  • TAXA TUESDAY 🌿
w/ the Florida Native Plant Society!
We are introducing a new twist to Terminology Tuesday! From here on, some Tuesdays will now be Taxa Tuesdays! On Taxa Tuesdays, we will choose a Florida native plant species, genus, or family to highlight and describe.
    Meet Apalachicola Wild Rosemary!
    Common name: Appalachicola Wild Rosemary
    Genus & species: Conradina glabra
    Family: Lamiaceae (mint family)
This federally Endangered species is an aromatic and compact evergreen shrub in the Lamiaceae family (mint family). As its common name suggests, it resembles the culinary rosemary, Salvia rosmarinus, in appearance and fragrance - although this species also has a hint of lavender aroma. It’s a delicious fragrance.
Conradina glabra is one of FIVE Conradina species endemic to Florida and it closely resembles the most common species; Conradina canescens. Conradina canescens also occurs in the region but has densely pubescent leaves rather than the glabrous leaves of C. glabra.
What do we mean when we say “Taxa Tuesday”?
    TAXON/TAXA:
A taxon refers to any group (or individual) at any level within the taxonomic ranking system. This could be a species, genus, family, order, or any individual or group. Taxa is plural for taxon. Thanks for tuning in! 👋🏻

How lovely and exciting! (And how I wish I'd had the foresight early in life to do what it took to have your job!) Thanks for posting this video!

Thanks for the video! Is there a place to purchase seeds or propagations? We have a fast growing garden full of endangered native plants.
