😮🤯 why couldn’t I find this two months ago!! I have been searching for a video EXACTLY like this for SO LONG. I asked around in wig groups, and even with some of the wig influencers and nobody knew of any info on how to adjust a wig like this. I butchered several wigs in an attempt to get them to fit. I am petite/average and flat-headed, so I needed to know how to reduce circumference AND remove bulk, but I couldn’t find any videos except two and they were done so sloppy. I can’t thank you enough for this, you are an Angel. I can’t wait to share this with other ladies I know who struggle with the same thing. ❤

Thank you for your very excellent video... As a woman with a 21 inch head circumference, any commercial wig I buy is far too big. I would definitely say my head is child size like me as I am only 55 inches tall...

Thank you so much. I think this is exactly what I was looking for. I had just buzzed my hair And now all of my caps fit too large and sit on top of my ears. Can I sew together the two elastic that are right behind the ears for this purpose?
You could absolutely try it. You may find if it is a bit too gapped that you may still need to bring the sides in a bit, but tightening the straps would absolutely help the feel!

It really would be quite similar - the only thing though, is that if you have a true 360, there will be a tiny seam where you sew your alteration. You could use a clear filament thread to make it as hidden as possible though.

Won't it make the wig feel lopsided only doing the one side? And what about the ear tabs? Wouldn't that draw that ear tab back too far?
I totally get what you are saying, but it really doesn't unless it was too tight to begin with or makes one of the sides significantly shorter. If you have the room, its best to balance it to both sides, but its not necessary.
Brilliant video. I have a child size head and absolutely upset that I gave one long hair blonde wig away because of that bulk and it kept falling off.
I also just recently bought another wig for video shoots on my channel, however, I just have ran into the same problem of it being bulky.

Hi, how do you remove the plastic insert that comes with this style of wig cap? I love using this type of wig cap, but Im having a terrible time removing the plastic.
Hmmm... I'm not sure what you mean exactly - the wigs we used don't typically come with a plastic insert. I would suggest looking for any stitches or tabs you can remove. If all else fails, perhaps the place you purchased it could help?
My issue is the cap is just to big at back of crown and It bunches up behind my ears too. So need to alter vertically & horizontally. How can I alter this without losing too much of the hair? It already has fairly light density @ the back.
It would depend on the construction, but if it is wefted, you should be able to pinch the amount, then cut and reattach carefully. It shouldn't alter the density at all.
Thank you ! I will try this on my new wig I got as it is bulky in the back. My question is, so I will understand, my wig is to bot from ear to ear (if I dont do any adjustment when I put my wig on it goes over my ears). Will these changes help this? It is to long fron forehead to the neck and bulk underneath as well as on the back of my head.
You can adjust it in both directions. To see how it will fit, try pinning it (or rough stitching it) first before altering/cutting into it. That way you can see which sections you will want to adjust and by how much.

What about when the top and front of the wig is too bulky? Is there anyway to thin it out to make it look more natural??
Unfortunately, not easily. If you cut the strands close to the base, it tends to make cowlicks. The only way is to meticulously try to remove hairs individually or entire wefts from the cap. The best thing to do is to buy a flatter/thinner cap. We are looking into bringing a line of wigs in that have this - recently, we have come into the same frustration - finding wigs that are just too bulky on the top. The wigs we have always carried tend to be more natural in volume as the bulky tops were always a pet peeve of mine too.
Thanks! Question: A couple of my wigs fit with one exception. They come down a bit too far over my ears. To correct this rather than cut from weft to weft, can I cut a small section between wefts then sew the wefts together? I hope that makes sense.
Possibly - but really in order to lift over the ears, it would be better to take the slack from the temples so that the ear tabs are lifted. I would suggest taking a look at where your top cap connects to the side panels. If you cut along that seam, you should be able to take a small amount out on either side and then carefully stitch them back together. :)

Thank you so much! I felt bad about the request as I know you are busy. A solution to thinning hair would be great. The reason for my recent change to wigs. Problem I most have with wigs is the choice in petite sizes and with small head and facial features most look like too much hair for me.
OMG, I KNOW!! I can never understand why wig companies have these HUGE scalps with so much volume. Wigs like that drive me crazy. lol You might really really like the Bohyme Toppers then. They are so fine and flat. Such a great alternative to wigs. Oddly, Bohyme wigs are too puffy at the base - but the toppers are perfect!
My wig doesn’t have those strips that come down, the whole thing is covered in lace fabric (not lacefront) so you can’t see the wefts. Now what?
That really depends on the design. I'd say its still possible, but you'll need to study the construction to see where its safe to cut. You should be able to see the wefts from the top, even if you can't see them from the bottom. An answer is there. :) If you need help, you can always send me some images and I'd be happy to do what I can. :)
Which of these two methods would help the wig for nice around my ears so the ears can show. Kind of like if I was to put the hair behind my ear the wig I got its to big around my ears
If the ear tabs are too long, I would cut them up a bit higher an reinforce where the underneath seams were. If it looks too heavy or if you accidentally remove too much, you can always make a bit of mesh filler - see the video for making a quick hairline for a wig - this is great to add to delicate areas, not just hairlines. :)

Is there a way to combat crown bulk.....i.e when the crown of the wig sits up in the top
It depends on what is causing it. Often times, the construction is made to give the appearance of volume at the top.
I personally look for wigs that are flat in the crown area that have some kind of realistic skin part.
If you have a wig that has too much volume, you can put it on a styrofoam block, soak a washcloth in freshly boiled water, part the hair and pat it down, use tongs or heavy gloves and place the hot rag on top of the crown and compact the hair down. Repeat this until the volume has compressed to your liking.

Can I make a smaller wig bigger it fits but I need it to fit my head looser?
You can alter a wig to be a tiny bit bigger, but sparingly, and not if you need more coverage with the hair. To loosen the fit of a wig that is too tight, cut the center nape and sew in a piece of elastic to help it stretch and reconnect the nape.
is there a way to do this on a full lace glueless wig?
This would depend on construction of the wig, but most likely, yes.
And what about ear to ear? Any hints there? It still comes down over the Ears. 😟
If you need to raise it up, the best way to do it is to cut near the temple and take out a pie sliced shape without altering the top of the wig. You can typically stitch the wefts or lace (depending on how it is constructed) without any gaps or noticeable bumps when reattaching to the wig top.

I bought wigs that have the ear tabs. My ear tabs cover my ears halfway. can I cut them up and just leave the edge free or will it fall apart with use? Thanks in Advance!
You should be able to alter it without problem, but add a drop of liquid super glue (not gel) to any went you cut to stop it from fraying. If any of it is too scratchy, you can sew edge casing (available at sewing stores) to hide the raw edge.

Nobody, but nobody has a video of fixing the length from ear to ear....just always the circumference! Ugh
Typically hairlines are not the easiest to alter - do you mean that the ear tabs are seated too low? If this is the case, you will want to cut on either side of the top cap to disconnect the ear tabs, then cut out the section of ear tab, move it up and stitch. You need to be very careful not to cut the attached hairs. If you accidentally cut something that starts to unravel (depends on your wig's construction), you can use a tiny amount of super glue gel to secure it. Be sure to stitch carefully, and it should look perfect. :)
