What is the name of this belt that is used to put the katana and wakizashi, can you use a judo or jiu-jitsu belt for this function?
@0MTH2HRS3EYES9 it's called a Kaku obi belt there either 2 inches wide, or 3 inches wide. Mine is a 3 inch wide, I've seen people use judo belt, the problem is, you can only put one sword in it,were the obi belt makes layers around you to separate the swords . Amazon carries them, ones you tie yourself, and ones that are already tied. When it comes to tieing the obi belt, there different ways to do it,so you can find one that suits you. Hopefully this answer your question and was helpful.
Why do I feel like if Samurai had tank tops in the Sengoku era they would were them because I'm not going to lie the combination of the hakama pants with the tank top is fire
it’s very fire
@outlawsamurai47 yeah I've would have put on my dogi, but it's in the triple digits here.
@@gargoylesblade I get that
Great vid gargoyle I thought you didn't watch skall though I could be wrong either way great vid brother
@outlawsamurai47 nope I watch skallagrim, have for for long time.
@@gargoylesblade ok great vid bro
@outlawsamurai47 thank you outlaw
Great vid Gargoyle. I thought skall did a great job with that one too.
@@SpaceGhost182 for sure
The katana does have better quick draw capability. But as a martial technique, its not very practical. It would be like teaching Marines to focus on how to quick draw their pistols. Its highly unlikely they would ever need to use that skill in wartime. And of course the quickdraw based artforms like battojutsu and iai came about as a novelty during an era of peace when bored soldiers were sitting around trying to figure out what other possible uses these three foot long razor blades could be used for.
No,it wasn't a novelty. Even though there was no war between clans anymore, doesn't mean there wasn't any conflict. There were those who still held a gruge at the shogun, not to mention if you were able to assassinate a samurai it was still a big deal, so it was practical, it just turned into another way of defending them selves.
yeah this take completely negates the reality of surprise attacks in the early edo period post sengoku would have been a very intense time and i can only imagine how many people were out for blood
i like the double edge for the katana it might come in handy lets say if the front side is too chipped or nicked you can use the back side as a back up
The kogarasu is a fun one for sure, and you do have an advantage with the back being sharp, the back side just isn't as sharp as the front, but it will definitely cut someone
My siwode was great for the price. Outlaws got her now.
One thing I will say though is there are a lot more things at play than just furniture at higher price ranges. While originally made fittings are nice, balance, edge geometry, weight, pob, and fit and finish are all more important to me. While I loved my siwode for a 118 dollar sword, I would not have loved it at 300. There are certain things that are undeniably done better in higher price ranges, if there weren't those price ranges would cease to exist. My dragon King at 400 blew my siwode out of the water in every way, my Z-Sey blew my dragon King away. You get what you pay for with hand crafted items imo.
True, but you can still get a bad sword even at that price range, I have a 400 dollar katana, and it's not going to make to the list, for great handling sword.
I am also a firm believer in you get what you pay for. That being said, I have a Huawei that is in the $800 range and it's a bit cumbersome. Not too bad but you definitely know your handling something significant over an unokubi zukuri. 99% of the time when you pay more money for a katana you get a better product. In my experience anyway
@@gargoylesblade i agree with karl. Ive had less budget katana problems on swords ive paid more for.
will it rub off the Hamon line if you sharpen it on the Whetstone stone?
@hunterriemer5089 it will, so you have to use a really fine stone to bring it back out,the process takes a while to do.
honestly i don't like color blades i'm not saying there are bad but i just don't want something just made for looks is all
@@hunterriemer5089 agree, personally I like the more traditional look, with a nice polish
Nice cutting!😁
@armoredsweatpants3997 thank you armor
You definitely got me interested in getting one of those unakubi zukuri style swords. I keep a non-bohi sword for training myself to be comfortable with the weight difference (as insignificant as that sounds), but I have grown comfortable with the standard bohi style blade - it moves around a whole lot easier after handling the non-bohi sword for several minutes. Thanks for another awesome, insightful and descriptive video. These are, by far, my favorite style of video format that you do. And one day, when you get "sword famous," the high-dollar sword sellers will send you free samples to "review," and your opinions will then be bought and paid for.. I know I probably would.. Just like Matthew Jensen, just like Joe Steel.. But until then, I will continue to appreciate the considerable value of your experience and opinions. And yeah, Siwode hasn't gotten nearly the publicity (or credit) that they deserve. Thousand dollar swords are just ridiculous. I could point at a dozen different (and better) ways to spend several hundred dollars.. That's just "rich people folley," right there.. But still, I'm glad they do it, because (ultimately) the rest of us benefit from the innovation of capitalism.
