A moment of appreciation for the channel , to give a chance even to spectate such greats to have played the game .
Thank you, Nirankush. An honour to share this epic match at Lord's!
One of the best 4th innings century by Gordon Greenidge.
Brutal slaughter.
MALCOLM'S PURE PACE
BOTHAMS ALL - ROUND TALENT
GREENINDGE CONSISTENT AND CLASS
This is a true battle of titans. Perhaps the strongest English side ever vs the vintage top dog West Indies.
Strongest England side ever? Are you having a laugh!
He wasn’t the fastest bowler around but he was so accurate and nearly always made the batsman play it. Ian Botham was my cricket hero growing up. Absolutely brilliant player.
He was a brilliant player but he was never a accurate bowler even when he lost all his pace.
Well he must have been pretty accurate to get all those wickets!!
@@mrkipling2201 well beefy was bloody good, his records are a testimony of that. Not fast by any means, but very accurate. My childhood favorite along with hadlee and so many others. Good old days of exciting cricket.
Golden Summers of the past watching some of the best players of their day.
Malcolm Marshall, Viv Richards and Beefy would all be in my all-time XI.
Also fantastic to hear the tones of Ritchie Benaud who is greatly missed.
Thank you for uploading these wonderful highlights.
What a bowler Marshall was ???
Definitely best of all time contender.
Gower was slaughtered by the press for the declaration. But he really couldn't be faulted: it was just sublime Greenidge, batting like a man possessed, who was responsible for the result. Until the time Greenidge walked into bat for the second time, England had made a match of it.
Must be quite depressing for a team to set what looked like a challenging target, only to be beaten by 9 wickets.
true, greenidge played like possesed man. What an innings 👍👍

That West Indies is deadly🔥🔥
Thanks for sharing. What a remarkable match. Greenidge's 214* is legendary but I hadn't realized what an incredible performance by Botham. Fine innings by Fowler and Lamb. Proper cricket. Props to Larry Gomes - takes some kind of talent to bat at #4 for this team.
Glad you enjoyed it, Rajan.
Larry Gomes has a stadium named after him in Trinidad
Facing the fast bowler without proper helmet was devastating for the player and against the west indies pacer was like fan falling on head when hit by the bouncer
I remember one cricket correspondent's summary of this game included the immortal line, "Botham bowled England into the game on the Saturday - and out of it again on Tuesday."
Thank you for giving us this opportunity to watch legends like Greenidge, Botham, Marshall..... Good old days 👍
One of the best 4th innings knock of all time by the Great Sir Gordon Greenidge
Look at the camaraderie between Ian and Viv after that bouncer!
Somerset team mates at the time.
Very good friends off the field too. I think Viv is godfather to Ian's son.
Would you ever see something like that in baseball the whole team would run to the ground to fight
Thank you very much for this beautiful video. A pulsating match with some great performances.
One of the greatest individual knocks in victorious run-chases in test history. Greenidge was at his imperious best.
Thank you for uploading one of the top performances of one of the greatest cricket teams of all time... It is a true pleasure to watch an evenly matched contest between bat and ball, especially, if the contest involves the legends who uphold the spirit of the game and be a sport....
Thank you. Love watching these classics. Good quality video.
I was just a teen but those were great days- watching cricket for hours on BBC
LCG is a pure gold in making of test cricket
Wonder how challenging it would have been for the umpires to decide whether its a six or four.
LCG and Eden gardens are the two grounds where the unexpected becomes reality.
Also hats off to the crowds those days I rarely found a seat empty in the stands.
Love your efforts LCG hats off again to you as well.
The quality of the square cutting by both teams in this match is brilliant...
Those days we had only Radios to hear the match commentary :)
LCG, may I suggest you supplement these great and nostalgic videos with the relevant scorecards of each innings, else the visuals and commentary are just meaningless without them. I had to do a Google search for the match scorecard to understand which team scored what on which day and how WI won in the end.
Thank you for your feedback - we'll certainly look into adding these into our descriptions! We hope you enjoy the videos?
@@lordscricketground Indeed, these are real treats for cricket lovers. Thank you.
I agree with you.
Botham didn't even appeal for Viv Richards wicket. Ball would have missed 3 leg stumps.
Marshall was a great bowler, the extreme pace was an added extra.
Viv Richards, legend.
Mike gatting, Little fat pudding
Sadly the days when the selectors were hopeless. You only had a couple of chances and you were out.Basically it was a about good technique and that's all that mattered .The mappers that were selected was unbelievable.
Great players. Great memories.
Thanks for uploading these classics,Really enjoy watching these,Love from 🇵🇰
This is cricket at it’s absolute best. Even if the West Indies were far too good for us.
Golden era of west indies - Desmond Haynes & geenidge on the opening & the greatest bowlers like MALCOM MARSHALL & ANTY ROBERTS with the ball
♥️The Golden Era of Real Cricket 🌹🏆
The same England side defeated the Australian side in ashes by 3-1 in England in 1985.These shows how much strong West Indies in those days
top class coverage by camera man
Legendary .
This was the best era of cricket. The best ever cricket & the best ever cricketers.
Greenidge my favourite
Lords Cricket Ground, I wanted to ask why are there no scorecards in this footage. And also, a lot of appreciation from bottom of my heart and all Indians for providing this footage
Did you just take a 4 by 3 picture and stretched it to 16 by 9, making Both look even more beefy?!
Thanks for sharing this . . Appreciate it.
Wow! Thank-you!
Real cricket. Fearsome. Ball travels fast even in slow motion.
Nice to see how competitive England were against this West Indies team -in some tests at least. Gower's declaration was brave and not seen as reckless at the time, just as an honest attempt to win a test match.
Greenidge and Gomes showed how 4th innings batting was done. Also a reminder that Ian Botham had a cracking series in 1984, huge wickets and I think 4 fifties, at least as good as 1981 but against a far better team against whom, one great player on fire could not turn the tide, hard though he did try.
Yeah!
Botham and Greenidge were joint man of the match. That is how good Botham was in this match otherwise 214 NO in less than a day would have easily been solo Man of the match for greenidge
Legendary cricketer ❤
Thanks to the channel
Epic battle!
England had a very strong team ... but West Indies were on another level
Writing comment before watching the video.
Can't wait to see it...byyy
One thing I understood, in old day hell lot of wrong decisions were given by umpires....
Gordon Greenidge looked like he could score an ODI double Ton if he played in this era.
Greenidge held the record scores for all 3 limited over competitions in England and Wales in seventies/ early eighties including a 177 in a 40 over game, before they fielding restrictions/circles. Bet he had a few on the boundary 👍🏿
It is a miracle no one got killed or maimed for life facing such battery of deadly fast bowling without face protection.
What a bouncer.. OMG.. Malcom marshal sir
Great players
Soooper cricket ..all round
12:06 pitched way outside leg.
Appreciate the kind of utility Larry Gomez had.
Those where the good old days
Test cricket at its best.
🇮🇳🇮🇳🇮🇳🇮🇳 First Love Form India
We can’t witness such a balanced battle with ball and bat these days. ICC has tied fast bowler’s hands. It’s all about batting that’s what entertains the crowd and brings money
Wow Stuart Broad's stance are so similar to his father's
Chris broad & stuat broad have similar stance
Can you correct that BROAD spelling?
@@NishitShukla sorry
LCG I have a question for you please don't forget too answer
What kind of a bowler was Bob Willis??????
As I haven't watched him bowling most but his bowling action suggests me that he was a hit the deck bowler similar to Joel garner
Willis was fast and deadly. In 1981 Ashes he took 8 wickets for 40 odd runs in an inning what is now known as Botham’s Ashes. His total of 325 test wickets was highest for England till Botham surpassed him
WI bowlers very dangerous customers indeed.
First love from 🇵🇰🇵🇰🇵🇰🇵🇰
Boy in those days as the ball hit your pad you better pepear to walk
Last series for Bob Willis??
I have not seen Botham bowling like that...It looks like he is fast..
He was very fast alongwith late swing. He had a recurring back issue and his fitness issues robbed him of the pace.

