Not to disparage the song, it is a damn good song, but it's obviously an older man song not a song meant for a young girl. It's Mike Batt writing for Mike Batt and it being farmed out to the best candidate for a hit in his company of artists.
@@COIcultist Thanks at least for (rarely) acknowledging my authorship of the songs. Yes, these two weren't written "for" her (whereas I wrote 9m Bicycles and many others "for" her), - and yes they are written from "my" heart rather than hers, but songs are supposed to be singable by different artists. I don't see it as being age-limited. They are not "older man" songs. They are just "songs" and the emotions could be those of someone of any age. Actually "Closest Thing: was written for a potential stage character only 23 years old, in 1992. If they were so "old manish", how come so many people think KM wrote therm herself!!! 🙂
@@MikeBattChannel I'm touched that you would comment on something I wrote. I meant "Older Man" in terms of the emotions expressed, not that it would only appeal to older men. I can't have a combative debate about music with you because I know very little. Your toenail clippings will almost certainly have more musical knowledge and appreciation than I have. *"Songs are supposed to be singable by different artists."* I was trying to talk to someone about Bat Out Of Hell By Meatloaf, and I mentioned Todd Rundgren's part in it. Could anyone ever sing, I Saw The Light with even one quarter of the emotion of Rundgren? There have been massive hits where every ounce of the soul of a song has been removed. They turned a coin for the singer and the original writer, but would you want to waste your time listening to them? However old the character was, you were a man of 42 writing the song. I'd venture just about old enough to look at past experiences. Then again, you might have had fantastic maturity for your age. Some are not only gifted with musical abilities but the ability to express, thoughts, desires and emotions that are beyond most of us and beyond their tender years. Leslie Crowther had masses of women say they couldn't tell Stork from butter. I was amazed that they could speak, as surely they must have had their tongues and all sensory organs removed from their mouths to express that inability to differentiate the two products?
Four weeks ago I discovered a new artist: Katie Melua. She doesn't only make nice and inspiring songs, she also produces beautiful video-clips. Go on like that.
I thought you were going to say that you had a great management team to help take care of the baby. lol. In retrospect that would have been a great idea for our kid. Hope to see you soon!!!
Very disappointed there was no mention of Terry Wogan (RIP) who gave her the biggest boost of audience anyone could have possibly had in their early career.
Always loved her music. Unfortunately my spouse doesn't so much. She thinks her music is a bit too slow and sluggish. Luckily she does like her latest album, which is a win for me as well. As a fresh new dad I wish Katie all the best. Hope she can stay making music as long as it makes her happy. Might get lucky and get a signed album of Call of the Search! unfortunately not the 2004 but the new 2023 version. #value lol
Her songs are so rich in meaning. I like to listen to her as a way to heal from losing my wife of 32 years during COVID 4 years ago.
The first time I heard her I cried that's how beautiful a singer she is God bless you Katie fan forever xx
Listening to Katie's music never gets old. Closest Thing to Crazy is still one of my favourite songs ever
And "Better Than a Dream".

Your voice really soothe to me. Keep it up work, Katie. Love from Myanmar
Despite earning so much success, Katie is still grateful for the life she has. She is very modest and equally gracious. I love her songs. Regards
Katie is so good ❤
