I write poetry have tried writing songs, but it is very hard thing to do. I have seen Katie Melua, in concert number of times would like to see her again, but need photo ID to get in now. Makes sense really especially these days as security needs tightening up on inside and outside of events. I will have to get one this months. Last time I saw Katie was in Glasgow performing In Winter with Gori Woman's quire, Glaswegians clapping and cheering frantically at the end shouting for more. Although I like all Katie's Albums In Winter maybe the one that sells the most. When I first saw her (long story) I thought maybe she is opera singer as I had never heard her sing before, but I didn't ask.
Writing songs is a whole other discipline. The words have to emote the same feelings as the sound of the music or contradict or other meaningful combinations. This is why writing popular music is so difficult and there is always only a handful of people in any generation who can ever write good or great songs. By far the greatest was of course The Beatles who are still unsurpassed. Their music was staggeringly brilliant and I have spent many yrs studying and learning just how the hell they could write nearly 300 songs in just 8 yrs and most of them are great and around 100 are sublime in composition.
You are lucky to attend her shows. I am in India and it is one of my bucket list events. She is a pure talent, speaks from the heart and most importantly very sincere. Her latest album Album No. 8 is great too. Regards

@@MICKEYISLOWD Paul McCartney was in Liverpool day after I saw Katie there. She was amazing. I wish I would have known before hand Paul would be there the next day. I would have gone to his concert. It was at the Philharmonic Hall 2016 if I remember rightly. Glad you mentioned those things about writing music. I was wondering how come I find it more less impossible. I had no idea the Beatles wrote that many songs. But clearly they were perfectionists.
