I’ve seen people misinterpret the Chozo statue being destroyed to mean Diggernaut had a grudge against the Chozo. The actual reason it was destroyed is shown when you look at the outline of the tunnel that goes off into the background: The statue was just *in the way*.
And here we meat our resident Nightmare for the game. A creepy boss with a signature sound effect that you never get a good look at till you fight it several hours later, in which it has destroyed the area it's occupying, and it's also INFURIATINGLY HARD!
this is amazing because you can clearly see at 0:40 that the diggernaut was just being curious when watching samus, it is only until she charges the beam and threatens him that you can see his red eye glows stronger and he makes a kind of subtle surprise gesture, then he gets pissed off... samus be like american police, shoot first ask questions later
well. in samus's world you have aliens who suck the living life out of you and have monsters trying to kill you just for your flesh. So her first move was to threaten. I think thats fair.
I just spent maybe 30-40 minutes trying to pass this and jesus christ If it weren't for the checkpoints spawning you at the chase portion where you died, I'd have straight up ragequit the whole game tbh
I died 1 to 3 times at various points because I was trying to understand what was going on. But at 3:20, that grappling was easy enough, but trying to fire upward and climb through that hole before Diggernaught one hit killed me, was impossible for at least 4 times that I can remember. No it didn't take me 15-40 tries to beat this area like other people and I'm impressed that it took me about at most 10 tries (more likely less, but I just can't remember), but damn it, if I couldn't just PASS that part fast enough. I mean in the video, if Samus was just off by half a second or a second, Samus would've died, getting to that crossover was an absolute pain in my ass. The reason it was so difficult was because of all of the branching paths one could take, I didn't know which way was the fastest (stuck to one however), trying to grapple jump while in midair is especially difficult for me for some reason, I have a hard time aiming at the grapple blocks swing, then aim and grapple without landing, there's no easy way to do it unlike other similar games with similar game aspects where swing jumping is actually easy since it doesn't require accurate precision, just push a button swing, push a button, push another button, and so on and so forth, am I missing some automatic grappling technique because trying to hold the L button while aiming with the circle pad while in midair and also having to smash a button is incredibly difficult for me. After the grappling part, again more branched paths, and when you're uncertain what to take if you take it, just slows down Samus, the grappling at 3:17 was difficult because Samus was slow, getting to the 3:20 grappling was relatively easy in comparison, but not before taking too long trying to shoot upwards and climb over that last ledge that if you beat diggernaut, you beat the section of the game (unless you don't reach the small alcove in time, which wasn't my issue), although I was absolutely worried about what I was supposed to do next because only the small alcove doesn't seem to lead anywhere but I stayed there and found out I beat the section, which was a huge relief to me. Absolutely frustrating, difficult controls on top of precise controls, too many branching paths, VERY LITTLE room to make any errors, you can't even hesitate or you get screwed over, and the cherry on top, you get hit once you die regardless, there's no knockback from the enemy/boss, as it recoups a little and goes back for more giving you a little more time to fix your mistakes, you immediately die, instantaneously the moment its DAMN drill hits you. It was the most frustrating part of the whole game. Thankfully for me at least, I stuck to my plan of memorizing what I had to do, to make it fairly easy for me in the end, just that half second delay and you can't get over that final ledge where you actually can get distance between you and diggernaut and reach that small alcove was just a pain in my ass for at least 4 times.
After seeing this video I am going into serious practise with the touch screen mechanics. Just so I am a little better prepared when I meet this nightmare later in the game. If the metroids are giving me problems then this thing is going to kick my butt a lot.
LOL, I'm playing this after playing Dread. Totally agree. Also, there are sections of this game where little robots make an extremely similar bleeping noise to an EMMI, and it gives me PTSD every time.
God damn i loved this part. You free the thing not sure what exactly the consequences of your actions will be, and it just walks away creepily. But then it comes back unexpectedly to wreak havoc on you. It's heartpounding and truly tests your skills. One of my fav additions to the game in this remake. The eventual bossfight was slightly frustrating, though. A little obtuse on how to defeat him in the final phase, though it was still hella fun.
Can we just talk about how terrifying this thing is? Like seriously, the glaring, unblinking red eye and the horrific array of teeth it has make this thing a living nightmare both gameplay-wise and conceptually.

