    Wow! Had a problem with the fabric bunching up after the needle and I don’t have much experience with a serger. Mine is an older model than yours. It was the bottom knife that was too low! I raised it and it fixed the problem! Thank you for mentioning this!

    I had the first problem: serger just stopped making stitches and all I saw were 4 long threads. I had to just remove every thread then finally learned to thread it using my manual. I've always just pulled it through 😁 It's working great now. Thank you. 🙏

    Left needle thread keeps snapping.
    I had this problem with my Brother 3034 and, to put it politely, I was not happy. Anyway, I rethreaded it a number of times, changed the needles and still no luck. After a load of frustration I decided to change the threads for someting completely different and IT WORKED!!
    This was something that I didn't think would affect the machine as I'd not heard it mentioned in the 'problem solving' videos I've watched but I would say that it's worth gining it a go and seeing what happens - if poss try using a high quality thread to test the machine as this will help either resolve the issue or remove thread type as the issue.
    I would also say that corectly threading the machine is a must and this is not always easy to do when the instruction you have are not clear.
    I hope this helps.

    My 1034d's knife release flip won't move to the left (intended to release the knife). I opened the cover to see inside and flip can't move because something's blocking. Do you know what's wrong?

    The best advice i can give as a seamstress is before you thread your machine, just run it and watch what it does. Do this with all your machines. I learned so much about industrial machines, in the beginning by just watching the bobbin and needle interact.
    When i got my serger I did the same thing, just watched it run for a bit, then when i threaded it, I would turn the hand wheel to see what that thread was doing and where it was going.
    You might need to take some pieces off to see it all, but thats also good to do, being able to fix your machine when shes acting up is priceless. I've taken apart so many sewing machines at this point I'm pretty comfortable fixing just about any issues that crop up now.
    When you're ready get some scrap fabric and test all the settings on the machine, its the best way to know how things are going to work with different types of fabric.

    • @seasonallyproductive
      @seasonallyproductive  4 місяці тому +1

      That's great advise! So much simpler if we can learn to do maintenance ourselves. And the basic mechanics of sewing machines really isn't all that complicated

    • @seasonallyproductive
      @seasonallyproductive  3 роки тому +2

      It sounds like a tension issue and could be the way all the threads are interacting, not just the needle threads. I would consult your manual for recommended settings and diagrams

    • @seasonallyproductive
      @seasonallyproductive  3 роки тому

      I would make sure it's being installed all the way up to the top of the needle holder, then check that it's not hitting a knife or looper (could be a time issue) and then make sure the thread isn't caught somewhere causing severe tension on the needle. Good luck!

    • @geoffsm100
      @geoffsm100 3 роки тому

      Hi, as well as ensuring that the needle is installed correctly, make sure you thread it in the order indicated by the manufacturer. Also take a look at UA-cam video s about your machine. You could try a slightly larger needle and good quality thread. Thread tension can also cause threads or needles to break. Hope this helps.

    When threading an OLD Singer Serger, that silver thing on top with a hole in it, do you just go through the hole from the back, or from the back and wrap around to go through the hole? My 4 thread stitch, when I sew two pieces, when I sew two pieces, and I try to get the seam flat and centered on the back, the treads on the front become exposed and look like a ladder. Please HELP as I can’t afford to take the machine in.

    • @seasonallyproductive
      @seasonallyproductive  2 роки тому

      That sounds like the needle tension needs to be adjusted and/or the needle threads aren't correctly in the tension discs. As for the silver thing, I thread it from front to back and then bring it back to the front through the groove and into the tension discs

    My Pfaff 4862 is new to me, and after recently having paid for general servicing to fix the timing, I have sewn for about 10 hours on it. Now my presser foot lift lever on the side is loose and won’t engage and lift the presser foot. Would hate to have to pay for another service. Any suggestions?

