I bought two Aquasky 2 lights shortly after they came out. While I do wish they had a power button and such on the light itself they work great, grow plants and can take a dunking. Good lights!
Thank you for this. Exactly the info I needed & found this just when I needed it. I've been using one for more than 6 months & I can confirm that the lack of a manual button can be annoying... BUT extremely rarely if you are using the auto or pro mode every day. It has only bothered me 2 times, so it's no big deal. I love the light for its ease of use & manageability. I set this thing & forgot about it. However, I am just starting to experiment with aquatic plants. I am a very experienced gardener, but I've always kept that separate from fishkeeping. Some people made it seem so difficult that it turned me off from trying it... until recently. So far, I have some ferns, mosses, anubias & a couple of swords - all of which seem to be thriving with this light. I'm going to change them to your settings & see how that change goes. I'm so glad I found this. I'm going to watch the ultimate guide next. Thank you. Your reviews are always thorough & your advice is usually easy enough for someone with no experience to follow.
Had a 2.0 on the go for the past 5 months... Low tech planted community 200L... its a happy place... Pro mode for me is the key..... Certainly not the last word on lighting... But doing a great job here. Looking forward to the ultimate guide Bentley 👍🏻

Informative and well thought out review Mr. Pascoe. I opted for the 48” Fluval Plant 3.0 a couple months back when it was time for a lighting upgrade mostly because I couldn’t fathom living without a physical on/off button (Call me old school lol.) With that exception, the Aquasky would have completely met my needs. I’m glad you brought that point up during your review as I feel that even though the packaging specifies “app controlled light,” it could be easily overlooked/misinterpreted without careful scrutiny of product specifications/function. Thanks for all you do Bentley. All the details don’t matter to everyone, but each matters to someone. Have a safe and happy holiday weekend to all.
This video made me look at my tanks in a new “light.” I’m using solely the aquasky save for one 3.0 nano and a built in light with a kit tank. My Java fern and anubias are looking great under the aquasky lights and one of my anubias is even about to flower! Love this light for the money savings.
I just purchased this light, this video was perfect and informative. I plan to have anubias and some floating plants. Hoping it'll be enough for the floaters. Thank you so much, I really enjoy your vids!
Hi Bentley, can you help me with a setting/schedule that would work for my 29 gallon. I have anubias and red root floaters. Just a little lost on how to set up lighting for optimal use. Thanks so much!
I have one on my 55. And you got it spot on when you say, it's an A-tier low-light light. It even grows my bacopa salzmanii but it cannot bring out the purple, as expected.
Can confirm that the Aquasky is great with crypts and java fern. The crypts in my mom’s 40 breeder with the Aquasky look so much better than anything I’ve grown lol
In the market for a new light. This video couldn't have come at a better time! I've looked at this light at my local fish store. After seeing this I'm glad I decided to wait. I don't this it would do what I need concerning how much light is in the tank now. I'm sure I have it over powered but my Madagascar lace seems to do fairly well and that's the plant that got me back into fish tanks!
Thank you so much Bently for this review. I've been eyeing this light for some "low light" situation. My goal is to add some slow growing plants (anubias, crypts, etc) in pots to my basic breeding tanks eventually. I'm toying with a simple 5k cheapo led light for now from wally world, but eventually, I think this is my goal is to upgrade to this light after more research. Your video really is helping me on this decision, I appreciate all your videos and testing!
I just purchased one of these lights after my 30 inch NICREW SkyLED broke after 7 days of use... This was after already returning the first NICREW SkyLED which arrived with a cracked casing. I know some people have success with them, but I won't be going for the budget options in future. After all the trouble I've had with NICREW, I'm more than happy to pay extra for superior build quality and 2 years more warranty. I'm sure it will be cheaper in the long run.
Sooooo thorough! I like this guy! I'm sure you've been told you remind people of the late great John Candy? I didn't even know growing aquatic plants was a 'thing'! Amazing stuff
I have a 35 watt aquasky on my 75 gallon. I like it very much. I chose to use a timer instead of the auto feature. The timer allows me to manually turn the light on without using the app.
Thanks for the review. I had the nicrew rgb plus 24/7 for a wee bit but decided to return it due to it's sub-par features. Although you don't use the storm modes, it would have been nice to see them in a demo in your review just so people who would be interested in this light could see what it actually looks like. the nicrew's thunderstorm mode is more of a flashbang to the fish than simulated lighting.
