- Heppenheim (Bergstrasse) / Germany is a town of just around around 26.000 people in southern Hesse. Heppenheim is located on the edge of the Odenwald in a wine producing region.
Currently the town is also known as the hometown of Formula 1 pilot Sebastian Vettel. Heppenheim was first mentioned in 755 and received its town charter in 1318.
We start our walking tour at the town square and explore the historical center with its many timber-framed houses. On this cloudy day we see the St. Peter church first before we walk around the narrow streets in the old and later new part of Heppenheim. There we can also see some part of Heppenheimer Laternenweg which are more than 150 silhouettes by artist Albert Völkl on the street lamps of Heppenheim's old town.
Our tour finishes right where we started - at the market square.

Wow I am from that county. My birth place is just 10 km away. Heppenheim is the capital city of the county, but not the biggest city in the county. Anyway, I didn't knew that it has still this half timbered houses in the city center. But, I was several times in the castle (Starkenburg) at the top of the mountain and of course in the Odenwald (Mountain Range), Auersbacher Schloss (another castle) and Felsenmeer.

Have you gone to giessen? Do you think it’s less busy because of Covid?
I only went through the Giessen train station on a day where I visited Limburg, Weilburg, Wetzlar and Marburg. Then it was too late already to visit Giessen. I may return there once I'm near Frankfurt again.

Germany seems to have so many charming and vibrant small towns unlike my country France that's basically just Paris, the Riviera, a few beach and ski resorts, some medium cities, and the desert.
For Germany I'll post a few more of these smaller towns in Hesse and elsewhere. The Germany list ( www.poptravel.org/videos/categories/germany/ ) is growing. An extensive France trip is still on the list as some parts are better explored on a road trip that hopefully will work out soon. Thanks for watching!

I'll see what works out this summer. There are a few places like Celle and Stade I'd like to visit in Lower Saxony. At the moment nothing is planned. I'm more waiting for some hotel deals that may or may not happen for Germany

Vielen Dank! Also die Schritte hört man schon, wenn auch nicht mehr ganz so laut wie in den 2020'er Videos. Damals bekam ich Beschwerden, dass die Schritte viel zu laut seien.
Inzwischen nutzte ich andere und leisere Schuhe und nehme auch sonst ein externes Mic (Zoom H1n inzwischen). Die Audiodaten werden azukünftig mehr auf -14 LUFS in UA-cam Lautstärke-Standard hochgeladen. Die ersten 500 Videos machte ich auf TV Standard -23 LUFs oder so...und noch ca. 70 davon hochzuladen.
Wenn keine Umgebungsgeräusche im Video sind, hört man durch die Lautstärkanpassung eben schneller Schritte und Keuchen 😤. Also am besten in sonst lauter Umgebung filmen ... 😎

Not Indian but locals. I received one of the very few requests to blur them and did so. Filming in public comes with some responsibility and while it is allowed in general I comply with blur requests that UA-cam now makes rather easy

Yes, they are indeed missing. Rostock may be possible when I get back from a Copenhagen trip that is s planned for later this year. Braunschweig and Gelsenkirchen are a bit out of the way for some of my travel routes. It depends on some hotel deals. For now I'd plan to go to Magdeburg, Quedlinburg and Wernigerode as they could be done on a day trip with longer sunlight... Thanks for watching

Verdammt man, ihr Schweine macht mich krank, sitze seit 8 Jahren im Gefängnis, lese diesen Wunderschönen Titel, freue mich darauf den Walking in Heppenheim zu genießen.... aber wieder einmal wurden die Straßen in denen ich aufwuchs nicht gezeigt, verdammt jeder redet darüber wie schön die Altstadt ist aber keiner darüber wie die Blockstraßen einen ändern können.. ich muss noch weiter 7 Jahre sitzen aber wenn ich erst mal raus bin gehe ich sofort wieder in meine geliebte Gießenerstraße..