    • @seasonallyproductive
      @seasonallyproductive  3 роки тому

      I would ask for a warranty check since you just took it in for servicing. It sounds like something is disconnected inside so if the shop won't look at it for free then you could take the side off and see if there's something obviously out of place

      I would first check the cord. Unplug all ends and us them back in, making sure it's all tight. If that doesnt solve the problem, then it is likely the wiring in either the pedal or the receiving port. A technician would be able to tell you which - or if you have another pedal that fits into the port you could try that

    My serger gets jammed after 3 uses. I get charged 100. USD every time I take it in. So I only use it for the items I'm making...about 4. I have no more money.
    The threaded looper needles get missaligned due to tension or thick material (Janome 1110DX). I stop it as soon as I can but sometimes that is too late.
    I wish someone who has experienced this could help me and show ne what I am doing wrong. They don't have a book for repairs.
    My Bernina activa 135 S, sewing machine needs a new spring. I was cleaning it and I accidently snagged and pulled out the spring underneath. Since I cant get my hands on a REPAIR manual, I cannot tell which spring it is. They only make 2, so I can buy both. My maching casing must be sealed because there are no screws to remove. ...yet, if I take it in, 1. They wont say HOW they opened it and 2. It coet 125. USD to put it back...with NO other services ie. cleaning or oiling (since your supposed to do that youeself). I can't find a school or class in machine repair. 😮 I guess it is a closed, exclusive, good-o'l-boy community.

      I don't know that there is a standard. It will depend on the machine itself, as well as the fabric being used. I would check that the tension discs are completely clean (I use floss) and that the threads are sitting properly between the discs. Then I would test several times, making adjustments to one dial at a time until I get the desired outcome.

I tested it made some adjustments to the tension dials. I started getting really nice seams then I shut it off. I decided I wanted to check out how it did on a single layer of fabric. I did fine then I did another test of 2 layers and my threads started getting all messed up. Hi just wondering what's up with my machine when I thread it up and do a chain it does a good chain but as soon as I add fabric it's like it doesn't stich fabric at all then threads break? Can't understand why it's fine without the fabric, any help appreciated. Thanks

    • @seasonallyproductive
      @seasonallyproductive  2 роки тому

      My 1st thought would be to rethread from scratch, making sure you're following the correct order. Typically sergers are 3, 4, 1, 2 for thread order. Ensure nothing is being caught anywhere.

    i have a older babyloc 5280E my problem is the chaining tongue keeps breaking on me. I have been trying to get the tension correct and not there yet either. But my biggest issue is I have replaced the chaining tongue 3 times and wonder why when the needles go down it hits the chaining tongue. I did purchase the correct needles for the serger because it does'nt use just the regular sewing machine needle. I am so frustrated, please help

      Oh no! That sounds super frustrating. I don't have experience with that exact issue, but I would say if your needles are brand new and straight and still hitting pieces then something is out of whack. I'd be taking it into the repair shop if it was me

    My serger was fine I just took it in for a cleaning and he told me I needed new blades and that’s where the problem started. I never had it chew up any fabric and now it just wants to chew up fabric I cannot adjust my stitch width unless I do some tinkering. I’m not really confident he has the blade in the correct position either. It’s not too bad when I know what I have adjusted or touched on my machine but when someone else monkeys on it I have no idea where to start. So frustrating!! He also said my timing was off which I didn’t see any evidence of. Now I really think the timing is off!

      Oh boy, that is frustrating! The knives are fairly easily adjusted (on my machine, anyway). They have a little notch in them to see where they align on the machine. If that doesn't help, I would take it to a different repair person, if possible.

      Thank you for taking the time to reply☺️. Yes next time I’ll replace my own blades. Since I posted that comment I discovered that the blade assembly isn’t returning back to a lesser width when I dial it closer. It seems something is sticking … for wider stitch widths it moves to the right but when I turn the knob to come back to a narrower stitch width I have to push it back. I bought this second hand and not from a Jenome dealer. I definitely will be trying to find someone else.

      What order are you threading? Most machines are upper looper, lower looper, right needle, left needle. Seems silly, but it could be the cause. I would also check that the thread isn't wrapped around the spool holder, or anywhere else.

    I'm am so stressed because of my singer serger lol. I just bought it and it is threaded correctly because it makes the chain tail, but whenever I try to feed my fabric through, the thread tail doesn't move through?? Unless I have to constantly pull the tail while my fabric is going through? It keeps jamming and I see a ton of thread gathered at the start of my fabric and then the serger stops. Like I'm only sewing not even an inch of fabric before it stops. My fabric isn't bunching because my fabric has barely even made it through lol
