My first modern folder was a griptilian with s30v and FRN. I find the FRN actually the opposite of your thoughts on the G10 handle. With the rough jumping they are slightly uncomfortable for easy use but then lock in the harder I use it. I love the blade and even after many more knives this is the one I have the most confidence in when I have a hard day of work ahead of me.
Grips came in tons more steels! 440c, M2, D2, N680, x15, 154cm, and probably more. I've never been a huge fan (even before I started hating crossbar locks), but I've had a few. I still have the 20cv Spydiehole version, but I'm not sure I've even seen it in like 3 years.

Why do you say it's discontinued? There are several Griptilians still on their web site, and they're not on clearance at the knife vendors.