I had this sitting on my 75 along with a Fluval 3.0 for months (Overkill I know). I moved the Aquasky to a 20 long that I was using as a quarantine tank and this thing has been God tier on that 20.
I’ve just bought a fluval roma 200 litre tank, it came with the fluval aquasky 12.5 watt light, is this light any good to grow low light plants or is it worth getting a more powerful light?
I have this light on a 40 breeder and can agree. I don't have anything too demanding, but what's in there is very happy - there's an Indian Fern I'm gonna start charging rent, a solid & spreading grove of crypts, etc. Doesn't hurt to have my luck in purchasing/using it (I was/am a noob, more or less, & bought it cuz i recognized the brand) confirmed by Bentley though. Thanks Bentley :)
Hi Bentley, love your in-depth reviews of the fluval lights. I've currently got a fluval plant 3.0 in my Co2 injected tank. I've got a spare aquasky from my old tank, should I use it with my fluval plant?
I have the aquasky on my 29 gallon tank with Java fern anubias and a decent Amazon sword I have 25% red green 5%blue and 20% white still getting thick algea on older Anubias leaves and it's annoying. Stock 2 angels, cory cats, ottos. Do you have any suggestions

Thank you for the review, dont know about ins/gallons , but i`we got a 250 ltr (100 cm) tank running god, with Rainbows , Glossolepis insisus, Precox and Boesemani, getting a Fluval Aquasky now, , now the lights´ on from 14:00 - 22:00 , can you recommend a setting including sun rise/down
Hi! Thanks for this review. I just purchased an aquasky 2.0 for my 65 gallon tank (36"L x 25"H). I'm not looking to do an entirely planted tank, but wanted a few Java ferns and such, and the rest is artificial. I purchased the one meant for 24"-36" for $170, but it looks really tiny on my tank, and stretched to the limits. Should I have bought the 36"-48"? The CAD price is a bit different than your prices listed, but I guess "costs" are all part of the hobby. My other question that I can't seem to find an answer to is since this is run through an app on my phone through Bluetooth, does the phone have to be in proximity to the tank for the program to run? Or if I'm at work, it will still run since the program was saved? Thanks!
In general with any light you want the fixtures length which is usually shown as its minimum length to be as close to or dead on the widths of your tank. So in this case yes you would have wanted the 36-in to 48 inch model. As for the programming with Bluetooth, your phone doesn't have to stay by it. After you save the program, it will remember everything so long. Is it retains power. If the light loses power when it gets power back, it will assume that it is midnight aka zero hour and start its program from zero hour. However, you have it set up.
Hi Bentley, I bought a used Fluval light that has an old-fashioned control pad, not Bluetooth. I don't know whether it is Fluval plant or Aquasky. Since it doesn't have an on/off button on the light, should I assume it is Aquasky? Another question: for this type of old-fashioned control pad, is there a way to do a 24-hour ramp up and ramp down of the light intensity through the day? Finnex 24/7 allows that with just a remote pad. I wonder if I can do the same for this light.
Bob, I'd had to know which version it is, if it has a remote, you can just set the light and then use a wifi timer, but typically only the app-controlled ones or the plant 2.0's optional controller allow for any ramp up and ramp down.
Is this a decent light for a little bit taller tank? I have a 125 that I have crypts and Anubis’s etc in, low light plants. Or would the plant 3.0 work better?
In the case of a 125, even if you have really low light plants, you still probably want the flexibility in case you decide to add some different plants in the future so I would look at the plant and not the aqua sky. If you start with the aquas guy you might decide like hey, I want to add a couple of these plants and they need more light and then you end up needing to purchase a different light or an additional light and you'll be out spending more money than what you could have done in the first place.
I think it's to low to the top off the tank because it doesn't cover the depth of the tank properly front to back. however if it was higher off the top the light would spread further. and there's actually no extension for that.but it is a very good light otherwise. I do only grow easy category plants. also a 40 breeder tank
My pink flamingos from tissue culture grew surprisingly fast (to me) for about 6 weeks and now have just stayed about the same for the last 5 weeks or so. They still look awesome but maybe I'll look into a Fluval 3.0 plant light.
