TRYING a REAL PACZKI in POLAND.

  • Day 2 in Katowice and I've got a new buzz haircut. So why not go and try the real Polish King of sweets, the Paczki, while I'm in Poland. I found I place with 3 Polish Grandma's working, so you know that it has to be good. I tried both a Paczki and another Polish sweet. They were both heavenly, much better than the ones in America. After saying goodbye to the Polish Babcia's , I was off to explore the city. I walked to a park where I met this young man who left Ukraine to come to Poland. He had a moving story to tell and he told me that his dream was to come to the USA. After hearing his story, I was quite moved. I wished him the best and assured him that Poland was a good country for him. I'm having an amazing trip so far.

Some people are thinking that Poland is a country of vodka (it can be true) but in reality, it's a country of hundreds of different types of bread.

Pączek is singular, pączki is plural (2-4), pączków /ponczkuff/ is also plural (starting with 5).

In the USA we simply say Paczki or Paczki's and it's pronounced very differently. There is nothing like eating a Paczek in Poland. It's so much better. Thanks for letting me know Katarzyna. 🙏🇵🇱

If you ever happen to be in Poznań you have to try our local delicacy ,the St. Martin's croissant (Rogal Świętomarciński). Only certified pastry producers / shops are allowed to bake that croissant. At Saint Martin's day at the 11 November pastry shops in Poznań sell around 250 ton of the St. Martin's croissant. The entire city of Poznań (600K citizens) eats all day long St. Martin's croissant's.
The 11th November is also Poland's Independence Day and we have a saying in Poznań "Make rogals, not war" which was created to counteract against the overtaking of the celebration of the Independence Day in Warsaw by ultra-nationalists.

Polecam. Jesteś sympatycznym facetem, więc czekam na kolejne vlogi.

Name 'drożdżówka' comes from the word 'drożdże' which means yeast 😃 and yes, you can get them with many different fillings and also without any filling, only with icing and crumble topping.
When it comes to pączki, the most traditional are with rose jam, but I know around 20 different fillings. Also, there are different toppings. The most popular are icing and powdered sugar, but you can also get some with chocolate.

For the est zki in Katowice go to Słowik which is almost below Skarbek shopping gallery (bland blue building just at the main square, around 150-200 meters behind you when you exited the bakery). I love their chalva filling. But Michalski is well-known bakery in Katowice with tradition, not a bad choice either.