That third segment was hard, spent 15~20 minutes trying. I had to remember to use the grapple beam, and didn't use spider ball. Was a good challenge though. :)
I remember getting to this part, I ending up freeing it from it's imprisonment, it looks like it, but then it was being a real jerk, like I couldn't understand why it was attacking me, it should be grateful, but then I probably just disturbed it's sleep and it became pissed at me.
Tamamo No Mae i don't think it's necessarily pissed per se, it's probably just rogue. Edit: look at the robot when Samus preps her charge beam, its eye glows more intensely, meant to imply the robot sees her as a threat. It's not pissed off, it's just acting according to the security part of its programming
Try using the touch screen. I just tapped w/ my thumb and I beat it on the first attempt. I never died to the one part that tricks you because I was using spider ball, but other than that there's no real tricks.
For those who are used to not using the Graple Beam much in a Metroid game...............OH NO, THAT DOESN'T HAPPEN IN THIS GAME, YOU GET AN EVEN AMOUNT OF ITEM USEAGE ! This ain't your old mama's SR388.
The only thing I will give this boss fight is it’s guarding one of the best power ups in the game, so they reward you quite well for managing to escape from this thing.
Omg. Just came back to the game after months and got to this part. I wish it started you all the way over cuz I forgot the controls and just couldn't get the last grapple bits to work and when I did they would snap me back, like in this vid. Then I got reacquainted with controls and no prob, except I kept forgetting to blow up the roof at the end b4 the final run. Died a bit, but still fun part. Oh yeah.. I'm "old" and my left hand hurts now.
The only time I died was to see if Diggernaut one hit KO's you. The last part is surprising, but as long as you keep the grapple beam on, it's rather simple. As long as you stay calm, you'll be fine. It's a neat twist on the typical escape, with horizontal platforming vs. vertical platforming used in Metroid and Zero Mission in particular. Personally, I found his actual boss fight much more difficult
I really don't understand why people hated this section. It definitely not the hardest thing this game has to offer(not saying it’s easy, even Ben Stevens died to the first escape segment) and the game gives you all the tools you need to succeed. I'm just gonna chalk all of this up to people not reading Item descriptions( i.e you don't have to press down twice to morph ball, you can just tap the touch screen and you never have to equip the grapple beam since you can just free aim at a grapple point and it will activate the grapple beam) and salty kids that can't handle somewhat high pressure situations in video games.
When you fuck up and have no room to correct yourself and it kills you instantly yeah, big problem. However unlike others it didn't take me 20 tries, probably at most 5-10 tries (don't remember. might have been less), but it was a pain in the ass to be thrust into it, without warning, and noticing that your timing had to be perfect, perfect grappling, perfect morph ball bomb explosions, otherwise if you screwed up you'd die IMMEDIATELY because there was no room for error. I understand people would be upset, even if it took me less tries than some of the people in the comments. It was very frustrating.
Buttlet i appreciate the printers next time tty to b kinder in the future ok not everyone is a born abd bred ninja u gotta understand easy for u can easily b nightmarishly hsrd for someone else like the final boss of mondter lab i couldn't beat it nomatter what parts i put together what monstervi made til finally i found the perfect combination tgat tore that abomination apart literally lol i cackled like crazy after that tyat was thrilling hard won victory but i bet there wer people like u that found it extremely easy
I don't know what everyone is complaining about. The last few metroids (the omegas? I can't remember which type they are) are harder than this segment. Also, a few tips: Samus runs faster than she rolls so you could have saved us all some time here, there are several points where you can open paths just by shooting your beam instead of bombing them, you can aim down while standing still with the L button so no need to jump to shoot missiles at the floor, and you also don't need to manually switch to the grapple beam if you use L. Just saying, if you want to optimize the run at all
Yeah, it's impossible to get any of those items during the Diggernaut chase. You have to come back later, preferrably when you have the baby Metroid, to get everything you missed.
Quinton Blackburn thanks for that!!! I like this part tbh actually takes fast paced skill and gave me no issue except the fact I was trying to collect some missile upgrades lol I don't get why people are bitching lol
when you look back in the beginning and see why this guy is here you ask yourself "ah shit. now why couldn't I just jump over the giant robot instead of turning it on?" btw this part is really easy
I really hate this part make it to the last part and failed all the time, tried 15 times ending to no avail hopefully they release a patch to slow its movement down.
i think i died around 6 times for the entire chase, got annoyed with the last section before realizing what i was meant to do at the end. It was a very thrilling chase though, so I personally quite liked it.
