WOW...that was SO easy to understand. For me it's always better to watch (moreso than read directions) but some videos go so fast and are packed with tip upon tip that the basic idea is lost. This is a perfect to the point, precise, easy to follow, easy to understand, and very easy to follow given the logic of what and why. EXCELLENT...I thank you!
you are an amazing teacher. I find you to be very efficient, well spoken and knowledgeable. no extra Chit Chat or condescending kindergarten teacher speech. you cut to the chase and tell us what we need to know. With high regard.
Hi Denise, I'm getting ready to start a baby blanket and am starting with a chain cast on. I want the end of the blanket to match the beginning. I assume there is a chain cast off? If so, how is this done? Do you have a video on this? Thanks so much! Maria
+Jesus' Warrior In the End Times Hi Maria, I do not but there are several - here is a list www.google.com/webhp?sourceid=chrome-instant&ion=1&espv=2&ie=UTF-8#q=chain%20cast%20off%20loom
I was about to ask the same thing - glad I read the comments! I'm doing a flat scarf with the chain cast on using blanket yarn and I am SUPER happy with how its turning out. Very flat, no curling, and I am hoping that I can keep the finished end even :)
The last scarf I made I used this method of casting on and I love it ! It makes such a clean straight edge and it's not to tight but then when I finished my scarf and did the cast off I did the modified basic cast off and although it also gives a straight clean edge it was different looking than the other edge it was too tight and didn't really match the other side . My question is , do you think if I used the single crochet cast off it would look mor like the chain cast on ? I watched a few videos and it looks like it would look pretty similar. What do you think ? Dawn
+dawn Amendola Hi - I normally use a regular e-Wrap cast-on and then just tighten my loose loops - that matches the modified basic VERY well. Here is the post www.loomahat.com/modified-basic-bind-off/
Hi there, do you have a video to tell how its different between each type of cast on and which project to use with? I'm a new to this area and a bit confuse like e-wrap cast on etc. thanks :)
Freshdeeee Here is a video from Good Knit Kisses that may be helpful. ua-cam.com/video/RRTfCeiHbVk/v-deo.html .. as far as which cast-on for which project. I would suggest following patterns that tell you which cast-on for now until you get more experience. Here is a list of over 100 FREE Patterns: www.loomahat.com/round-loom/
thanks for the tutorial! i am fairly new to my knitting loom and crocheting, and was wondering if you recommend metal, wood or plastic crochet hooks? I have metal ones right now and my yarn tends to slip off of my hooks. Any suggestions?
I use the crochet hooks very little - For video I try to use the one that will fit the yarn and show up the best - but I prefer the metal because I like that they feel stronger - sometimes the plastic feels like it's going to break. I just got some bamboo - very pretty - feel good - but I haven't used them yet. I believe they're about to become my favorite as long as they don't mess with my yarn.
Alice, for this cast on, you might want a plastic or bamboo hook to have a little more "grip" to keep the yarn from falling off but, for crocheting, having good glide is important, especially as you improve and pick up speed. For plastic hooks, over a size 6.5mm (which you'll need for bulkier yarns), Clover Amour makes wonderfully smooth plastic hooks that are lightweight. I've tried other plastic hooks and nothing compares to the smoothness of the Clover Amour (Hobby Lobby sells these and Joann sells them in some sizes). I know that, if you are just learning, you might have some slippage but, as I say, as you get more familiar, you will appreciate the glide. The very best hooks I've found are Tulip Etimo hooks (only available on Amazon that I can find) - they glide like silk through even rough yarns. But, apparently the Clover Soft Touch (and possibly Clover Amour) are a good second choice and are available more readily. The soft touch are also available at some Joann and Hobby Lobby Stores (and Amazon too). I concur that metal ones are the strongest; however, I can't imagine the Clover Amour hooks breaking easily (they are a higher quality plastic than the Boye plastic hooks).
Am new to knitting. I've only done a few things with the e-wrap. My question might be dumb. Is the cast on stitch only to begin a project or can it be used for the whole project itself?
I love the chain cast on but I find that as my project continues off the loom my chain starts to loosen up. How can I prevent this? Am I pulling too tight when I'm casting on?
Porscha Williams To prevent loose loops you have to use bulky yarn or get a small gauge loom. Here is a video on how to fix those loops : ua-cam.com/video/27xAJKBv37c/v-deo.html
Hello, I would like to know if anyone knows of a site where you sell these loom pins separately. I need to reposition more. I can not find, can anyone help me?
Thank you for the videos. I am using LoomaHat videos at my Golden Hour Senior Center in Green River Wyoming. We made over three hundred hats for our humanitarian project . www.sweetwaternow.com/golden-hour-senior-center-sewing-group-knits-hats-truman-elementary-students/ This was our first project. Our second project was for the Child Development Center. We are now interested in learning to make Afghans for our people who can no longer get out of their homes. We would like to use the stitches you are teaching to make 20, 12 inch blocks and sew them together into an afghans. We have two questions. First can we use our large gauged round looms we have or should we use the loom you use on the videos for the best results? Second What edging would be best for example the e-wrap cast on with the modified bind off. or the chain cast on with the crochet cast off with the crochet hook. Thank you again for your wonderful videos.