@user-tp9gy8kt2q thank you for the kind words, it's funny how all other channels will do high end swords, which is fine, but not everyone can afford that, and that is why I will always look for good or great swords that others get,and enjoy. Yes siwode doesn't get the credit it deserves for sure. Unokubi are great to get and very nimble.
Good overview of those brands. Just a suggestion for the cutting, as I know you want to expand your channel. Perhaps you may not have the skill level of some of these trick cutters out here, but you gotta do something more than single filled bottles. We know almost all swords can be sharpened and cut a water bottle. It's just the same thing every time, and its a pretty low skill/unimpressive feat...and its just not very exciting to watch for viewers. I'm not at all trying to put you down, but maybe try to add some complexity, novelty, difficultly level, stunts to the cutting demos. (Jensen cuts teddy bears and shaving cream canisters, for example, lol.)
Thank you for the suggestion ,I normally try to do double, but I have to resurface the tops of my cutting stand first.
Prepared survivalist, Matthew Jensen is GIVEN a lot of those swords.. I'm sure that LOTS of content creators would be more adventurous with targets and swords if someone dropped off a ton of them to choose from..
@@user-tp9gy8kt2q Yea, but I mean these are hundred dollar swords and you could just use one or two of them for the more ambitious cutting demos. And its not like you have to go hog wild on rebar stakes. You could maybe just cut some doubles or different target mediums.
..Glad you have such an easy time justifying the budget expenditures of other content creators, "PS." But YOUR channel doesn't exactly sport a "vast" budget either.. ..And if I ever need to view an 8 y/o video on how to skin a squirrel, or roll up some toilet paper, I know exactly where to start looking.. I didn't notice ANY "inexpensive" samurai sword related videos within your inventory..
@@user-tp9gy8kt2q I apparently mistakenly thought I was responding to gargoyleblades previously. But yea, we're not going to do the whole "I went to your page because thats the only thing i can try to do to dig up dirt on you, and then take a picture or video from your page and throw it back in your face to prove how bad you are and how clever I am." However, if you must know, I have many katana, for whatever thats worth.
siwode makes such a fucking good sword
They do,and really sharp out of the box
SON can be a hit or miss at times but when they get it right...they get them great...one of my favorites is an SON...good stuff

Great picks!, I was a big S.O.N. Fan, we have 2 in the house and they are awesome, it’s a shame about their pricing, I too have switched to Honbon.

Yeah man I'm so glad for your input on Hanbon. When I thought Hanbon was a step down from Sinosword/Jkoo and wouldn't even entertain the thought of buying one from them, I did and was absolutely blown away at the quality. 👍🏻
If you were a pretty Lady I could see down your blouse LOL
Thanks for another awesome little show-and-tell video. I appreciate the effort with the new camera, to show us more detailed views of your awesome sword collection. I'm another happy member of the Siwode fan club. I WILL get another one.. I don't yet own anything T10 or 1095, and I don't yet have anything sporting that bizarre wickerwork sageo, or that groovy Ito wrap.. Siwode ain't afraid of a splash of color either..
@user-tp9gy8kt2q definitely when you can,get a siwode with the jabara-maki wrap, way different feel for sure. Thank you for watching, much appreciated.
Hey GB, has anyone confirmed who owns (or is related to) Siwode? Like, Onikiri has some collaboration with Musashi, who owns Musha. I have dealt with all three of them and have been satisfied with their products - but knowing that they regularly worked together did help put my natural suspicions to ease.
@user-tp9gy8kt2q I'm not sure, maybe something I'll look into
Very nice blade ❤
Thank you John it is much appreciated.
Very cool, looks like a nice sword😁
@armoredsweatpants3997 thank you armor, they are very nice swords
Such a cool piece
@Katana-Karl it certainly is, love the ito wrap done on these.
Like how they did the ito and sageo. You don't see that often.
@preparedsurvivalist2245 siwode is the only sword company I know that does and for under 200 dollars, can't beat it.
What would be the sharpness on the blade you worked on? Can I achieve razor sharp with 1000 grit?
You can achieve that with a 1000 grit stone, a good quality one.it doses take a little bit of work to get it,I personally use a 1000 grit kuromaku stone and a leather strop.my sharpness level I'd say is perty good, but I don't bring my edges to a razor neither, the edge doesn't stay that sharp after a bit, when cutting mats and bottles.