I walked away for a day and tried again and managed to get past the 3rd part. Had to do the first 2 parts again so don't turn your 3ds off or exit the game unless you want to do the whole thing over. The good this that the boss battle is not directly after you finish this sequence. Haven't gotten to the boss fight yet (not looking forward to it). The way this part is designed just makes it feel like a qte in disguise. It does appear to have some rubber banding. Just some random replies to other peoples points. The where's waldo pixel hunts in Other M did not kill you if you didn't click on the right thing and make you redo every from the previous checkpoint. It hurt the flow of the game just as much as this sequence did. Maybe someone will find a sequence break that will allow you to delay this part of the game, for example allow you to do it after getting the last aeon ability and maybe the gravity suit. I was able to look past some of the flaws Other M had, because I was enjoying the game. I didn't have preconception of who Samus was like other people had this sort of nazi lesbo fantasy of her. So she wasn't Ripley and I've seen enough anime to know that Japan has whiny characters. The whole not able to use powers until Adam says so I was able to get over, just thought of it was a way to get past the fact that Chozo statues would not of made sense either. Was there a better way? Probably. This game has its fair share of one way or locked doors to force you to go in one direction. There are also numerous obstacles and game mechanics in SR that are there to obviously stop sequence breaking. Well placed spikes, bomb jumping prevention devices (vacuums), walls that you aren't able to wall jump on (not the slime ones, those were at least marked as such, but still placed to prevent (make difficult) sequence breaking, numerous door types (at least they were logical instead of just a different color, I can forgive that). Just a final comment, I thought I bought a Metroid game not a Dark Souls game.
I did't find it difficult myself, but you have to consider the fact that a large portion of long-time Metroid fans are getting older. That's not to say that they can't play games anymore, but their reactions are significantly slower and I can definitely understand why sequences like this can be frustrating
My biggest frustration is that it's completely out of pace with everything in the game so far, nothing ever required 1/1000th of quick reflection and precision as in this out of a sudden and then it's gone again. It's a miss in game design for me.
this is the worst shit i ever had in a game ............ the running would be fine with me but the grapple shit is soooo stupid and i have the feeling the boss is rubber banding , every time i get some space he is on my ass again .... a great game almost distroyed in a 4 -5 min sequens ............. this is in a longe time something made me realy angry i had to stop playing this part otherwise i would had trown my 3ds
It honestly sounds like most of you people just suck. The whole thing is challenging, but by no means impossible or unfair. You may end up dying a few times trying to get the lay down of the area, but any issues comes from yourself and not from the game design. It's simple enough to change from morph ball to grappling hook once you get the hang of it and while the level seems like a maze, it's actually pretty straight forward. The game could've been far more cruel. It could've started you back at your most recent save station and forced you to do the whole thing again. The fact that the game gives you several checkpoints to start from and allows you to continue relatively fresh to where you are is something a lot of games wouldn't have done.
I get that its challenging but its not half as hard as some people are making it out to be. There are enough straight runs for you to gain enough distance to have a little thinking time to figure out how you're going to navigate the slightly more complicated parts, which you can do just fine if you're familiar with the controls, have a little intuition, and you're not panicking. For everyone claiming it was a stupid decision to have this section, its not the game's fault you suck.
A massive blemish on an otherwise amazing game, this section was complete ass, forcing you to do a form of trial and error that shouldn't be in Metroid (I.E dying over and over and over again until you memorize the entire route of the section) the first two sections weren't bad and if they ended it there it would've been a fun escape scene but the third section was a massive pain in the ass (likely almost entirely due to the cheap ass rubber banding AI)
@@metroidbl8der448 See, I like the attempt for something different but imo it overstays its welcome, the boss fight was cool but this chase sequence for me just made me dislike that boss (which made it all the better when Samus shoots him in the face without looking) tbh tho had it not been for the rubber band AI I think the chases would've been awesome since you would've been able to get through by skill and legitimately outrunning Diggernaught instead of needing prior knowledge/trial and error.
almost forgot , the people who say the did it on there firest try are liar every one who played this blind wont make it to the end an their first try , this 3 parts run is designed to die atleast ones every part
There is only one part that tricks and traps you. I used spider ball so I never fell for it until my second playthrough. Thus, I beat it on my first try.