The "blackwash" series of '84. Closest England came to winning a test match vs the powerful Windies that summer
for the sake of trivia, is Mike Gatting the first batsman to be out LBW shouldering arms in both innings of a test match?
That wasn't lbw on Viv ball was going to miss the leg stump
At 17:45 Dessy was run out... I thiink it was done intentionally by Greenidge as Dessy was slow in scoring runs while chasing a huge target with limited overs to be bowled.......Also Botham during a commentary few years back said about this innings "There was virtually no running b/w the wickets when Gordon was batting'....
Des Haynes was way more powerful and fast scorer than Larry Gomes. He was not slow many times he outscored Greenidge
@@boymeetsbush8232 what is he talking about?....Haynes was as attacking as GG....
Plz provide longe highlights min.1 hour this is too short for classic match like this
LBW without playing a shot in both innings; Gatting seems to have a hard head.
I hope you guys realease the match from the grovel test series because Tony Greig deserved that loss
Five Fast Bowlers of West Indies will remain mysterious historical fact ... No other country could produce such brilliant pace batteries....What I think India should improve his Fast Bowling Department in order to generate real pace making India Super Power of Cricket as well...
Faced Marshall a few times. Hard to pick with such a fast arm and low trajectory. Passed way too young. Does anybody have better balance than IVA Richards? I think not. Golden days
larry Gomes was Mr dependable

1:45 speed
Maco hated Chris Broad!! Can't say I blame him!
That was a good or you say Golden period of west indies when the killer bouncers kills players! But nowadays modern shorts made bouncers easy to play
It's should be RICHARDS MASTERPIECE
Why oh why did England not persevere and develop Graeme Fowler 🤦♂️
In that generation sir Ian Botham
Today's generation ben Stokes
In future Sam Curran

I have been watching these greats from West Indies and let me be very precise.... These english guys were too over-rated in those days by their own media and used to keep boasting about themselves.... and when the real test came, courtesy West Indians, these buggers started crying.... Had these bowlers been there today especially against the likes of Tendulkar, Sehwag, Laxman, Ganguly, Yuvraj Singh, these very great bowlers would have got the taste of their own medicine.... In those days it was only Gavaskar, that's why Indian team was quite poor in batting......
Marshall....none like him
Where is the scoreboard lol
Marshall and Garner too fast in the 1st innings. Became mediocre when Botham attacked in Eng's 2nd innings.
England pace bowling too slow in the 2nd innings.
Wi were invincible back then..one of the weakest now
Empires rise and fall. You don't have to rub salt in the wound.

I remember that innings by Greenidge . It was great but very selfish . He had made his double century and instead of allowing Gomes to complete his century he kept on attacking as if to deny Gomes a deserve 100. Very selfish
that's why WI won....it was about WINNING...not individual scores..!!..WINNINGGGGGGG!!..
