Great job on the details. I’m wanting to put tons under my YJ already have the axles after watching your build I’m more ready than ever to get started thank you.
Robert K I appreciate that and I’m glad I could help provide some motivation for your build! Tons and a YJ are a perfect combo although I don’t have tons yet but one day I will lol
Nice work my man. Makes me want to build a YJ now even more. I’ll be tuning in to this build a lot.
Thank you and thank you for the support and tuning into the build. Life has been crazy busy for me lately and unfortunately it’s slowed down work on the YJ but I’ll be back at it and keeping the content coming
You can weld up those 6 holes on top of the frame, they were just there to relive the factory frame mandrel bends.
Thank you for the info, I did end up welding them shut so I’m good to go 👍🏼
Also, this just a suggestion, run 19 Amps and 223 or 246 wire speed. Burns in perfectly, more control of the puddle and very little weld splatter/BB’s. You’ll not even have to use any anti splatter spray or scrape much. Just a suggestion is all. It’s the power and speed I use daily and customers love to see the well laid dimes.
I appreciate the tips, I’ll have to give it the settings a shot and see how they work for me
Motobilt parts have so much beef! Loving this build so far man
Thank you 👍🏻 yeah you can’t beat the quality of Motobilt parts. Not many companies out there are making high quality American made products for the older jeeps anymore
Would you be able to explain how you installed the flush mount led lights in your grille? I really like the look of it! Also the step by step guide was awesome especially since I couldn’t find many videos of this product! Thanks again!
Heath Pickering for the flush mounted lights all I did was find that set on amazon, removed the factory lights, positioned the new ones in place and marked where the mounting holes lined up on the factory mounting bracket (in the grill), drilled the new holes, and bolted them in place. It was actually pretty simple but the holes weren’t perfect so I did the best I could. They’ve been in there for three years no problems so far. Thanks for the feedback and thank you for watching!

Hey man, thanks for the extremely thorough step-by-step. Seriously awesome build! Ya gave me a lot of ideas for when I finally do a complete frame-down and V8 swap on my '92 YJ I picked up this year. Also, much respect for the amount of solo-work ya got into your project. I can totally relate - between the 2 of us alone, I'm sure we probably have enough different sizes and styles of clamps in our collections to stock a Harbor Freight for a year, LMAO! Very nice work dude, keep up the vids! (just subscribed to the channel)
Sean Dugas thank you very much for the kind words and for subscribing 🍻 I’m really glad to hear that the detailed step by steps are enjoyable. I pretty much look at the project and ask my self if I was watching what all would I want to see and just go from there. Working solo does definitely add the extra challenge but you’re right lol even though I could for sure use more clamps. thank you again for watching and your support!

Hi u did a great great great job n details of your job man thanks a lot i breakfast lunch n dinner yj even I own a jk too but my firts jeep is my yj 12 years ago n i keep it is my project, i did a lot work on and i hope get closer to “finished “ we never do that jajjaja , one of the best video i ever see is yours keep yj on n i hope see ur progress on god bless you
I really appreciate the kind words! Thank you very much and you’re absolutely correct they are never finished lol but it’s part of the fun to keep working on it. I’ll be sure to keep posting as much YJ content as I can! Thank you for watching 🍻
Looks awesome! nice work.
Thank you! I’m learning and teaching myself as I go and hopefully giving other people answers and ideas as well. Thanks for watching 🍻

