    Easiest thing to do is just take 42-26 and get 16. Then you do the a12-a8 which is a4. 16/4 = 4. Therefore d = 4 and then you just plug the d in for the equation to find the a1 or whatever you need. This works for every single equation about finding the d.

      A1= 145. A5= 113
      145-113= 32
      5-1=4
      32/4= 8
      The answer is supposed to be 5

      I think that your problem didn't work for phantoms way of solving it because you were given the wrong answer. Because if you multiply 4 by 5 because A1 to A5 is 5 spots and you are supposed to subtract 1 so 4 times 5 ,which is the answer you said you were given, you get 20. And that doesn't make sense because 145-20=125 not 113 also by subtracting 5 from 145 you can never get 113, no matter how many times you subtract it. In conclusion, you were given the wrong solution.
      Ps: I am only writing this to study for a test I have, and this is practice for me