Thank you! I am going for hornworth, Ludwigia, rotala and similar ones. I am only 9 months into the planted aquarium part of the hobby so still a bit new. I’ll try to look for low light plants. I like stems because I can propagate them easily and give them to friends and such. I had good luck with the stems I mentioned with a very cheap light that cost me 30 bucks here in Korea but once I am in the US I will consider a bigger investment as long it’s worth it. I will watch your planted review again!
Add me to the list: I have one of these simply because local big box pet shop was only having these in stock and it wasn't cheap and wasn't something I ever planned to get. Time and place, it was what I needed when setting up a tank project. I used it for a saltwater, trying to breed Amano shrimp.
I cant find the answer to this question anywhere else, i think you kind of answered it. If i set this up with my phone at my parents, would it store the settings on the light after i go back to my own house, and work without me being there?
What do you think about doubling up with 2 of the aqua sky light for more power? I have one and am now thinking about buying a second one for more light. Just curious of your option on this idea
Thanks for this video and the Ultimate series, I am starting a 240 tank with the Aquasky2, low level requirement plants and no co2. Would you recommend your auto or pro settings for starting it or as in the "Ultimate" series, it is recommended to start with -40% intensity and grow +10% every week or so? As wattage is so low, I do not know if makes sense to reduce it even more. And second question, could you provide a day simulator settings for the Aquasky similar to the one in the Ultimate guide? it is sooo cool I'd like to try but I would not now how the color patterns from the Plant version matches the Aquasky.
Hmmm I'm still on the fence. The hyggers have been doing pretty good for the last few months. I do have a fluval plant 3.0 on another tank, so I am familiar with the app and enjoy using it... I might just have to get one to see how it does. Thanks for the review!
Hmm, I was going to get a new Hygger light, but then I found a good deal on a used Aquasky. The Hygger does look good for a budget light. Timer, dimmable, different light modes. Who knows, maybe I'll swap it out eventually... nah.
Thanks for posting. So....you set it up for your 24 hour program, does the light unit "save" this or do you have to have the phone / tablet connected for it to work? If you turn the phone off will it keep going or stop? Thanks
The light saves the program after you've done everything inside the app. The only thing that can mess with that is if you lose power it will forget what the current time is so the program will assume that once it has power that is zero hour or midnight and begin its program from there.
I’ve gotten used to no power button, and the light is on auto/Pro mode so no issue at all. App has some cool thunderstorm, cloudy look programs that are hardly ever used. Probably only thing I’d change in the app are “+ -“ buttons instead of slider adjustments for auto and pro modes. Manual mode has those, but flawed being that there’s no numerical indicator to show exactly how low or high intensity you’re on.
Hey Bentley. So in a shallow tank this would be like the perfect light? I have 33 long Blackwater with low light crypts thinking this should be perfect. I love the app capabilities with sun up sun down. Set and forget basically. Great review
Alright mate great videos! I’ve just got this light for my 4ft long 96 gallon boesemani/ neon rainbow fish tank would you have any recommendations on what the best setting would be for them with this light? Thanks and keep up the good work 👍
What would you recommend for an african cichlid tank then? I am planning a frontosa tank and want a deep water blue look, and I like the sunrise/set, and lunar functionality. I was thinking the marine sea model but it is pricey just for a blue look.
You're probably better off looking at some of the other light options out there if you want that more blue look. What you would want to find is a light where the whites are something along the lines of. 6500k to. 7500k and have controllable, blue, red, etc. This way you can have the whites and the blues on, but none of the more warm tones so that you're creating that more cool looking blue tinted light
I’m going to use your auto mode settings but I really want to keep 1% blue light on during the night, would you recommend putting the blue light percentage down for the daylight then? And if so what percent would you recommend me putting it on? Thanks Bentley!
I have a question I bought the flex 32 and the 2and aquasky would 2 of them on that tank be high light or should I stick with low light plants. Thanks Bentley Haven't set it up yet because planning to move soon.
@@BentleyPascoe I’ve got the same setup as Mike D. And I would join your bet…blugreen algae fight a while back and now staghorn that I’ve started to fight with your recipe in the help video.

I've been using fluval 2.0 lights on all my tanks, I grow plants just fine, but some tanks I have 3 to 4 of them on my tanks too, I don't use co2 so maybe that's why mine are doing OK too.
