Pair Logitech Non-Unifying USB Receiver to the Mouse

- Sometimes, the dongles for Logitech mice get left on old keyboards and the mice are simply gathered up in a box destined for eWaste. Well, in this video, I show how the non-Unifying USB receiver can be paired to the mouse even if it wasn't the one that originally shipped with it.
I qualify that in both cases shown in this video, the USB receivers were the right dongles for the mice, but weren't the ones that originally shipped with it. The host system that ran the utility was a 2019 MacBook Pro booted in the Windows 10 Pro bootcamp partition (How I wish the silicon laptops had that feature).

Perfect, and thanks for the video. In my case, the dongle was bad and wasn't connecting to any USB port on my computers, which was causing the issue (it would work if I applied upward pressure to the dongle while in the USB slot). I purchased an M317 mouse from Sam's for $12 and got the dongle I needed for much cheaper than online. Then I used the software you demonstrated to connect the devices to the new dongle. Badda-bing! My wireless keyboard and mouse combo is working again.

It comes in real handy. I have a regular assignment at a job site, and once again, some sneaky little house squirrel swapped out their mismatched keyboard, and mouse for my supervisors working keyboard and mouse. At any rate, took less than a minute to fix.

Thank you. I needed this to add a replacement keyboard to a mouse & keyboard set. Just had to remove and replace the batteries since the keyboard doesn't have an off switch.

Same here. I had roughly 7 or 8 displaced keyboards and mice and dongles. I used this to get them all working. Now we’re down to only two because all the rest have been handed off to employees to use.

Hello. I have a mouse with its dongle and got an old keyboard without the dongle. If I pair the keyboard, the mouse still works?
Yes, provided that the keyboard & mouse originally worked with a non-unifying receiver. No mixing and matching between unifying and non-unifying keyboard, mice, and dongles - sweet as it would be if that were the case.
Both in this video, and in every case I have done this process since, I have had the same model keyboard and mice that were sold as a set, but just mixed up between other identical units and the dongles.
I have not tried to pair a keyboard and mouse from different models with a dongle.

How do you pair a mouse/keyboard (on a macbook) when the logitech webpage is saying "there is no download for this version" when you attempt to download unifying or connectivity software ?
There's a small down-arrow to the left of the page - click that down-arrow to select your OS.

Hello. It appears that I have the wireless receiver but I cannot pair it even tho I turned it off and on already. Please help
Have you made sure the keyboard & mouse batteries are good? If they are not, it would give the appearance of the app not pairing the dongle to the keyboard & mouse.
My connection utility does not pick up the new dongle. I have an old keyboard k270 and new mouse M185 non unifying.
The reason it’s not picking it up is because the K270 keyboard requires a unifying receiver. It’s a different type of technology. The unifying receiver has a little orange logo on the side of it. The non-unifying receivers do not have that. You cannot mix and match them. You would need a mouse that uses a unifying receiver to pair with the 270 keyboard. Also, there is a separate utility that pairs unifying receivers.

I bought some tp-link Bluetooth dongles…the Logitech software isn’t reading it…did I buy the wrong product?
Yes, you must use the Logitech non-unifying receivers if you are using a non-unifying keyboard/mouse set. You can tell which one you are using because the unifying keyboard & mice have the little star inside the orange rectangle. The non-unifying dongles and keyboard have no such thing.
Also, the non-unifying receivers are wireless but not bluetooth.
My M185 came with different dongles. N/N C-U0019, and they don’t work with connection utility software.
You have a unifying receiver, which is denoted by the Orange logo on the side. The utility I displayed in this video was strictly and exclusively for non-unifying receivers. The difference being that your was designed to connect to multiple devices, not just the keyboard and mouse with which it was shipped.

You should find the utility you need at that location. I have used it before to pair additional devices., But it has been a while, and I don’t often counter the unifying receiver variance in the workforce. I find that non-unifying ones frequently. I had to do it just yesterday.