Another perfect example of why trial and error is a shitty game mechanic, This part is horrible the first time you play. Why they they thought this was a good idea to put in is beyond me. -_-
It is not shitty. It isnt as hard as you say. The chase part and the Boss battle arent ubeatable, there is a system behind the Diggernaut. I quite love the chase part and the Diggernaut since it is a real challange for once.
I beat this on my first try... you are able to instantly go into morphball and switch to grapple via the touch screen. It was very fast and tight for me, I really don't get why people hate this.
This part of the game ruined my entire enjoyment of the game. Terrible decision to include it. The controls are not tight enough for rapid switching between bomb grapple ball grapple jump bomb grapple. A game that lets you carefully and methodically explore and combat forcing you into a reflex memorization marathon? Bad decision.
I liked it actaully. Of course that chase and the Boss where very hard but not unbeatable. There are things much worse than that. I needed to memorize the fighting style of the Alpha, Gamma, Zeta and Omega Metroid too. And besides that, f the Game only had the Metroids and Arachnus as a Boss then people would have complained too that there werent any new Bosses.
Its pissed me off to no end. The third section where the collapsing blocks and grapple points are is stupid. Yes its heart pounding, only because I don't want to do it again and I kept fing up every time at that point. Almost ruined the game for me. I don't mind a challenge, but the circle pad is imprecise when coming out of morph ball. Took me 17 tries to get past.
3to5andglassy there's a few missile upgrades I'm missing because (especially this one) "spider ball up wall, through narrow spot, you have 3 blocks worth of space to let go, un-morphball-engage screw jump to break screw blocks, otherwise you fall through one-way blocks." and "morphball bomb hop straight up through water, then break surface, then change timing of morphball bomb jump then un-morphball to grab ledge because spikes on either side prevent spiderball from working properly". .. sigh. otherwise great game.
Glad to know I'm not the only person who's gotten frustrated with this segment of the game... I haven't gotten past it yet, and I've tried more than twenty times, by my estimates.
Sean Delaney it didn't ruin the game forever, but it did ruin my enjoyment of it for over a day. I had to put it down and stop. not out of frustration, but disappointment. ok, and frustration. I wasn't even sure I was going to play again until I studied this video like 6 times. and that still takes some of the fun out, to me Metroid has always been about figuring it out for yourself and that moment when you do and everything clicks. this segment took that away.
can swim through lava, can't touch a spinning metal cylinder for a millisecond... broke all metroid rules, the second the game starts to get a super metriod feel, they screw it all up with a mini game
Guess I'm not the only one who hates this sequence. I say hates cause I haven't cleared it. Probably won't. Samus Returns is more un-Metroid than Other M. Metroid was never about instant death mechanics. Between old age and not having 100% feeling in my hands makes this part nigh impossible for me to complete or even want to complete SR. Metroid will join Zelda as series that are dead to me.
So you won't be playing this game forever just because of this segment? Also, how is it un-Metroid? Adam doesn't stop you from doing things in this game, and there's no dialogue. Oh well.
Yes, ONE chase sequence that's not for everyone makes this entire game worse/more unmetroid than a game with a story that's crammed down your throat, has where's waldo segments, non-telegraphed insta-death scenarios, doors that just shut off for no fucking reason other than to force you down a specific linear path, huge emphasis on cinematics without making the game benefit from it, and has the dullest most uninspired map layaout.
Boxmonster Also, let me guess. The reason Zelda is dead to you is blue bokoblins being to “OP”. A word of advice to you, “If you can’t stand the heat, go back to Roblox.”
tl/dr Primes = Got bored. BOTW not feel like Zelda game. Get bored easily. Too many games. Didn't finish any of the Prime games. First one killed Ridley and just never tried to finish it. I was kind of bored and probably another game got released that interested me more. Actually the same w/ 2 & 3. I just bored w/ the Prime games. Didn't rage quit, just real life or a better option was worth spending my time. I even bought the trilogy twice (physical then virtual console), just never got around to playing them. As for Zelda BOTW, it didn't feel like a Zelda game. You got all of your powers early game then went puzzle hunting. No items in dungeons. Honestly I usually stopped playing the Zelda games shortly after getting the last dungeon item and doing heart peace hunting. Nothing motivating me to keep playing. It's not just Nintendo games I have a lot of unfinished and/or barely played games. I got video game A.D.D. I usually looked forward to Nintendo games, they usually kept my attention longer than other games. Still playing SR though, taking my time and not rushing through it.