If there is a button to control things and it won't connect to the app, that's the aqua sky. 1. If it has to be controlled by the app, that's the aqua sky. 2
Hi I followed your light settings for my 3 foot tank and have started getting black algae any advice? I have Anubis, crypts and indica plants thank you
Hello. I was recently gifted a hardly used Aquasky 2.0 however it did not come with the power supply as my friend lost it in his move. He told me it needs a 1amp power supply? I have a 1.5amp on my current Hygger. Would anyone be able to tell me what the power supply rating is on their unit, and it running a higher output power supply would that damage the light? Also, I have a 20” tall acrylic tank. I have Java, Crypts, lotus.
Big fan of these lights, I have five of them. One is running on a high tech carpeted tank. The tank is only 12" high, and I had to suspend the light in order to get a better spread, but Monte Carlo is growing beautifully for me. I totally agree that this would never work if the tank weren't so shallow. Have another running on a low tech tank full of crypts, Java fern and Bolbitis heudelotii and these low light plants do grow like crazy for me.
RE: Green Light....Aren't the plants going to most utilize the spectra for photosynthesis as opposed to the spectra they reflect???🤔...that being Green??? In other words, your reds & yellow spectra will be utilized by the plants.
If you look into scientific analysis, specifically Michigan State University experiments, green light is not purely reflected, quite a lot of green light is used by plants. Only a relatively small amount of the green light they receive is transmitted through and reflected, the rest is utilized.
Bentley has a master horticulturist something or other... When it comes to plants he knows. Don't take this as rude, just informative in case people don't know.

Great video, no power button is deal breaker for me
My pink flamingos from tissue culture grew surprisingly fast (to me) for about 6 weeks and now have just stayed about the same for the last 5 weeks or so. They still look awesome but maybe I'll look into a Fluval 3.0 plant light.
Thank you! I think i will give this one a try instead of the planted since I am planning to have a cube with shrimp and only stems ^^
If you have very low demand stems that might work, I would generally suggest the plant for stems
Yes as long as it doesn't lose power
@@BentleyPascoe Thank you for replying so fast, appreciate the information 🙂
What do you think about doubling up with 2 of the aqua sky light for more power? I have one and am now thinking about buying a second one for more light. Just curious of your option on this idea
That can work well, a lot of people do it in the flex 32 as an example
240g is quite a bit taller, you'd likely want to start at 80% and increase over time
@@BentleyPascoe my mistake, it is 240L , 120x50x40, about 63 gallons
@@BentleyPascoe Thanks Bentley - much appreciated.
I think this is a great option in shallower tanks
Nailed it. So far loving it on the 33 long. Perfect 👍
Alright mate great videos! I’ve just got this light for my 4ft long 96 gallon boesemani/ neon rainbow fish tank would you have any recommendations on what the best setting would be for them with this light? Thanks and keep up the good work 👍
Depending on height you can use a higher power version of my auto mode setting, just out white up to max and green/red/blue up a similar amount
@@BentleyPascoe are you aware of any others that offer app controllability with sunrise/set/lunar etc?
@@tomfasano9082 not that are cheaper unfortunately.
@@BentleyPascoe that is the problem! Lol thanks man!
I wish this light would work for my 24" 65 gallon cichlid tank!
@@henrytoman5390 if you were looking for a semi natural deeper water look, aka a little dim and not trying to grow plants, it very well could.
I’m going to use your auto mode settings but I really want to keep 1% blue light on during the night, would you recommend putting the blue light percentage down for the daylight then? And if so what percent would you recommend me putting it on? Thanks Bentley!
Depends on height of tank, shallow tanks like 20L do 2-3%, taller tanks 5%
I have a question I bought the flex 32 and the 2and aquasky would 2 of them on that tank be high light or should I stick with low light plants. Thanks Bentley Haven't set it up yet because planning to move soon.
I would gamble yes it's high light on the flex 32
@@BentleyPascoe I’ve got the same setup as Mike D. And I would join your bet…blugreen algae fight a while back and now staghorn that I’ve started to fight with your recipe in the help video.
Very informative
Yeah I'd rather just get a cheap light to grow my low demand plants or just get the Fluval 3.0 which I love already.