I'm trying to do it on a Win11 machine, but it has a weird behaviour. When I download the software, it opens normally, but then when I click on next after I connect the USB dongle, the software closes on it's own. It´s not a RAM or resources problem, the app just closes after connecting the dongle and clicking on next. I would very much thank some help. For extra info, its a G305 Lightspeed Wireless, and the software version I tried downloading was 2.30.9, however I tried using the other versions that support this mouse and same behaviour happened (on the software models that didn't support it, the dongle just didn't appear)

I do not have a G305 mouse, but from what I see, it requires the G hub software. Try installing that. I am curious if that app work have the effect of pairing the mouse. Either way, that is a requirement, which may explain why the software terminates age clicking next.
@@technologistonthego2377 I got it to work! For this, after installing the G Hub, i went to settings, and there is a pairing mode inside of it (down, in like a blue tone). It's almost the same procedure as it is here, but only under the settings section of the G Hub, no need to use the other software! Thanks for the info, much love

I have tried and tried to do this with a non matching dongle and a Logitech MX 2S mouse and for the life of me I can't make it work. I've done with others but this one ...
The Logitech MX 2s mouse uses a unifying receiver (denoted by an orange star on the dongle). If you have a unifying keyboard, you use this video to pair them; they use a different app.

That’s a good question because I happen to have the K580 kid/track-mouse combo. The K580 has a universal dongle denoted by that little symbol on it. The non-unifying mouse dongles do not have that. If I get a chance, I will be at a location on 2/5 that has spare M171 dongles. I’ll try it with my K580 to see if it pairs. There is a different pairing utility that is for those universal dongle. Also, you can simply buy the dongle. I have seen those listings elsewhere.

You can install the Win10 version as it works fine on Win11. I can confirm that from personal use.

No, your keyboard mouse combo uses a unifying receiver, denoted by a little orange sun on the dongle. What you will need to do, besides having a unifying dongle and compatible keyboard and mice, is a different software app. I have a video on how to do that. It’s very similar, but it’s just a different application.

what do you mean though by non-unifying
The USB dongles with an orange logo on them are unifying receivers capable of pairing with multiple devices - they require a separate utility to pair. The non-unifying receivers can only pair with one kbd/mouse combo, and use the utility featured in this clip.

Did you transpose the last two letters intending to say you have a "Techno mouse", a gaming mouse? If it is, I wasn't able to find much about it on the web. Do you know the website for the maker of it? I am hoping they sell replacement USB dongles, or have software or a documented process for pairing the mouse to a new dongle. Still, you would need a USB dongle made for the mouse in question.

No, the utility is strictly for Logitech non-unifying dongles and their compatible keyboard & mice.

This is invalid!!! They seem to not have it any more. Just says ‘There are no downloads for this version’ and that’s as far as u can go. Even the ‘Windows’ selection drop down box has the 3 windows options (7, 8 & 10) greyed out. I’ve gone to the website on a Windows 11, 10 & a 7 computer and same thing.
Let me take a look at this later tonight.

Sir this does not work for me either, have used 2 different LT connection utility versions for windows for my logitech nano mouse with the original C- UBD58 nano receiver, tried 5 different times to no avail. all the spec info in right column is zeros do you have any info advice to fix this. Hey, it says there is no wireless receiver plugged into my computer, but it is, im using an m190.

The logitech M1 90 is a budget mouse coming in under $20, which surprise me is one that actually uses a unifying receiver. If you’re watching the video to your posting comment, that is one for non-unifying receivers.

It’s steps through nearly identical process, but uses a different utility designed for unifying receivers. Those are the ones with the little orange sun icon on them.
If by chance you use a non-unifying receiver, it won’t work with this mouse. you can buy a unifying receiver on Amazon and pair it with this mouse, put it will nearly cost whatever brand new mouse would cost $13.99, which is nearly the price of the M190 at $19.99.
why your macbook window
I don’t have a Windows laptop. I have a Win11 PC stick. I capture video on my MacBook using a USB-c video input and Barrier for keyboard & mouse. That’s why you see the MacOS desktop at times, but the Logitech app ride native on a pure Win11 system.
For me, it makes sense as it mimicks the functionality I had on my Intel MacBook Pro with a Native Win10 partition via Bootcamp that I could use on jobs that required Windows. I kept up a Parallels Desktop subscription to allow me to run the native Win10 partition concurrently with MacOS. Apple silicon does not support Bootcamp. While I need the advantages of the silicon architecture esp its amazing battery life, I could not do without native Windows. The PC stick gives me that benefit. I use it often.
The Logitech software keeps closing and it doesn’t work….
I have run it on Windows 10 & 11 on a laptop and on a virtual machine running atop MacOS Sonoma. What is your host operating system and PC? Maybe I can see if there’s a fix.
Also, if you haven’t done this in a while (or ever), delete the contents of the C:\Windows\Temp folder and reboot. Maybe something there is interfering with this app.