Say what you will about this, but this shit was heart-pounding. At least you respawn at the end of the last segment if you fuck up
Jacob Garcia I know right?
You don't. you restart the whole chase. Yep, you have to do it all in 1 go
Jep. :-O Pure nightmare material.
I’ve seen people misinterpret the Chozo statue being destroyed to mean Diggernaut had a grudge against the Chozo.
The actual reason it was destroyed is shown when you look at the outline of the tunnel that goes off into the background: The statue was just *in the way*.
It wouldn't be so bad if you could actually outrun the thing. If you get too far ahead it speeds up and is right on your ass again.
It will destroy the wall
Yeah I tried to outrun it but it still was on my ass
If only we had the Time Phase at this moment
At least the next encounter let’s you fight it and destroy it.
I wasn't so scared since the SA-X in metroid fusion
And now, we have the EMMIs!
You'd think he'd be happy. You did free him from the rock. Definitely a pain in the ass boss.
Samus didn't save him. She just woke him up with an electric shock.
Maybe it was grateful... until Samus shoved her charged arm cannon right in its face.
This chase gave me true fear and nightmares my heart was racing when I just got on the ledge
Bambi Wolf, after seeing this, I would be scared too. If I was a kid this thing would've haunted my dreams! LOL
Have you played Metroid Dread? The EMMI's make this chase feel like a friendly game of tag.

Any objections, lady?
This video really helped me through this obnoxious section. You're a life-saver. Thanks!
I just spent maybe 30-40 minutes trying to pass this and jesus christ

I just wish they had a way to at least slow down the robot to give you more of a chance to fix a mistake
Funny I find the actual boss not that hard anymore, still not a fan of the chase scene though lol
Profile picture checks out
Thanks mate! You saved me lots of time.
This boss is a pain in my arse
Everytime I try to use my grappling beam I use rockets
Yeah I finally figured it out and I beat that part yeppie
We need this ported to switch.
Pff what a nightmare this guy was just took about 40 tries
3:24 Close call
Can one come back for the missile and aeion tanks?
I really don't understand why people hated this section. It definitely not the hardest thing this game has to offer(not saying it’s easy, even Ben Stevens died to the first escape segment) and the game gives you all the tools you need to succeed. I'm just gonna chalk all of this up to people not reading Item descriptions( i.e you don't have to press down twice to morph ball, you can just tap the touch screen and you never have to equip the grapple beam since you can just free aim at a grapple point and it will activate the grapple beam) and salty kids that can't handle somewhat high pressure situations in video games.
I dont hate this part
First time I need about 20 trys to complete but I dont hate
Buttlet im a kid and i love this part
Whenever someone's only criticism for a gameplay segment is based off of their own lack of competence, its not a valid criticism to begin with.
Just saying, if you want to optimize the run at all
I'm stuck in the level.
Is there any way to get the tanks before diggernaut crushes them?
I highly doubt it, I couldn't at least XD You can go back to that area though afterwards.
It doesn't crush them
You'd think the area would be entirely dug out afterwards
The chase could be difficult to escape
when you look back in the beginning and see why this guy is here you ask yourself "ah shit. now why couldn't I just jump over the giant robot instead of turning it on?" btw this part is really easy
I really hate this part make it to the last part and failed all the time, tried 15 times ending to no avail hopefully they release a patch to slow its movement down.
I died alot on it as well, you'll get it soon enough keep at it!
I thought I was toast on 3:30
XD same
This shit is giving me anxiety
i think i died around 6 times for the entire chase, got annoyed with the last section before realizing what i was meant to do at the end.
Well, I don't know if I was lucky, seeing all the comments, but I beat it on my first try.
I did't find it difficult myself, but you have to consider the fact that a large portion of long-time Metroid fans are getting older. That's not to say that they can't play games anymore, but their reactions are significantly slower and I can definitely understand why sequences like this can be frustrating
I can understand it too, but it's ridiculous how angry there are. It's a tiny bit of trial and error if you didn't practice the controls, that's it.
