I'm in my late 40s and still love it. My younger brother and I used to stay up really late just to watch it. We'd be absolutely knackered in school, the following day. Good memories.
a mates school had sent letters to parents , asking them not to let their kids stay up so late to watch prisoner as the kids were falling asleep in class, and playing out roles from the programme. A classic of classics.
Can't believe it's over 25 years since I watched this, when TV showed classic programmes, life was so different when I was young, always loved prisoner, especially this final episode.
Yes, you're right. However, ITV and it's regional variations did give a lot of viewers of Prisoner a poor deal when it was being shown as Val Lehman has said. She also pointed out the inconsistencies in the scheduling around the UK regions and the tampering of certain episodes. It may all be old hat now, and this is certainly not meant to be any stain on the nostalgia, but it is with thanks to years of campaigning that fans wishes finally paid off. I have to point out that some DVD releases still contain cut scenes from certain episodes which have been subject to tape deterioration and lawful cases of copyright. UA-cam contains full versions of all 692 episodes thanks to PrisonerCellBlockH95 making the show an online treasure, but for how long is anyone's guess.
ELLA HORNBY Yes, there needs to be a new release of the whole series on DVD without edited scenes, due to tape deterioration, or copyright reasons, if they can find those better quality master tapes out there. Some episodes up to episode 165 have been blocked on UA-cam, despite a few episodes before then slipping through the net. The Emily Perry poisoning case would be no problem in Australia now as she died some years back after Shock released a DVD of the Edna Pearson Story and with permission of Fremantle. 😃 The only problem is with that release is that episode 470 is missing a scene, but apart from that all of the episodes in that DVD release are intact. 😃😊👍🏻
Summer21 Thanks for the feedback there Summer. We know this is a VHS tape recording of the final broadcast on Scottish, and it’s great nostalgia. The UA-cam versions from PrisonerCellBlockH95 have been great and uncut, but I wonder how much longer it will be before Fremantle begin blocking more episodes beyond 165.

I always thought how ironic it was that Ferguson stole the cash so she'd escape the grueling and depressing life of being in a prison for so much of her life yet doing so meant she ended up back in jail and this time she was unable to leave. Also felt it was ironic that Ferguson wanted the money to get away from the prison job when she reveled in it and loved the power and authority. It was her life.

Anyone noticed how 'Wentworth' (brilliantly, in its dying embers as it sadly heads towards its last 15 or so episodes) has several key character names in common with Prisoner's last episode? I know Wentworth was a 'reimagining', but you've got to see some Merle in Boomer (character-wise) and the way she hates Ferguson. And the fact we now have Ann Reynolds. And a doctor studying inmates. And two sniffing about cops. And Rita Connors escaping and Mr Jackson being sympathetic to inmates all over the place but struggling with his own being. A double dealing officer Mr Adams (maybe a few Smiles to be had here) and a certain Kath Maxwell enters the plot? If you're unfamiliar with Prisoner: Cell Block H, its very last episode is iconic. Rita Connors realises her cancer isn't terminal. The ultimate beater. Joan Ferguson ends up incarcerated and a certain....Kath Maxwell becomes top dog! Twists and turns, twists and turns!
