I have previously modified my holocron by adding a few connectors to the main PCB to make disassembly a little easier so it will not look exactly like yours, but I point out the changes I made.

Appreciate the video. Just bought a sith holocron off sbay because I neglected to buy one in the park and it took me all but 12 seconds to learn it refuses to reas crystals. So this video was helpful in learning how to open it up and check for any wiring issues which I was un able to find and will now push through to the seller to get a full refund or replacement. Yippee.

I have a holocron that, when I spin the tetrahedrons at the points, some others don't spin. If I take it apart, is there a way that I can tighten any screws? I want to be able to put it back together for my kid so it works as intended.
yes, each corner does have a screw that connects it to a gear that's used to turn it (or turn the others). and if the problem isn't loose screws, it might be gear misalignment which should be fixable.

Thank you for the videos and follow ups. I've taken my jedi holocron apart, checked the coil ring and RFID antenna's, did the power reset and still can't get it to read my kyber crystal. The first few days everything worked okay, but I just can't get it to read my crystal. I have 2 holocrons and when I try it with the other the crystal works fine. I just can't figure out the problem with this holocron. Any other advice suggestions is greatly appreciated. Thanks

Make sure the holocron is fully charged. If the battery is low then perhaps the antenna isn't strong enough to read the crystal.
Look at the wires that connect the coil to the PCB. They're very thin and delicate. Maybe one of them broke and the needs to be reconnected.
If you can rig it, open the holocron and power it on while holding the crystal directly next to the coil. There will be a small switch the drawer triggers when it's closed. You'll need to trigger it manually (keep it pressed down with one hand while the other holds the crystal). If the holocron reads the crystal, then the problem might be the coil's position relative to the drawer the crystal is place in and you could try adjusting it's position. The coil is held in place with hot glue. Soak a piece of paper towel in IPA (rubbing alcohol) and hold it over the glue for a minute or so and that should come right off. Use tape to test adjustments to the position of the coil. When you find a spot that works, hot glue it in place.
Beyond that I can't think of anything simple to try. Maybe try the trick of turning the jedi holocron into a sith and then see if it's able to read the crystal. I have no reason to think it would behave differently, but it's worth a shot.
Mine stopped reading the crystals. Any advice on how I might be able to fix that? Or what could be causing it?
There is a chance that when you opened it up the thin wires on the RFID reader got snapped. But there are a lot of things that can go wrong taking apart and reassembling electronics, sorry no easy answer.
Are you able to record the Holocron messages? Basically, take a 3.5mm jack or RCA connector and connect it to the speaker pins on the board... from there you can plug it to a female input and record each message as it's been played? Would like to hear the sound quality. Onboard speakers sound like tin.

you could disassemble it and realign the gears or you could try to force it to align, although you may wind up making it worse.

I just bought a sith holocron and the rfid reader doesn’t work. I’ve tried to disassemble it but everything seems to be fine any advice? Thank you.
you might try charging the battery, that may help. do you have more than one kyber crystal? if so, have you tried them all and do any of them work? it's possible for the RFID tag in a kyber cyrstal to go bad, so if a single crystal isn't working, it's possibly the crystal and not the holocron.
if your holocron isn't reading any kyber crystals, e-mail Disney at Merchandise.Guest.Services@DisneyParks.com and tell them about the problem. They may be able to send you a replacement holocron for free.
Hello again! I just got a v1 sith holocron on eBay, and it seems I'm having the same issue.
I've tested multiple crystals, took it apart and connections seem just fine. I'm charging the battery right now, but I feel like that isn't the issue. It functions just fine and lights up red, copper buttons work and the sith speaks to me.

Is there any way to download the existing audio files from the Holocron itself? Like, can the files be extracted and played as a standard music file?
the audio data is encoded in a format called audio32 that is proprietary to SONIX, the company that makes the holocron's microcontroller.
if there was a tool to decode audio32 then the answer would be yes. however i have found no such tool.
Do you think there's a way to change the voice clips played on either of the holocrons?
if i knew what format the audio was encoded with, yes. unfortunately i do not.
Mine isn’t reading any dialogue but is reading the chips, any recommendations?
does it make noises when it's on? in other words, is the speaker working?
and how are you confirming it's reading the crystals? is it changing colors to match the crystal when you insert it?
Ruthsarian yes it is and It Reads and gives dialogue for the crystals but every now and then it doesn’t like it isn’t reading I’m pressing it
there are two circles of copper tape inside the holocron. your fingers need to be right over those circles in order for the holocron to sense them. your holocron might be weak at sensing your fingers and you may need to experiment to find exactly where you need to touch in order for the holocron to work. if you haven't already, try charging the holocron too. maybe its battery is low which is why it's weak at sensing your fingers.

Mine has started to make random noises like out of nowhere it does the hum and it’s happened two times has this happened to anyone else ?
Does this happen even when it's in the off position?
Have you tried charging it? They can behave oddly if their batteries are running low.
Ruthsarian actually it was my custom saber that made that noise either my crystals broke or the sabers broke like half my other crystals don’t work either so idk
@@---ne9ez have you changed the batteries? if you have, remove the battery pack and leave it out for, say, 10 minutes, then plug it back in and see if it still acts up. removing the batteries essentially performs a reset of the microcontroller of the lightsaber. you need to leave it out for a few minutes because there are some capacitors (like tiny batteries) that will still have enough power to keep it running for a few minutes.
Ruthsarian yea it was like flickering and I haven’t changed the batteries so I need to do that but the white crystal turned yellow and my purple turned red ish purple would that be battery related ?