In a nutshell, would you recommend this for someone with easy stem plants and dwarf sag..or would you go 3.0?
Depends on tank height, 40B size or shallower, I think you'd be fine with the Aquasky. Taller? Plant 3.0
@Bentley Pascoe what is the crypt with the pink stripe i see at 8:17 in the video? It looks great!
Jacobseni 'pink'
Thank you! Will that do ok in a no CO2 tank, or does it require CO2? Also, thanks for all the great reviews. They are very helpful and informative
Great review. Thank you! The dunkability may be a good selling point. Despite all efforts I have dunked a light or 2. Ugh!
Would the 4ft aquasky be sufficient for a 150 tall 31 inch high tank?
I don't think you'd get sufficient light from 1 Aquasky at that size tank
@@BentleyPascoe the 3.0 would be the better option then?
Setting up a 20 gallon high (was given to me for free otherwise would use a long" for a betta sorority tank with floating plants do you think this would be strong enough?
If the plants are more low demand beyond the floating plants, you should be fine!
Would this light still perform through glass sliding lids Bentley, on a 18" tall 40g,lowtech,no co2, crypts java fern etc?
It should, just bump the power up about 10% where possible on my settings for White, Red and Green
i got a 2.0 with my Fluval Roma 240 and i would prob need 3 of them to light my tank
Can you get a remote for Fluval Aquasky 2.0?
No, it's all app controlled
I've been using fluval 2.0 lights on all my tanks, I grow plants just fine, but some tanks I have 3 to 4 of them on my tanks too, I don't use co2 so maybe that's why mine are doing OK too.
How do you know if you have the aquasky 1 or aquasky 2? Thanks
If there is a button to control things and it won't connect to the app, that's the aqua sky. 1. If it has to be controlled by the app, that's the aqua sky. 2
@@BentleyPascoe Great, thank you :)
I love the light but I've had a really hard time dialing in a great pro mode setting
How do you feel this compares to the finnex stingray 1 on a 10 gallon?
Stingray is similar but less control. Visually Aquasky is more warm tones, and a little more power, but not much.
Hi I followed your light settings for my 3 foot tank and have started getting black algae any advice? I have Anubis, crypts and indica plants thank you
Are you feeding your tank heavily? Do you have any algae crew?
@@BentleyPascoe I have a discus tank and usually only feed them beefheart every one or two days
@@BentleyPascoe I have a bristlenose pleco but he doesn't do a great job sadly
Off hand I'm not sure, you may want to contact Fluval customer support, they might be able to get you a replacement
@@BentleyPascoe I’ve sent them an email, thank you.
Is this the same light that comes with the 32.5 megaflex?
Yes
Big fan of these lights, I have five of them. One is running on a high tech carpeted tank. The tank is only 12" high, and I had to suspend the light in order to get a better spread, but Monte Carlo is growing beautifully for me. I totally agree that this would never work if the tank weren't so shallow. Have another running on a low tech tank full of crypts, Java fern and Bolbitis heudelotii and these low light plants do grow like crazy for me.
Before, during & after pictures?
I put up before and after footage in the video
16inch high tank with dwarf hair grass yay or nay?
Not with the Aquasky
@@BentleyPascoe thank you! Great review!
lol. We are already on our phones with tons of apps anyway. I’ve never had a problem. Set it and forget it. No button needed.
hay mate I thought you would like to know that fluval have just posted your review on their Facebook great promo to your channel
Oh cool, thanks for the heads up!
Awesome
Great light but have one big minus NIGHT BLUE COLOR, don’t know why color is so bad
just use a remote control device to turn the light off and on manually if you really need it.
Aquarium co op light?
Don't have one, I have not been asked to test it.
@@BentleyPascoe Aquarium Co-Op is just an online retailer for Fluval. I don't believe Aquarium Co-Op has their own brand, do they???🤔

Can anyone tell me what the 4th moon option does?
That's the sleep, where there is 0 light. They added it so you can have a small night window of light (like just some blue) then fade out to no light
Thank you
I am old scool i like the yellow ... I still love t5 but almost 50years old so thats a old man haha
Hey speaking of copying light settings from “some crazy youtuber” im going to use your settings see how it works for me lol
Who’s the crazy UA-camr? 😂
man the audio was really low for this one
