  • My favorite Wings concert period! This is not a copy from any common DVD, but a new transfer from an original PAL S-VHS. I believe this to be of better quality than what has been seen before. The audio here is an experimental stereo mix, one channel is the original video feed, and the other is from the direct soundboard recordings. Anyways, Wings kick serious rock and roll AS** here! Go Jimmy...

Remembering Jimmy McCulloch born on June 4, 1953. He was a Scottish musician and songwriter best known for playing lead guitar and bass, as a member of Paul McCartney's band Wings from 1974 to 1977. McCulloch was a member of the Glasgow psychedelic band One in a Million (formerly known as the Jaygars), Thunderclap Newman, and Stone the Crows. - en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jimmy_McCulloch

Jimmy was a truly underrated guitarist. Seeing as how Wings did tunes from Paul and Denny's respective pasts (example: Beatles songs, or "Go Now"), it's a shame they never worked out any of Jimmy's stuff from Thunderclap Newman. "I See It All" would've been nice if re-interpreted by Wings, but I guess Jimmy wasn't the kind of guy to keep looking back, and I've heard that he never got on musically with John Keen.

Great song - thank you for sharing this version! Although we didn't hear Jimmy sing often, I think he had a great "bluesy" voice. However, from a band that also had Paul and Denny on vocals, his voice was bound to be under-used...

    @lalovelylinda I can answer that.
Jimmy used to double up his vocals when recording. That meant recording the vocal line and then recording it again on another track and running the two together to add a fuller sound to the vocals. It's a common trick used by a lot of singers back in the day. Paul would just 'double up' the vocal with Jimmy when they played live.

Great video! Paul doesn't stop moving for a second.
And thanks Mikemaniax for the tip on "I See It All". I have the Thunderclap Newman "Hollywood Dream"album and only listened to it once or twice. Nothing seemed to stick out. Everything sounded too much like "Something in the Air". I played back "I See It All" and it's pretty rockin'.

I don't know if it is only me, but this live version Jimmy played the solo mid-song way up on the neck on the narrow frets, and it largely replicates his guitar sound on Venus/Mars. On another live concert performance of Medicine Jar on YT, he was using a Gibson SG, but I believe he went into the solo somewhere around the middle of the guitar neck, and the solo sounded a little weak, not as emphatic and muted in tone. This one had all the high notes/bends/screech he put into the acetate version. Boy, the kid could play, couldn't he? Gone, like many others, way, way, way too soon.

    "Medicine Jar"
    What's wrong with you?
    I wish I knew
    You say time will tell
    I hope that's true
There's more to life than blues and reds
I say, I know how you feel
    Now your friends are dead
Dead on your feet, you won't get far
If you keep on sticking your hand
    In the medicine jar
    Now don't give up
    Whatever you do
    You say time will tell
    I hope that's true
If you go down and lose your head
I say, I know how you feel
    Now your friends are dead
Dead on your feet, you won't get far
If you keep on sticking your hand
    In the medicine jar
I said, dead on your feet, you won't get far
If you keep on sticking your hand
    In the medicine jar
    What can I do?
    I can't let go
    You say time will heal
    But very slow
So don't forget the things you said
I say, I know how you feel
    Now your friends are dead
Dead on your feet, you won't get far
If you keep on sticking your hand
    In the medicine jar
I said, dead on your feet, you won't get far
If you keep on sticking your hand
    In the medicine jar
    Medicine jar
    The medicine jar
    Medicine jar
    The medicine jar
    Medicine jar
    The medicine jar
    Medicine jar
    Medicine jar
    Medicine jar
    Medicine jar

Great tune. Pretty ironic though that Jimmy wrote this one and Wino Junko off of Wings at the Speed of Sound, and then died of a drug overdose at 25. R.I.P. Jimmy

@JimmyMcCullochFan Oh wow, I thought he wrote the whole song. The 1st time I was really aware of him was in the song Jr's. farm when Paul said, "take me down Jimmy" at 1st I thought it was Jimmy Page doing a studio session, but soon learned that Jimmy McCulloch was a great guitarist in his own rite.
