    The katana does have better quick draw capability. But as a martial technique, its not very practical. It would be like teaching Marines to focus on how to quick draw their pistols. Its highly unlikely they would ever need to use that skill in wartime. And of course the quickdraw based artforms like battojutsu and iai came about as a novelty during an era of peace when bored soldiers were sitting around trying to figure out what other possible uses these three foot long razor blades could be used for.

      No,it wasn't a novelty. Even though there was no war between clans anymore, doesn't mean there wasn't any conflict. There were those who still held a gruge at the shogun, not to mention if you were able to assassinate a samurai it was still a big deal, so it was practical, it just turned into another way of defending them selves.

      yeah this take completely negates the reality of surprise attacks in the early edo period
      post sengoku would have been a very intense time and i can only imagine how many people were out for blood

    What is the name of this belt that is used to put the katana and wakizashi, can you use a judo or jiu-jitsu belt for this function?

    • @gargoylesblade
      @gargoylesblade  Місяць тому +1

      @0MTH2HRS3EYES9 it's called a Kaku obi belt there either 2 inches wide, or 3 inches wide. Mine is a 3 inch wide, I've seen people use judo belt, the problem is, you can only put one sword in it,were the obi belt makes layers around you to separate the swords . Amazon carries them, ones you tie yourself, and ones that are already tied. When it comes to tieing the obi belt, there different ways to do it,so you can find one that suits you. Hopefully this answer your question and was helpful.