What inch of a stretch did the kit give you? I have an ‘88, and want to stretch it as well as axle swap it. Great vids man. I like your channel. Showing us other, home garage pros, 🤔, how to get it done and while working through our “normal day to day” lives.
🙏🙏👍👍
Thank you for the support and watching the channel 👍🏻 I want to say the kit gave me about a 2-3” stretch. With the front I also used offset perches so that gave me a little more as well. My overall wheel base with the rear and the front kit is right around 104”. Thank you again for the kind words 🍻
@@altered_life awesome man. Keep up the great work. I’m looking forward to all your personal success. I’ll keep tuning in to see what’s next.
On my YJ, I’m looking to do the roll bars, custom bumpers, and a stretch. At some point I want axle swaps and an LS or diesel swap it too.
On my ‘75 Scout II, it’s definitely getting the LS sitting in my garage or diesel if I can find a good deal, as well as a roll cage. I also just had my Miller 220, delivered the other day. With that and my Miller 215, I should be able to do anything in my home shop.
👍👍🙏🙏
Will do and I thank you for the kind words. Lauren and I have a ton of awesome things going on in life that I can’t wait to share on the channel as well. For sure sounds like you have some cool projects of your own, keep me updated on them because they will be rad! With those welders you’ll literally be able to create anything you can dream of haha
I know this video is old but I am wondering do you think all the exposed raw steel at the end of the frame tube and at the bottom which is hidden by the new bumper and spring hangers will get water in those gaps where it can’t be painted or coated and rust behind the welds? Love to hear thoughts on this from someone who has to deal with salt up north! Thanks for the great videos!!!
Good question, that was actually a thought of mine as well when installing the kit. My hope is that the areas that are hidden will be sealed off by the welds and eventually paint but there is still a good chance moisture can get in there. I actually just cut the frame tube out a few days ago working on more custom work on the front end. But my plan is to use a 360° nozzle on a hose to hook to a spray can and feed it inside areas to try and get as much paint in tight places as possible. Then after paint use a oil in the same manner to try and protect it as much as possible. Ultimately it will still eventually start rusting but the hope is the metal is so thick that even after years of internally rusting it’s not enough to weaken the parts. I hope that made a little sense lol 😂 but I appreciate you watching and supporting the channel 🍻🤘🏼
Use weld through primer before it's all put together and you have a better chance of preventing rust
I’m curious to know The benefits of flipping your spring purchase around on the front end.
Does it drive better?
With stock shackles in the front when the axle goes up the axle also moves forward so it creates a bind in the suspension but with the shackles in the back as the axle goes up it also moves backwards making it smoother ride and leaf springs last longer
Doug is correct, the flip allows the axle to move in a more natural movement allowing for better performance and ride in the suspension. Another benefit is approach angle because now the shackle doesn’t hang so far below the front bumper getting caught on rocks and other obstacles out on the trail. Appreciate the view and the support for the channel! Thanks for watching 🤘🏼🍻
@@altered_life thanks for the reply. It’s an awesome build… did you finish the jeep or are you not don yet ?
No problem, always glad to answer questions when I can. Jeep isn’t finished yet, still a ton of work to do but a lot has been completed since this video. I try and post updates as much as I can on the channel so stay tuned to see how it turns out haha
Great video!!
Thank you Tim! We are glad you enjoyed it and appreciate you watching!

What axles are you going to use, and will you be required to move the steering box forward.
Almon Jacob I will be running D44’s from a 2018 JL Rubicon. This kit doesn’t require the steering box to be moved although I am going with full hydro so I will be deleting my steering box. Thanks for watching.

What size lift are you running on the leaf springs and what leaf springs are you running? I’m soa currently & I have everything to stretch the rear and the full width kit for the front
Justin Curtis I actually just recently did a walk around of the Jeep and talked about some of the details about how I have it set up. If you’d like to see that, the video on our channel under the altered YJ playlist. To answer your question though, I’m trying to run OEM height springs as a SOA. I also am using YJ length springs all around so for the rear I moved the frame side spring hanger back to compensate for the stretch. I think OEM springs SOA should net about 4”-4.5” lift. My goal is to try and keep the center of gravity as low as I can. I hope that answer helped but definitely check out my other video on the whole build since I try and show it more in depth. Thanks for watching
Great build! I was debating doing the same front and rear kits after I finish my LS Swap (fab work is almost done). Whats the rough wheelbase going to be?
Thank you!! They are awesome kits. A quick measurement I took the other day it looked to be roughly between 102”-103” but I still have a few more things to do before I can get an exact measurement. Good luck with your build!

I have another question that may seam stupid, the rear axle, are the springs moved out like the front or do you just shave the axles factory mounts and use new saddle mounts and keep the springs in the stock location.
No stupid questions haha that’s how we learn. I ask questions all the time. The rear springs keep their factory width and yep just put a new perch on the axle for the spring to mount to
@@altered_life Thanks, that almost seams too easy!
It almost is, just have to make sure you have your angles right before everything is fully welded in
Next time.. chamfer the bung on the inside of frame to give your weld to fill in
That is a great idea and I don’t know why I didn’t think of that lol the more fabrication experience I get the more I’m learning what to do and what not to do so I appreciate any helpful advice
Nice job 👍
Thank you very much!
Where did you get the longer bolts for the front leaf spring since they are off set with the new bung welded in?
I want to say I went down to fastenal and got them. I’ve sourced hardware from many different places similar to that. Just measured how long I think I need and went bin by bin in a hardware store till I got what I needed lol
Did you use the original yj leaf springs?
Currently yes, for the final set up, I’m still not sure. My goal is to keep it as low as I can and factory leaf springs are my best option. I’m just still unsure how they will hold up to extreme abuse and flex but time will tell hahah
Where did ya get the shirt?
Sure you don’t mean shackle reversal ? Your springs aren’t outboard. As in full width. And your shackle is inverted. Soon as weight is on it will bottom out. For sure
Motobilt sells this kit as a full width conversion kit for 1 ton axles and it’s also a shackle reversal. I’ve flex tested it in the garage how it’s currently set up and I maxed out my engine hoist with zero contact or bottoming out. Seems to be working well but time will tell once I can test it on its own power. Thanks for watching the channel👍🏼🍻
