no one will tell me who I should love or not, and even less my country which has committed crimes on my son and myself as well as thousands of other children.
In any case, he is also the most extraordinary of dancers. Thanks for this video and for the beautiful Sergei tribute you pay him too.

I hope to share something more about his injury and recovery here soon. But Sergei hasn’t shared many updates or details about his recovery yet, although he said he would in following social media posts.
In his most recent update he said he was “almost walking” and is hoping to be able to start doing ballet class by the end of this month.
He has a performance scheduled for October, but this may be overly optimistic… from what I’ve seen and others have said about this type of injury. We’ll see! I think I can safely say that most of us just want him to take as long as he needs to recover and will understand if it takes longer. (Most dancers with achilles injuries are out for around a year.) But Sergei sounds very optimistic about a fast recovery…so we’ll just have to wait and see and keep him in our prayers. ❤️🩹

What"s happening to Sergei?
Sergei was injured during a performance a couple of weeks ago. He had surgery on his Achilles tendon and is being treated by medical specialists in Dubai. The doctors gave him an estimated 3 months recovery time, but he has tentatively canceled all his performances for the rest of the year.
He is staying in Dubai with Elena and Mir and the new baby (no official news yet on their baby’s birth.) He is hoping to return to dancing as soon as possible. The current political situation with the war in Ukraine and some hostile public sentiment towards Russian artists and for Sergei in particular due to his previously expressed support of Putin, including the tattoo, will make it challenging for him. But I’m praying all the best for him. And as long as he wants to keep dancing and sharing beauty with the world, I will be in his corner. 🕊❤️✨