Second for me
cmonBruh
one of, if not, THE best sequences in this game.
*This is why I never play metroid games myself*
R u a freaken ninja or something gosh i hate that part
😨😱
My biggest frustration is that it's completely out of pace with everything in the game so far, nothing ever required 1/1000th of quick reflection and precision as in this out of a sudden and then it's gone again. It's a miss in game design for me.
I loved this part, I like to be chased in videogames xD, only took me 2 tries, why are people complaining?, it's not that hard!!
Cachorrito Most gamers seem to be bitches nowadays. For a lack of a better term lol
IMO,
Hard ≠ Bad.
Ok. Phase three was a bitch! Lol.
hated this part, I really don't like trial and error in games.
This part was really easy for me in fact to easy I think they should patch it to make so diggernaut will kill you unless you make frame perfect jumps
please go to hell
Frame perfect , lol thats awesome. I can see many gamers going to the funny farm if that was a thing in this game.
Fuck that idea.
Oh my gawd i hated that part. Took me so long. Im glad i got past it.
Not hard very hard it made my heart beat fast but I past it 😥 I need a break this video very helpful 👍
this is the worst shit i ever had in a game ............ the running would be fine with me but the grapple shit is soooo stupid and i have the feeling the boss is rubber banding , every time i get some space he is on my ass again .... a great game almost distroyed in a 4 -5 min sequens .............
this is in a longe time something made me realy angry i had to stop playing this part otherwise i would had trown my 3ds
This part of the game sucksssss.
Really? I personally found it even more enjoyable than AM2R's Powerplant escape sequence.
I think it provides a fun challenge that should be used more. 😃
@@sams.5608 yes, I understand. It would be a lot more fun if you were actually given the chance to outrun it. I agree. 🙂
almost forgot , the people who say the did it on there firest try are liar every one who played this blind wont make it to the end an their first try , this 3 parts run is designed to die atleast ones every part
You must be young. Your two comments prove it. Also, are you really going to quit the game because of this?
There is only one part that tricks and traps you. I used spider ball so I never fell for it until my second playthrough. Thus, I beat it on my first try.
I mean, it's surprising that some people can beat it on their first try, but like, this isn't Sans from Undertail we're talking about...
Another perfect example of why trial and error is a shitty game mechanic, This part is horrible the first time you play. Why they they thought this was a good idea to put in is beyond me. -_-
Whoever at Nintendo thought this was a good idea should be water boarded, because that's fun and heart-pounding too from what I hear.
This part was great and I only died because I thought there were items to collect. In that case, don't try CupHead XDXD
Ñ
3to5andglassy there's a few missile upgrades I'm missing because (especially this one) "spider ball up wall, through narrow spot, you have 3 blocks worth of space to let go, un-morphball-engage screw jump to break screw blocks, otherwise you fall through one-way blocks."
and "morphball bomb hop straight up through water, then break surface, then change timing of morphball bomb jump then un-morphball to grab ledge because spikes on either side prevent spiderball from working properly".
..
sigh.
otherwise great game.
Man, this was such a bad section of an otherwise good game. Could have been fun, but the troll level design and rubber banding ruin it IMO.
I beat this first try on fusion mode
this isnt hard...just took me few tries the first time then in my second play through in hard mode i just died twice
Yeah freak this game I’m going to burn it to the ground this is the only Metroid game I freakin hate
because you suck at this chasing? well, sucks to be you, this game is great
Yeah it took me so long to get back to and when I did it took me 30 times and I finally figured it out
Oh, but you're cool with the Fusion SA-X and AM2R Powerplant escape sequences?
This game sucks so hard. Worst Metroid.
Lol
Ironic how people admire AM2R's Powerplant escape sequence but hate on this even though IMO this is much better.
Then again, are different opinions really ironic???
can swim through lava, can't touch a spinning metal cylinder for a millisecond... broke all metroid rules, the second the game starts to get a super metriod feel, they screw it all up with a mini game
Diggernaught was also made by the Chozo, so maybe that's why it can one-shot you in this section
Boxmonster Never played Prime 3 then, I suppose. That was a damn good metroid game and it had insta death via phazon corruption
Not hard very hard it made my heart beat fast but I past it 😥 I need a break this video very helpful 👍