Yes, that is how I use it. I do it about every two weeks at a client site. They have scores of these keyboards in service so end up collecting mismatches.
You will need to select Win10 as the O/S to see the software download, but it runs just fine on Win11. I have run it on a Win11 laptop and a Win11 pocket PC - all successful.
I hate everything. First I tried plugging in the logitech dongle than The pc told me to restart and now it's not turning on again. Then I tried to download this utility on another PC and it Just won't find the dongle and i tried multiple Logitech dongles. Bruuuh
Well, it’s not good to hate everything :) What’s the model of the dongle and the mouse to which you seek to pair? Does the dongle have an orange sun icon on it? If so, that is a unifying receiver that uses the app for unifying receivers to pair.
Also, which Windows are you using? This proved we works on both 10 & 11, but I just want my facts straight.
Sadly it doesn't work anymore on Windows 11.
Why do you say that? I did this just last week using my Windows 11 Pocket PC, and it worked each time. I do add that while I was able to pair three keyboards and mice, two others did not work. It turned out to be the mice that went bad; the keyboards paired to the dongles in both of those cases.

I tried to use used mouses M185 and then I tried to use factory new also M185. Same effect.
@@Zarzol1990 I wonder if the type of USB port is an issue. There are times I have worked on systems where I had to connect to a slow USB 2.0 port (black color) because the super-speed (blue ports) didn't recognize slow dumb input devices.
I also carry around a janky USB 2.0 4-port hub partly for that reason as well.
Should Logitech recievers work with any Logitech keyboard\mouse, or are they unique to the the keyboard\mouse that they came with? I have a MK320 keyboard/mouse combo that's missing its reciever that I'm trying to get working. I have nine recievers with Logitech's name on them. I am using the Logitech connection utiltiy. The connection utility does not recognize over half of the recievers as even being Logitech, even though the recievers have Logitech's name on them. I'm on the verge of NEVER buying anymore wireless Logitech keyboard or mouse again.
The universal receivers have an orange-like logo on them. They require the utility for the universal receiver.
Aside from that distinction, I don’t know how successful the pairing process will be. The one location where I use this process has the same model mouse/keyboard combo and exact same dongle.
Does it work even on HP mouse?
Well, I haven’t tried that. I don’t believe it will simply because it’s a different manufacturer. The utility used to pair the non-original dongle to a mouse is for logitech non-unifying USB receivers and the mice they were designed to control.
That said, it won’t hurt anything to try. If it does work, do let me know. I bet there are a lot of others in that situation that would love such a solution. Always think out the box!

I bought a second hand keyboard which was working fine with a logi dongle but when I tried it in my computer it didn't work, and to pair it asks for the unifying dongle, which i don't have. I got it real cheap so it's not about the money, i just want to use it 😅
The ones I have used have been a keyboard & mouse that use a dongle. In that scenario, it appears to be the mouse that is the critical device because that's the only one I pair to the dongle. Once paired, both keyboard and mouse work with that dongle.
It's worth a try and see if the app in the video will do the trick for you.

Which model mouse are you trying to pair, and with which dongle?

Total waste of money. If your keyboard doesn't have the unifying logo on it, it won't work. And it won't unify different brands. Just buy the mouse and keyboard separately so you don't need this waste of money.
Not so. The keyboard, mouse, and dongle do pair, but they are all non-unifying. The unifying versions have their own utility to re-pair when the dongles get mixed and matched.
As for being a waste, that is probably the case in when the conditions are narrowed. Lots of companies buy these combos because they are functional and cheaper than the unifying variations.
